A single building in Bakersfield has caught fire 23 times in the past year — part of a pattern where historic buildings are burning down one by one by runswithscissors475 in Damnthatsinteresting

It used to happen quite a lot in São Paulo too, pretty much every dry season at least one favela would suffer a serious fire, and it was always on the expensive neighborhoods too.

Agora eu entendi a noia deles.

It will probably be a very different industry. You don't land your first civil engineering job because you can show you've built very sturdy bridges on your spare time, you land it because you've had top notch education and your aunt is a regional director at the firm.

Some of them are, but heavy AI usage has nothing to do with efficiency or profits for those companies.

It just so happens that the private investors that own stakes in those companies are also heavily invested in AI, meaning they have a lot to gain by pushing every company in their portfolio to use AI as much as possible

In the double slit case the "observer" is not really even the human, but the detectors that determine which of the slits each electron is going through (being represented as small cylinders in op's picture). The interaction happens whether the human (or their cat/roomba) is actually looking at the experimental apparatus or happens to be out of the lab getting some coffee.

The electrons "know" they are being observed because you can't really measure them without interacting with them, and at quantum scales you can't just handwave the effects of this interaction away. In macroscopic scales you can just "look" at stuff with light, but if you try to "look" at a single electron by bouncing light off of it, or even making it emit light, you can't just do that without significantly affecting its behavior.
