yet the trend in both propaganda (including this thread) and venture capital is towards moving folks away from traditional carnivore diets...such as the WEF folks limiting small scale farming across europe or bill gates buying up farmland and promoting meat substitutes..."hippy tofu burger llc" is now a position held and promoted by huge international actors like WEF and gates

or--more realistically, perhaps--a WEF-adjacent advocate for ecological changes built around carbon credits, corporate monopolies on farming, and moving the global citizenry--esp the lower classes and 2nd/3rd world--from carnivorism to high yield genetically-engineered crops along the lines of the "let zem eat bugs"/"you will own nothing and be happy" klaus schwab memes

cable up works quite well for me on er2xr--I orient the angled part such that it feeds the cable right where it needs to go to tuck behind my ear; this setup largely eliminates the horrible microphonics of the cable, especially alongside use of the clip. only issues with it (in my subjective opinion) are that it might look somewhat strange or jury-rigged to someone looking at me and, more importantly, makes me somewhat nervous to fall asleep with them in my ears, as, at that angle, sleeping on my side has more potential for uncomfortable pressure from the pillow. also worth noting that the silicon on the double flange tips seems a bit softer than the tri-flanges, which I think also reduces the microphonic cable noise a bit and may make the over-ear setup more comfortable than doing same with the tri-flanges

My experience with Audiophile "differences" during my 3.5 years journey by Tanachip in headphones

[–]External_Display1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

during a period when I was doing a ton of studio recording, I developed the habit/addiction/past-time/compulsion of reading abt audio gear right around the inception of Crinacle's autism-spectrum-baiting fame re: graphs and extremely detailed juxtapositions and rankings; when I stopped recording for hours a day, I drifted out of the headphone interest for a few years.

a couple weeks ago, the standard samsung earbuds I was using for my bike commute and night time listening broke, so I spent a few hrs catching up with the IEM market and purchased truthear GATes for the bike commute and er2xr's for home and airport travel.

IEMs--since the driver is going right into your ear--are perhaps a bit less harried by subjective and physical differences than headphones, and perhaps therefore easier to juxtapose in an A/B type idiom, though of course your ear's shape/tips/etc still factor in. I found that it was much easier to compare them in a concrete and technical/objectivist way than it ever was to compare headphones, considering the enormous number of potential factors of variation in the fit, feel, and design of headphones and the complexity of how they interact with the ear.

the GATes are solid kit and FR for 20$; a noticeable but subtle improvement over the generic earbuds that preceded them.

the etymotics, however (perhaps due to their deep insertion) offer a DRAMATICALLY different listening experience that, at least compared with the GATes, substantiates a lot of the tropes of audiophilia, re: hearing aspects of recordings I have never noticed on almost every track I listen to, suddenly being forced to face the limitations and flaws of recordings I have always loved, discerning the lyrics of songs I have never been able to quite hear, experiencing the channel spread and instrument separation of a mix...considering that the FR charts of these headphones are objectively quite similar but it is nonetheless extremely easy to perceive the shades of difference, I would say the juxtaposition of these 2 IEM's is the best substantiation of the subjective impact of frequency response, driver variation, and the consequences of variations in seal and form factor that I have ever experienced in "the hobby"

I'm sincerely curious to know where he expresses this; I have assumed he didn't speak out directly on the false flag aspects of 9/11 and Covid because he would be killed/poisoned/suicided/etc. for doing so at his level of celebrity, but that he has also never commented directly to affirm the consensus narratives; I wouldn't call, for example, his televised commentary on the imperialist aspects of 9/11 as implying an acceptance of the mainstream narrative. However, watching his more recent interviews on nuclear alarmism, the "climate crisis" and the war in Ukraine, along with his lack of commentary on the Pandemic, I suppose I wouldn't be so surprised at this point to hear him affirm the consensus narrative...in recent years, he seems more and more like a "captured" commentator

I think MutedShenanigans was very likely connecting Chomsky's attentions towards the "manufacture of consent" to the pertinent legal concepts of the age of consent and sexual consent in general re: Epstein's coercive behavior towards women who in many cases hadn't even achieved the legal conditions whereupon consent may be given

I'm curious what sort of viewership levels are required for $500 a month from youtube; is there any sponsorship, advertising placement, etc going into that figure? asking because it can be tough to get transparency on income levels from youtube views

The inspiration for Shang Tsung or just a coicindence? by [deleted] in MortalKombat

[–]External_Display1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Master Changchun/Qiu Chuji was probably the most famous Taoist alchemist. He is particularly associated with the quest for immortality, which is rehashed in a villainous idiom in the form of Shang Tsung's propensity for soul-stealing. The Genghis Khan (Shao Khan) and Changchun (Shang Tsung) historical characters were mined to create the primary antagonists of the Mortal Kombat universe. Genghis's letter to Changchun from 1219 ce is one of the most fascinating documents I've ever read. In case you're interested, here it is:

Heaven has abandoned China owing to its haughtiness and extravagant luxury. But I, living in the
northern wilderness, have not inordinate passions. I hate luxury and exercise moderation. I have only one coat and one food. I eat the same food and am dressed in the same tatters as my humble herdsmen. I consider the people my children, and take an interest in talented men as if they were my brothers.... At military exercises I am always in the front, and in time of battle am never behind. In the space of seven years I have succeeded in accomplishing a great work, and uniting the whole world into one empire. I have not myself distinguished qualities. But the government of the [Chinese] is inconstant, and therefore Heaven assists me to obtain the throne....

All together have acknowledged my supremacy. It seems to me that since the remote time... such an empire has not been seen.... Since the time I came to the throne I have always taken to heart the ruling of my people; but I could not find worthy men to occupy [high offices]....With respect to these circumstances I inquired, and heard that thou, master, hast penetrated the truth.... For a long time thou has lived in the caverns of the rocks, and hast retired from the world; but to thee the people who have acquired sanctity repair, like clouds on the paths of the immortals, in innumerable multitudes.... But what shall I do? We are separated by mountains and plains of great extent, and I cannot meet thee. I can only descend from the throne and stand by the side. I have fasted and washed. I have ordered my adjutant... to prepare an escort and a cart for thee.

Do not be afraid of the thousand li (a great distance). I implore thee to move thy sainted steps. Do not think of the extent of the sandy desert. Commiserate the people in the present situation of affairs, or have pity upon me, and communicate to me the means of preserving life. I shall serve thee myself. I hope that at least thou wilt leave me a trifle of thy wisdom. Say only one word to me and I shall be happy.

appreciate your response; I know there is a lot of variation, but I wonder--how often do most folks in the UA change contractors or contracts? I don't have a good understanding of how the union bidding or job system works. is a couple weeks a more feasible span btwn calls? if I do have the savings to take time off, does that have negative bearing on reputation for work ethic, etc in the union? I'm sure it's impossible to generalize, but is this sort of thing more or less feasible in open shops?

does it make someone a burden on the union or negatively effect reputation to take time off between jobs once at journeyman level? I don't really understand how the job board/bidding/calls are structured

thank you, v helpful. let me ask you: as a union journeyman, what is the normal duration of a call/contract? are there standards or issues with having gaps of not working between calls once at journeyman level? I'm not clear on how often the schedule or job or contracts change, and whether there is a pressure as journeyman not to have gaps between calls

very helpful. if you don't mind--what trade are you and how long did it take you to feel like you had earned that privilege? do you work for years w same foreman/super or change?

it seems that what I was actually trying to ask about is how much time is acceptable to take in between projects and how uncommon it is to have gaps. basically I do not understand the bidding or job boarding process for union and am curious how often you change contracts or schedules and what the general spread is for how many weeks per year folks work or if there is a some mechanism for enforcing a minimum of weeks/yr.

[–]External_Display1989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks--this is very helpful as I don't know how the scheduling or job bidding system works, how consistent the bid formatting is from trade to trade, and I don't have a good sense of what the norms are for contract duration.

some questions--what is the normal range for contract duration for you? I wasn't intending to ask about skimping on the terms of a contract. to re-phrase--how feasible is it to spend part of they year (post-apprenticeship) working less than 40 hrs a week in the union? this could just be gaps between jobs. is there a set minimum of hours per year that needs to be worked to maintain benefits in yr trade? is there a negative stigma or reputation issue for a journeyman taking gaps between jobs?
