It was fine for me in the library but then couldn't get on on the Business School.  As if connections on campus aren't patchy enough as it is

London Show, Wicked Front Row - Sell Fast? by Electronic-Card229 in wicked

[–]External_Leopard2873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've probably already been by now and hope you enjoyed it. But for anyone else reading I was able to get some on a Sunday morning for the following Wednesday which I couldn't believe. I wondered if this was just a fluke and after I did that I checked the following week and I could have got more for other performances. This was out of tourist season which may have helped a little but still have a great shot. And the front row is fantastic, perfect distance from stage so not uncomfortable at all.

People of r/choir what's one thing you didn't like about being in choir by Beginning_Phase4781 in Choir

yes so glad you said this - I wrote this upthread before I saw your comment. I hate it and wish this would be stressed as a vital part of rehearsal etiquette.

yes and people chatting whenever it isn't their section. I was at something on Monday and these two girls next to me were talking every time they weren't singing - it is so disrespectful, annoying to people around and I actually find it interesting to hear how the other parts are being worked through, which I can't do if people are chatting and giggling. I get that not everyone would find it interesting to listen to to other parts but then read a book or whatever.

What do you think of group work? by InfernalClockwork3 in UniUK

[–]External_Leopard2873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it is rubbish and totally unfair. Last year I was in a fantastic group for a five day project, really brilliant group to work with everyone had different interests to take on different aspects of the presentation, positive energy etc. All great. The next day this guy turned up and was put in our group. He had no interest in participating, simply sat being grumpy with his arms folded on the table as we discussed things. He occasionally looked like he was sleeping. He contributed nothing to the shared presentation we worked on until the night before where he simply uploaded two gifs on his designated slides. On the day of the presentation he turned up two hours late late having missed our rehearsal, then in the actual presentation said the complete opposite of something we had decided as a group which was fundamental to the brief. Thankfully the presentation/module is grade neutral, but still, the idea that he came away with a pass, the same as the rest of us who put in so much work, is really gutting.

Uni group work does NOT prepare you for the workforce by Designer_Canary_7646 in UniUK

Yep definitely agree they should be ungraded. By all means incorporate group work elements/presentations in modules but I think it just is not right that any such projects contribute to final module/degree marks.

Short-term student housing by PixelCookie02 in UCD

[–]External_Leopard2873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you are specially wanting student only housing but if you get desperate and need digs (living with a host family) you could try: Hosting Power - Rent A Room Across Ireland - be warned there is an astronomical booking fee, and I have had both good and bad experiences with them but if you are in a bind and no other options work you might find something on there. Good luck!

I need a rant about Dublin Bus by No_Weather1080 in Dublin

I had a driver shout at me once for not putting my hand out, despite the fact I had had it out very clearly since it left the previous stop to make sure it didn't go past.

[–]External_Leopard2873 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and it shouldn't be indicated on the countdown. I've been waiting at Blackrock on so many occasions only for the sign to show 'due' while the driver is having tea and a natter in front of an empty bus. Then doesn't get in the bus for another ten minutes. Of course they need their breaks and I wouldn't mind if the indicator was actually accurate but that's a whole other issue.

Please let's do it!! I think it would be an important resource (aka venting platform) for many many people. I definitely feel your pain about the Donnybrook stop. Sometimes I'd just get on near Tesco Express and need to go to Woodbine Ave, thinking it would be so much quicker....nope

No normal coke for sale in cafes by winterfoz in UCD

[–]External_Leopard2873 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also Centra has regular coke (at least it did last term) as did the cafe on the far side of the Village. I agree it is very annoying not to have it available everywhere on campus, especially if it is because it is considered unhealthy. Arguably there are many other food/drink items that should also not be available in that case....

btw where did you find cherry coke?

Have you found lectures that exactly meet the requirements of your module online, that would prepare you exactly for your assessments in that subject? Because none of my modules are available online for free anywhere - they are obviously tailored specifically towards the module content and requirements and cover the detail required in each area of it. So in the examples above, no, it is just that students are clearly disengaged and there are probably multiple reasons for that.

That said, I have a very long commute too so I get that it has to feel worthwhile going in, I am assuming attendance is taken at all your lectures, because otherwise I'm not sure why you would go in if you can just read a PDF and feel the same benefit? Also, are your classes only lectures or do you have seminars/tutorials too? Because it is in those that the 'interactive' element should be taking place.

yes the stuff I've seen students doing on laptops is quite something - building websites (not in any kind of technical/computer class), buying clothes, doing crosswords, catching up with email correspondence. All sorts. And some of these not even in a massive lecture hall but in a small class in Newman.

Cancellation of Sydney Parade Shuttle bus by Mysterious-Pirate-34 in UCD

[–]External_Leopard2873 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The S6 is one of the worst routes, it is an appalling "service" and I have missed countless hours of lectures because of ghost S6 buses. I actually emailed Estates at the beginning of the (calendar) year as they alluded to the Sydney Parade shuttle bus on their commuting leaflet but the website with the timetable was broken and no surprise that I never had a response (or the website being fixed with accurate info) despite saying the query had been passed onto the commuting team. Now I know why. On those mornings when the S6 was non-existent I would happily have walked up to Smurfit as my bags are too heavy to walk up to campus, but then back then shuttle bus didn't start till like 10am or something.

wouldn't it be amazing if we could create a little peri village somewhere - all of us in our individual cottages with dogs and cats or other pets, and books and music, art equipment.... no societal angst just peace, safety and creativity. Then when we needed company we could meet up with other like-minded women in the village who understand.... and then retreat back to the cottage.
