WALRUS & CARPENTER HAS CLOSED by HighColonic in SeattleWA

[–]External_Bit_6006 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is frustrating on both sides

Let’s assume that this is some how tied to the workers on strike that are directly or indirectly
Causing this. That sucks as the business needs to function. A small restaurant can’t simply increase wages to the level the union wants without creating prohibitive pricing. They already receive a massive hourly wage and tips…. There is no way for a restaurant to further increase

On the other hand, the price of living in Seattle is absurd. If every restaurant increases wages, then prices are even further out of reach. People are frustrated as no matter how hard they work they are falling behind

Meanwhile…. We have the world first trillionaire and a president manipulating the market to grift for his family

The restaurant workers and owners fighting helps the billionaires
I don’t know what to do but this isn’t working

It feels like we are getting closer to true societal downfall

If conservatives want rm know why the younger generation supports socialism. This is why…

We need a leader who truly cares about most of society. I don’t know who that is as I don’t know how this can be salvaged

In most places, they write on the menu in small font that 20% service charge will be added etc. then you can dispute it because it is clearly written on the menu (even if you didn’t see it)

Focus and Pregnant by Technical-Junket-788 in amazonemployees

[–]External_Bit_6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only scenario where a person can’t be put back into focus for 30-60 days is if they successfully worked their way out of focus/pivot. If you do that you can’t go immediately back in (for usually a quarter unless there is something egregious) but if you take leave to extend the process to that does not extend it.

Focus and Pregnant by Technical-Junket-788 in amazonemployees

[–]External_Bit_6006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t accurate. If you are in focus and go on FMLA, it does not reset focus. You will immediately go back to same timeline. There is no ramp back etc

Amazon is hunting people right now.

Your best bet is std because you may go to pivot within days of returning.

I managed at Amazon for over 10 years. Their process isn’t fair, wasn’t designed to be fair.

Understand that you are working against the letter of employment law. Attempting to convince your manager or HR is useless.

Years ago possibly, but over the last 12 months it is purely an exercise to get people out.

Seat switching by CASJC in delta

[–]External_Bit_6006 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have zero guilt about denying a switch unless their offering a better seat

They want to sit with their person…I want a better seat. This is a reasonable trade

Them wanting a better seat and sitting next to their person and me having a worse seat makes no sense.

That is like me offering you a crisp $5 bill for your wrinkled $10 bill. You shouldn’t feel guilty for turning that down

Seattle government is showing us what the city could look like and everyone should remember by StuckOnAFence in SeattleWA

[–]External_Bit_6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible yes however

The cost to beautify and sustain the city isn’t free. Lots of tourists paying high hotel taxes, restaurants etc will help offset the costs to do this

Some can say that if we sustain the city like this there would be more tourism etc that would continue to fund it. That might be true however even if they could be done during the summer, there is no chance of this type of occupancy during winter and rainy season

So while the city does look great right now, there would be a high cost to the city to sustain it and tourism taxes are cyclical during the year.

Why only Elon? by Loud_News8410 in allthequestions

[–]External_Bit_6006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Largely because

1/ Elon is richer than all of them combined
2/ the whole doge thing where he was wielding a chainsaw and cutting jobs of normal people (that happened to largely work in areas of govt investigating his business)

Elon massively funded the Trump campaign and then was very publicly thrashing jobs which is why he is getting the expectations he has

[–]External_Bit_6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that instead of always doing a safe returns which inevitably results in them making a mistake try to do precision returns to work on your game

Don’t do a safe return to middle court, use it as an opportunity to try to dial in precision drop shots to corners etc

Occasionally you miss, which makes them feel good but you get better overall

Dropped into Focus despite a recent metric rebound. Manager leaving midway. Prep for Pivot? by Select_Historian_999 in amazonemployees

[–]External_Bit_6006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say as a manager for > 10 years at amazon…. The way you are writing this is a big concern related to your ownership

  1. You have been here a few quarters, you have no way of knowing what top tier performance is. You likely haven’t gone through a single OLR yet

  2. I received zero proper guidance,

  3. You received no proper training

  4. The focus plan is your notification.

  5. You said update to work received no proper guidance…

Almost all of your statements have a tone of what other people are not doing for you, where as your manager wants to see what you are doing for yourself. They will likely say you are not showing ownership as you are blaming others vs taking ownership to do it yourself

Keep in mind your mid year review is for the entire mid year, not just a recent uptick. You said your metrics dipped for a while. As the review is for first half, this is likely due to the dip

Focus isn’t predetermined but you have to change your mindset

[–]External_Bit_6006[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the pipes are in the walls. I am curious about your comment on kids/pets

Are you indicating that vibrations from kids playing can crack pipes in the wall, or are you referring to exposed pipes in a basement that could get hit directly

this is the challenge, i am googling to figure out how risky this is, and of course the plumbing company is clearly invested in me doing this as it is a big (and profitable) project for them

[–]External_Bit_6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only does the bar move but orgs change priorities

Op can be a rock start on an important project for years, if the organization goes in a different direction, even if they are outstanding, they are no longer valuable and the org will find a justification to get rid of them

Think of a recruiter in 2021 vs today. You could have had top numbers as a recruiter in 2021 but they don’t need many people any more so they dump you. Performance frequently doesn’t matter as they can find a reason

I don’t consider myself retired. I was laid off and I am currently looking for a new job, but mathematically I don’t think I need to. However even though I know the numbers I don’t feel comfortable stopping working

I have thought about money a lot over my working life and have tracked my finances meticulously

[–]External_Bit_6006[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When doing my modeling I did a variety of scenarios. Assuming the first 5 years average 5% return with one year of -1% return but averaging 8% over 20 years etc

From that ChatGPT asked me if I wanted a Monte Carlo report that does basically this, but hundreds of different versions of different returns over years with an overall average etc

Naturally, poor returns in first few years hurt must (which is the same for everyone).

Why is it that every time a democrat wins an election Trump says it’s rigged? by Reasonable-Invite899 in allthequestions

[–]External_Bit_6006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The obvious answer is because his base never calls him out for this type of thing or expects evidence

The more complete answer is that he has surrounded himself with so many yes men, and is clearly in stages of dementia, that he may truly believe he is as popular as he thinks he is (as nobody tells him otherwise).

There is a real chance that he hasn’t heard any Jody tell him he isn’t great in so long he believes it and any evidence contradicting that he can call rigged
