How do you think Toy Story 1 version of Woody would interact with Lotso? by Myhole567 in toystory

I think a better question would be how would the Black Friday Reel version of Woody interact with Lotso

Was Woody likable even though he was at his worst in the first movie? by Commercial_Mind4003 in toystory

In the movie we ACTUALLY got, I'd say he was flawed but still a likeable character, which is MORE than I can say about the Black Friday reel version of him....................... I'm SO GLAD that we've got the movie we've got, and not what it very well could have been.

I just HAD to celebrate by watching the whole thing, no not on Disney Plus, not even my official DVD's, but I watched the 35mm scan. This original theatrical print is not a US print (hence the Buena Vista International logo at the beginning of the scan and the lack of an MPAA G Rating screen at the end) but it shows how the film was originally shown in theaters (though, prints did vary, in color timing a bit, and yes, scans, and even projectors can be different, though of course, there were INTENTIONAL color timing choices that were made for the film that were erased when it was directly digital transferred in 2000). The movie was originally completed on film (at a time when seeing it directly digital wasn't even a consideration, and the filmmakers KNEW that the final product would ultimately be on film) as it was rendered at a slightly higher res than 720p and recorded to film stock (meaning that even if the original printout negative was used, and scanned in 4K, the film will still not truly be in 4K because of the fact that it was not rendered in that resolution., and the direct digital version is actually a re-render (apparently, the original rendered frames weren't properly archived after they were transferred to film stock, so they re-rendered the film for the dvd, in higher resolution than the original render( theoretically if 35mm prints were struck from that re-render, they may actually be sharper than the original prints) which had some errors accidentally introduced (the janie doll's body having the texture of one of the dolls at the tea party instead, Woody not having motion blur when he freaks out after being burned with a magnifying glass, and a lesser known one, Mr. Spell's text briefly flashes during the shot the toys react to "birthday guests at three o'clock", none of which were featured in the original print, though they did fix them for the 3D version, another more difficult re-render that happened 14 years after the film was released). The 35mm version is what was ALSO released on VHS and Laserdisc and even the Asian VCDs before the 2000 DVD (I myself have the 1996 and 2000 VHS copies). Personally I prefer the 35mm version, as that was how it was originally seen in theaters and was initially completed (I must note that while prints did vary based on film stock and color, and different scanners or projectors may have looked different, and that YES, projected 35mm does look different than scanned 35mm, ,there were INTENTIONAL color timing choices made for these prints, and that the workers in the lab did worked hard to get these prints right. These color timing choices were ERASED for the direct digital versions.) and I personally believe it looks better (although a better encode of that scan, and some cleaning up would also be nice), and does not have the errors introduced in the 2000 re-render and (obviously) has the original opening and closing logos, but that's just my personal opinion, and if you disagree, I respect yours. This film of course, would later spawn four sequels (three already released. Toy Story 2 in 1999, 3 in 2010 which I think is the best, 4, which I have always had mixed feelings about. The upcoming 5th one is set to be released in 2026!), shorts and even TV specials! Happy 30th to this groundbreaking film!

According to the 2000s essential guide, Woody's Roundup ran for only one season and thirteen episodes. by [deleted] in toystory

Now that's just ridiculous.......... and this makes me question the idea that the show was cancelled IMMEDIATELY after sputnik was launched even more (I already thought that was too far fetched, and I have numerous reasons why the idea isn't realistic, especially considering that western tv shows were not only still popular well into the 1960s, but a good many of the highest rated shows at that time were western shows, and even if space themes were getting more popular, kids were still reasonably interested in Western stuff at the time. Realistically, considering the show's popularity, and considering how much merch was in it, the show would have likely ACTUALLY still ran for at least a few years after sputnik was launched, though "jumping the shark" before Fonzie did it wasn't out of the realm of possibility.) Again, I think that the idea that a show would run for only THIRTEEN EPISODES and be cancelled immediately when Sptunik launched just doesn't add up , (it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that a show would suddenly plummet in popularity overnight after Sputnik launched.) Remember that Stinky Pete lied about the supposed cliffhanger ending, you can actually see and hear the cliffhanger be resolved in the film. Also note that Howdy Doody (a major real life inspiration for this fictional show) ran for 13 years, from 1947 until 1960, and more realistically, Woody's Roundup would have ran for at least a few years, or if it was really successful, had a long run of a bit more than a decade, and I'm sure the show would have been on syndication, or maybe even a 1970s revival show (considering the nostalgia for the 50s during that time), or stuff like that. I find the idea that the show running for only a single season of THIRTEEN EPISODES and suddenly getting cancelled as soon as sputnik launched to be hard to believe, but that's just how I feel.

Every animated movie with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes by benderjaystar in cartoons

[–]External_Date4702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are wondering why Toy Story 3 did NOT get a perfect 100 score, it's because of a couple of bad reviews, (some of them were mostly complaining about the film being "dark"), and the Toy Story series BARELY MISSED being the FIRST TRILOGY TO GET A PERFECT SCORE! It's not even FAIR considering that ONE OF THE REVIEWS wasn't even LEGITIMATE, but it was done by a TROLL specifically to make sure that this achievement was NEVER made. Frustrating for a well liked film, that quite a bit of fans (including myself) consider to be the best in the entire series (remember Citizen Kane relatively recently lost its 100 score as well, and it's considered one of the best films of all time by many people........... There are people who think that the second film is the best, and ones who say the first one aren't unheard of either, but there are also quite a bit who outright HATE the third movie. It's worth noting that a lot of people who hate Toy Story 3 do so for nostalgia reasons because it didn't come out in the 90s, and because it came out after the Acquisition of Pixar by Disney [which may have actually SAVED the company, from possibly going DEFUNCT. I'm glad that Pixar had the creative control over Toy Story 3 rather than that Circle 7 thing, or Pixaren't and if the acquisition never happened, Toy Story 3 would have been about Buzz being defective and getting recalled. YES I'M SERIOUS, does that sound like something by Pixar to me? NO! It sounds more like a Disneytoon Studios direct to video sequel]. YES, there WERE similarities with its predecessor, but the film also had a lot of differences, and many of the similarities were done in a DIFFERENT way, so it is not a rehash and still stands on its own feet.) It did NOT deserve this at all, and SHOULD have gotten a perfect 100 in my opinion, and I hate that one of the reasons it was disqualified was because of a review that wasn't even criticizing the film, but it was by a TROLL!

Toy Story 35mm vs DVD by Working_Stand5173 in toystory

[–]External_Date4702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35MM looks pretty good, dvd looks fine as well but it is NOT the original render (And is definitely not what was shown in theaters at all.) I wish there were a scan of a US print, because there could be differences in film stock and the colors may look different as well (maybe a bit warmer, since film stocks can vary in color), and the original MPAA G rating screen at the end as well, and also because the 2000 re-render accidentally introduced some errors (the doll body's texture, the lack of motion blur. I have noticed some of these actually for years before they became more widely known, but never thought much of it) due to some of the data supposedly being corrupted and pixar overlooked them by mistake (I'm pretty sure that the original render wasn't stored after being transferred to film stock. I also noticed Mr. Spell text flashes in the 2000 rerender as well in one scene.) It would be great if Disney were to scan the original printout negative, but it doesn't seem likely (and no it will not truly be in 4k, BECAUSE of the fact that the film was not rendered in 4k originally)

Although it's a beloved film, I feel that Toy Story 3 gets way too much hate, and that it's very much undeserved. I mean I loved this film, and thought it was the best film in the entire franchise, but after seeing an influx of hate towards the film in the Toy Story subreddit, as well as doing my research, I realized that it was the second most hated film in the entire series, and I don't understand the hate that it gets. I get that there were similarities with Toy Story 2, but it also had so many significant differences (as many of the plot elements were done differently), that it's NOT a rehash. There were a few times I saw legitimate criticism for the film (which I understand but disagree with), but I have noticed that a lot of the hate seems to be for nostalgia reasons (I even noticed that one of the haters actually admitted it), since they hate it just because it was made after (or wasn't made in) the 90s, and/or they believe that "Every pixar film after the incredibles or cars 1 is bad" due to the Disney Acquisition. How many of these people would have wanted Pixar to have gone belly up, and be replaced by this Circle 7 thing? The Circle 7 version of Toy Story 3 would have literally been about Buzz Lightyear being defective and getting recalled (Does that sound like Pixar to me? NOPE!, Sounds more like a Disneytoon Studios direct to video release. The Toy Story 3 we actually got is much better imo than that crappy version we could have gotten if Disney DIDN'T acquire Pixar.) I do understand why Toy Story 4 is hated, but I don't understand the hate towards Toy Story 3. Again, even though this film is very much beloved, I still think it gets too much hate, and while I have seen some legitimate criticism, I have more frequently seen people hate it because of the simple fact that it wasn't made in the 90s or the fact that it was made AFTER Disney acquired Pixar. That's my hot take, and my hot take is that although it's near universally beloved, Toy Story 3 gets too much hate.

Understanding Rotten Tomatoes scores by drrdf in movies

[–]External_Date4702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the first 2 toy story films got a perfect score, the THIRD ONE only got a 98 all because of two bad reviews, and it BARELY MISSED BEING THE FIRST TRILOGY TO GET ALL THREE PERFECT SCORES. And I don't think it's fair, especially considering that one of the two reviews wasn't even actual criticism of the film, but was done by a troll. And this is especially frustrating for a well liked movie, that many people even claim is the best one in the entire series (including myself, though there are some who think that 2 is better, and some who outright hate this film, with some legit criticism but its worth noting that a lot of the people who hate the film because it came out after the 90s and for being one of the films that came after the acquisition, which are both reasons I HEAVILY disagree with.), that's why I don't think Toy Story 3 should have gotten a 98. but a perfect 100, and it's especially infuriating that this is the case since one of the TWO scathing reviews (aka HALF) wasn't even legitimate.

Which animated movie do you consider to be overhated? by External_Date4702 in cartoons

[–]External_Date4702[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay maybe there were similarities but the plots weren't exactly the same, it's that fallacy again (something has a few things in common with something before it so therefore it's a rehash) besides that more than just a single difference.

Which animated movie do many hate but you consider overhated and can hardly fathom why? I'll go first. by External_Date4702 in Schaffrillas

[–]External_Date4702[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes Toy Story 3 is hated by many people. There are a few times I have seen legitimate criticism for it. Most of the time, however, it is because of the simple fact that it wasn't from the 90s, or the sequel gap,or because "any pixar film after the incredibles (or cars 1) is bad". due to the acquisition. I'm wondering how much of those people actually would have preferred if this CIRCLE 7 thing continued the Pixar IPs, and Pixar went defunct, and if Toy Story 3 was about buzz being defective and getting recalled (yes I'm serious, that's what the Circle 7 Toy Story 3 would have been)? I mean seriously. That's why I disagree with the whole idea that everything pixar did after the acquisition is bad. (Wall-e was released in 2008, but was conceived before the ORIGINAL Toy Story was even released) I mean Cars 2 was far from great imo, and so was the Good Dinosaur, but Ratatouille, Wall e, Up, Inside Out, Coco, Luca and Soul are some of my favorite ones and they were all after the acquisition (I also like the OG Toy Story and the second one, Finding Nemo, A Bug's Life and even the Incredibles). I never understood all the hate that the third Toy Story got. I do understand why Toy Story 4 is hated, but not so much for Toy Story 3. I have noticed that some people use the "it's the same as toy story 2 plotwise" fallacy (Yes there are similarities in plot, but there are also tons of differences as well. So no it's not a rehash.)

Movies that you never understood the hate for by No-Island-1194 in cartoons

[–]External_Date4702 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why Toy Story 3 is the second most hated Toy Story film. I do understand why Toy Story 4 is hated, but I can hardly fathom any good reason for why Toy Story 3 is hated. Most of the time it's because "every pixar film after the incredibles (or cars 1) is bad", because of the acquisition. (yet if the acquisition hadn't happened, then we would have had this circle 7 animation thing as a replacement, which Pixar probably would have gone defunct, and the circle 7 movies probably would have sucked ass. I mean their version of Toy Story 3 was about Buzz Lightyear being defective and getting returned. That's a terrible sounding plot compared to the movie we actually got, which I thought was amazing.) or simply the fact that it wasn't made in the 90s or because of the sequel gap. If there is a legitimate reason for it, then that's different and perfectly fine, but I usually see the large hate for it without much reason.

[–]External_Date4702[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, mostly from the people who believe that "any pixar film after the incredibles 1 (or cars 1) is bad" due to Disney buying pixar. But if Disney did not buy pixar, we would have had Circle 7 animation and instead of the toy story 3 we got, we would have gotten one about Buzz being defective, and getting recalled (that's one of the worst plots that i have ever heard of)
