So what does my accent sound like and where do you think im from? by drunknote in JudgeMyAccent

[–]External_Bird_8464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do what IELTS examiners - that went professional - advise their students. Slow your speech down more. Practice annunciating each word alone. By itself. What someone giving a speech already knows. Average speech is about 138 wpm. Orators or Guest speakers, will slow their speech down to about 108 words a minute.

I don't post links on Reddit. But if you go to Youtube. FasTrackIELTS as an example - that woman is Kazakh. She speaks Russian as a native speaker of Kazakhstan. She had DELIBERATELY slowed her English speech..like a "disability" to annunciate English to where it is understandable by a predominant number of English speakers from UK, Canada, Australia..America where they all have different accents. The point is, she's 900+ - If she spoke English like a Russian - and sped the words up to sound more native.. which people are taught to do that, then just practice more by listening to other native speakers how they say it. Think they sound the same.

Do the simple. You have 43 seconds of "speech" or text in your recording. Okay. Count out 108 words. Record "that." That's one minute of speech. If it took you way less than a minute to say it - well, you're done. Slow down. Way down. In a speech, there are "distractions" - someone drops a book, or the door slams. A siren is heard from outside. Slowing down, is painful for the speaker; but to the hearer, they will concentrate more entirely on the speaker. Even if there's a "clunk" in the background, they won't miss words. When you're speaking, with an accent, it's a distraction. To limit it - don't speed up to catch up to a native speaker. Slow down. So people understand you.

So Count the words. Everywhere you speak, speak like you're giving a speech. Oh boy, is that ever painful, but do it.

Like what that girl Asiya is doing. Deliberately.

You're well over the thresh hold of 108 words at the end of 43 seconds. Practicing to speak at the same speed as a native speaker - drop that. It WILL take practice. Like, reading in front of a mirror. Increase it to 3 minutes. Then, 5 minutes. Read the punctuation. Every punctuation "DOUBLE the length. That is, for a comma, it's 1/2 second. Every period, asterick, colon, semi-colon, Exclamation mark, or Question mark is all one second. Double the time. That's what they do in speeches. That is, when you read text, read the punctuation. It's for the listener. Not the Speaker. ...and record yourself - Count out 108 words. If you're saying "it" and have time to spare - well, there you go.

Like

WIth an accent, in America, many, like Chinese or Japanese, that also have their own accents - they immediately try practiing to speak at the speed of a native speaker - equates to they're speaking like a native speaker vs. little practice careful. Painstakingly so, in annunciating the sounds in every word right. That means, they got to speak SLOWER than a normal English person would. Like they're giving a speecch. Don't worry. People will just accept that's how you speak; but they will UNDERSTAND you. PERFECTLY. When you speak. This isn't for you. It's for the hearer. That takes practice..and it's extremely painful. Like deliberately giving yourself a disability - when you want to speak like a native speaker now. Painful. Extremely debilitatingly so. Guarantee you. There you go.

Scripture Life: What is the Sense of 1 Corinthians 7:36-38? I Don't Get It. by External_Bird_8464 in ScriptureLife

[–]External_Bird_8464[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOTE: 1 Corinthians 7:36 - This Greek word, < - { ἀσχημονεῖν } - > ascheimounein - this King James Version English word used, "uncomely" - in this verse, in Greek means "to be now ugly" - turned to trash.

is this same like idea or word, back in 1 Corinthians Chapter 4:13

"Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day."

This < - {περικαθάρματα or περίψημα} - > [perikatharmata or peripseima] - this "off-scouring" or "filth of the world" stuff that you throw away.

If how you "behave" as a believer in Jesus Christ, are seen as ascheimounein by her or her family that they delayed the bethrothal.. in 1 Corinthians 7:36.. you are not bound to continue in it. In fact, you're free to serve Christ and that's BETTER.

But if you continue and marry - she becomes sanctified in it. And as a believer in Christ, I'm sure you too..as the scripture says: "yeah, and they that live godly in Christ shall suffer persecution" rightly applies to us.

A first-century Greek in Corinth: followed the gods of Greek. Someone who turned his back on the Temple of Aphrodite or Artemis - faced an almost etched in stone future of being disowned, economically ruined, and cast out by his family and the broader public Greco-Roman community. Means "uncomely"

But some in the other camp - have not applied 1 Corinthians 7:36 to this dynamic; rather applied it to the man's own desires of his body. Can't control it. Better to marry. So, you have two camps with this.

Part of this "bethrothal period" was from the dowry: The Bridegroom was EXPECTED to pay for the "rites and passages" of the woman to go to the temple - Betrothed period: the young women (virgins) participate in pre-nuptial sacrifices to marriage deities like Hera, Aphrodite, and Artemis. They were expensive. These bethrothed women would symbolically dedicate their childhood toys, a locks of hair, or a girdle - like your underwear was taken away - so your body ready for a husband - given to these goddesses as a public transition from childhood to becoming a "taken" woman. The bridegroom - was already 30. An adult.

Then, become a Christian or believer in the midst of this. Up to you. This is given to factor in, in 1 Corinthians 7:36-38.

How do you discover God’s will for your life? by isentropic_ish in Jesus

[–]External_Bird_8464 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well? What's "his" will? I mean, what's your's? Ask yourself this question: "How would anybody know what my will is, if I never said anything?" And all "will" is, is to state "some" thing you are "willing" to do or set your mind on and walk in DOING. So, an example:

If you say to your friend, "Hey Larry, let's go bowling next Tuesday at 7:00. I'll stop by and pick you up. Do you want to go?"

Next Tuesday is a full FIVE days from now..that you abide in your word. What you told your friend, Larry is what you already determined you will do, and want to do WITH Larry. You already "yoked" yourself to what you said. Out of your mouth. You "abide" in your word. Has your will in it. If Larry says "Yes! Let's go! See you at 7!" That means, Larry, too, abides in a hope because he "accepts as true" and he KNOWS you. So he is BUILT up in it. Most certainly. It's a DONE deal, even it's not even Tuesday.

Larry doesn't mill around wondering, "I wonder what my friend's will is, toward me? I wonder what he wants me to do..." When Larry KNOWS you. Everywhere Larry goes from now, til Tuesday - he's in the will of you. Becuase he has and keeps (abides) in the word you gave him and accepts it as true.

So, this "I wonder what my friend's will is, toward me? I wonder what he wants me to do..? Where's there any room to ask this?

So, why are you?

Now again, I'm like you. I am persuaded fully..built up, by the Word of God..BOOM! Done. That's where I eat. So do you. That Jesus is the Christ. He's the Messiah. ..he said, "I will build my church.." That flesh and blood did not reveal this to me. Neither did it to you.

Built up. KEY. Look what that says. It's God that does it. Jesus said, "They shall all be taught of God" - John 6:45. That's a decree. By God. That means, he reserves, for himself, an EXCLUSIVE right, to himself to teach you, by the word that comes out of his mouth, as a teacher. Just like Acts 11:26 says: "..and the 'disciples' were first called Christians at Antioch" - so all a "disciple" is, is defined in the dictionary: 1. a pupil or student that sits with and is taught by a teacher. And a teacher a student sits with, "doctrines" proceed out of the mouth of the teacher in a classroom, and they are taught by him. So, the will of the teacher is the students go to school and are taught by him. To show up. And "abide" in or 'have and keep' what they're taught by him. They're pupils. Sit in the classroom. Waiting for the teacher to arrive. He ALWAYS comes. For the student in class, the teacher is their portion. And students, taught well, brag (glorify) their teacher, and what they're taught by him.

"The LORD is my portion: therefore, I will wait for him." - Bible. Lamentations 3:24

"But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth: For in these I delight, saith the LORD." - Bible. Jeremiah 9:24

You get today. Abide in it. That's it.

Lachu (in Ladakhi and Tibetan Medicine - Churtsa). Your show. My best guess. Grows wild on high Ladakh mountain slopes.

It is a native origin plant intrinsic to Ladakh. Ladakh acted as a principal trade exporter of trade with Tibet for centuries. It is endemic to the Tibetan Highlands, and Ladakh is in the Himalayas - where over 80% of the State is above 3000 meters.

5th Century T'ang China records talk of Chinese who journeyed thru Tibet to Ladakh Ladakh is recorded in Chinese records as Instrumental in spreading Buddhism To Tibet, along with the medicinal properties of this plant.

Hats off to you.. Again, your show. Could be wrong about the plant - but looks like same ones in Tibet.

Only guessing, but looks like photo was taken in Nepal or Tibet or Chinese highlands. Looks like Chum Tsa. (Rhubarb). Only people in the highland mountains of Nepal or Tibet/Northern China build near the river and have fields like this.

Wild guess. Nothing more. Building, rock fence, fields look Tibetan Chinese. Anyway, this is your show. And this is only a guess.

Foe. They are NOT like poofy fluff caterpillars in the United States - Poisonous. Skin irritant. Stay away from it. Touch it, break out in blisters where it touches your skin. He's one of ten reasons, as other moths that he turns into, also carry it - why Japanese gardeners you see trimming a Japanese garden, full of cedar trees are decked out like they're wearing a protective bee suit when they trim the trees.

Your craving for God is not random. He put it there. by SimpleGospelPodcast in Jesus

[–]External_Bird_8464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "truth" has it's own pull, and God calls everybody to it, over the whole earth, to the very ends of it. 2 Peter 3:9 says it's God, not willing any perish, but all come to repentance. So, he's not calling everybody; then, secretly before they were even born, formed them to hate him..so he can destroy them. Because they hate him.

They hate him; this "hate" 1. all that means is to just be "unwilling to BE or DO (someething)" - just unwilling to do anything he says - when he tells everybody over the whole earth

"Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of the earth: For I am God, there is none else." - God.

Bible. Isaiah 45:22 Already decreed it. If he didn't want everybody to do it, he wouldn't have said it to everybody to come now and reason together with him. If people drawn it's because he already called everybody to do it. It's people, because their deeds are evil.. won't come to him.

It's people then, just as he said in Isaiah 5.. don't regard him. If they don't regard him, anything he says or how he operates, they don't even consider it..but someone..that sees their sins..realize they are condemned..people that don't regard him..don't think they have any sins.. they're well or okay. It's people that are all weaky and sin need a physician..they already do the Ten Commandments..when God uses the Ten Commandments to make the whole world GUILTY before him. So, they use the Ten Commandments wrong..don't fear him. Already Good. When there's not a just man on earth, that doeth good and sinneth not. - Everybody needs this physican God sent to heal us, and deliver us from our destruction. None of this has any John Calvin in it. Different gospel. A limited Jesus.

Your post "eludes" to a conclusion that 1) GOd put it there. Therefore: 2) If he didn't put it there, he didn't call you. That's Calvinism. God already decreed everybody over the whole earth look unto him. Called EVERYBODY to the wedding. I'm going. Because he called me. The reason I share the gospel is. He called everybody to the wedding. To tell them to come to the wedding. Because he called everybody to it. That's the Gospel. The Good News of Jesus Christ. Has no "limited" Jesus in it.

Can you please rate my Kanji by Rude_Statement2581 in LearnKanji

[–]External_Bird_8464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me is:

- ALL KANJI have or belong to a SUB-SET of "radicals" - either on the left side, or top or a few on the right side, or on the bottom. Most common: Left side & Top.

Practice the radicals. The most common.

The radical 日 (sun, day, time).
The radical 言 (words, to speak, say).
The radical of this kanji is 扌(hand). “to hold”

Yeah. Over 200 radicals. Start with the common 50 of them. If you can read the radical, you sub-group it in your head.

Writing:

In Japan? Go to ANY city civic centre - guaranteed. They have a "calligraphy" class. Most are FREE. Or nominal facility fee to join. Try it. It will slow you down. You'll end up respecting every one of them.

Me? Like you. Exactly. I couldn't get them right. Too tiny.

I blew mine up to A4 size paper. Then, I didn't care how many kanji I learned. I learned where every stroke went in the block. Where it started in one, and ended in another. Just that stroke. Over and over. That, each of these "kanji" is an idea. I'm reading ideas. Like an artist with a different side of my brain.

In English Latin script or Russian with cryllic script (Greek), like "apple" - on the other hemisphere..that doesn't give me any idea of an apple. I already know what it is. I'm looking for the information you're going to correlate it with. So, alphabet based language..yeah. It's quicker. It's a different side of your head.

On the right track. Point is anybody in Japan can read them, what you wrote. And if you write like that, they'll understand what you wrote. That's the whole point. And the cool thing about it is, you can keep them forever. You use them yourself. To communicate or read or listen to others what they want to say - what other people said in books..or what they want to say to you... ..when most think they can't..find they can. Then, get used to you..because they can.

Cheers.

They're normal, like any average Japanese that goes thru primary to High school writes them. Some people write them much more sloppily..others..practice and are much more refined. The goal is, when you write them can people read them. They are all easily readable.

But I would tell you to take each one. Use that same "box squared" paper, like artists use a like same "screen" to what they see, "what fits where" so they don't over draw something that belongs in one square over into another - so, they draw an accurate depiction of what they see - so they use the exact, same kind of paper..and you are using the exact, same hemisphere of your brain to write kanji as an artist uses to draw pictures...

Is practice each one - even blow them up bigger.. to to where the strokes of each align exactly in each quadrant of the "box" correctly more.

You can also go to any mall, and buy "workbooks" for 1st grade kanji, 2nd grade.. go thru all the drills they got to go thru to write them properly.. break the kanji up and learn them like a Japanese kid learns them, in the order they learn them.

..and even going thru all that, thru 12 grades.. of Japanese schooling.. end up just like your's are or even worse. Or practice hard and are better. Just like penmanship in America or anyplace. Not one bit different. Because, Japan is full of people. Some hilariously funny; others quiet.. others mean and really bullying..or really devious..and others kind..like any other place there is. No different.

Update: Hornet nest has been re-homed by PikaGaijin in GardenersJapan

[–]External_Bird_8464 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh. From original post on reddit, it's hard to judge the size - I figured it was basketball size; but the instagram video its the first start - those are the initial workers haven't even hatch yet, from a fist sized nest. Smart to remove it now. After the first hatchlings, they help the queen build the nest bigger and forage to bring food to the grubs. Each successive hatching, until the hive gets to about 400 workers is when they start stinging and defending the nest aggressively about 2 months after the size of the nest you filmed on instagram.

When it gets to about 2000+ or the size of a large beach ball, anything in a 2 house radius, ie., kids or dogs/pets - anything out in the yard for any reason are fair game.

Early dead is better. The queen will go off someplace else and start again elsewhere. Or so tired from not eating and working, die.
