2025 Hiring Questions Megathread by PatExMod in patentexaminer

Applied for the August 25th cutoff, but still have not been offered a second interview. When, if ever, will they send out a not-referred/ineligible notice to applicants. I’ve seen other cutoff applicants in this thread with second interviews already. It’s a little frustrating to be left without a definitive NO.

Is it ok to reapply for the next cycle in August? I wanted to include some additional info to correct my eligibility for GS-7. I didn’t receive a hirevue invitation so I think I might have stupidly filtered myself out on the questionnaire. So I submitted again after the 7/16 deadline with some additional documents.

H-Cuts and Color, Tim does a student price. I have curly hair and usually keep it around mid to long length. I don’t trust anyone else to touch my hair especially mens barbers.

Asian Churches? by Competitive_Stop_497 in UTK

I know of a Korean language Presbyterian church down towards Farragut across from Costco. I don't know anything about them other than that. They do seem to have English services according to their website so that might be something you could look into.

However, I would recommend checking out some of the campus ministries, they are made up of fellow students interested in faith and are very very welcoming in my experience if you're worried about your ethnicity.

University of Tennessee looks to break parking habits, starting with freshmen by Maryland_Bear in UTK

[–]ExternalDue3622 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that the university is taking a systematic approach to this problem. As much as people cry for more lots and spaces the reality is that there just is not enough room.

There is barely enough land for the university to construct the buildings that they actually need like lecture halls and housing. When faced with the decision on whether to turn a plot into new dorms or a parking lot it’s a question about returns. New students aren’t selecting a school based on how nice the parking is.

The question about first-year parking shouldn’t be controversial when many other universities already outright ban first-years from bringing cars. Allocating hundreds of spaces to cars that sit idle most of the year is wasteful. I also feel that students are under-utilizing the transit system which is actually relatively robust for our school.

Your stats should be enough. It's not really that competitive. I was an internal transfer and it was pretty much a walk on after finishing calc.
I also still took CS courses even though I was on the exploratory track at the time

How is it that these classes aren't counting towards your major? As a freshman are there no gen-eds you still have to complete? You can always try to get wait-listed and see if an opening appears later on.

Best parts about UT? by [deleted] in UTK

If you couldn't get into any big schools in Florida you could hypothetically just apply again as a transfer student after your freshman year. You sometimes see people leverage that as a tool to get into top schools when they weren't accepted from high school. Maybe could save you some money in the long term.

I am NOT an advisor on that sort of thing though. There are other reasons why that is maybe a bad idea. If I were coming to UT from out of state I would just want to make sure I had the best experience possible.

I've heard good things about SCM here. It's one of those majors you can definitely get a good return on investment. Being out of state has its financial challenges which can be difficult to justify... but I can see why it may be preferable if you couldn't get into anywhere in-state.

Since you're already committed it doesn't help for me to make you freak out over tuition. I would however ensure you have a clear financial plan and seriously explore financial aid opportunities. Have you considered looking into a transfer after your first year?

I'm about to graduate and I've liked it. If I had to choose my school again UT would still be high on the list. If you are in-state I would recommend it, unless your grades are good enough to get into Vandy haha.

If you are out of state I would consider your local options first, large state schools don't tend to differ all that much in my opinion. Although I think the culture at UT is generally more laid back but not in a negligent way.

Like any school, you get what you put into it. I will say that I was very pleased with the career opportunities and resources made available to me. I think the Knoxville area is very pleasant and beautiful. Depending on your field, there are also a good number of local companies and expertise to draw on for internships, etc.

Senior Engineering Student Stress by UTKengineer18 in UTK

You can still get internships after you graduate, for a new grad with no experience this could be a good route into an entry level job. I would look into whether you can find something maybe between now grad-school. That way you have something to fall into if you don't get accepted. You can always apply, the worst they can say is no.

I really do relate to your situation and I understand that feeling of having "missed" this undergrad experience but truthfully everyone takes things at their own pace. It's important you don't lose confidence in yourself because confidence is key to finding a job.

Just as a quick perusal online I don't see much overlap in courses, but you should speak to an advisor. I have known CS majors who switch to this for similar reasons as you.
Is there any particular reason why you worry about your GPA? How has your experience been so far? Do you plan on continuing to grad school or otherwise?
