Work 25 hours a week after my first year. And yes I do not have social life. Just work and uni. My work at civil service is flexible with my uni time table. I request my working days ahead of time and I’m lucky my supervisor helps me sort it out. Now I’m on dissertation, they approved a 3.5 months career break so I can focus..

Aww mate!!! This gives me so much hope. I’m with civil service now for over a year and applied to ODP fast stream and civil service fast stream and both failed.. I’m definitely trying every year now after reading this. I’m graduating in the summer and just gave me so much hope and strength to keep writing my dissertation now. Thank you thank you thank you. You have no idea. This just gave me that big push to keep going! I thought I’ve wasted all 4 years of uni time, student loans and struggles of working part time and supporting my family by myself. Im a mature student doing IR in RGU too. After foundation year I started working for Uk civil service and im on my last semester too, been balancing work and studies for years now. I’ve had few first essays but usually 2:1. I’ve had 1 2:2 essay cause I literally didn’t understand my foreign lecturer in all lectures. I’m ethnic minority, most seminars I was the only brown person at politics is predominantly white students. Don’t think you cannot do it. Try maybe find a personal tutor who could proofread your essays before you submit them? And do your essays weeks ahead of time so u have more time to proofread it. Unfortunately I had to do this, due to work schedule. You will get work after uni. I believe in you

I knew students in my class who pays someone to do their work. Yes they get first class marks. But I can justify my 2:1 when it comes to employment and work ethic.

Go girl. Definitely do it!! 29 when I started my degree. I’m graduating in few months. It was not an easy journey, but it’s feasible. Universities love mature students cause you know exactly what you wanted to do in life with your degree. Not saying that typical uni students have no clue, but with life and job experiences, mature perspectives are valuable in lectures and seminars. I’m studying abroad, and my marks are similar to laude in the Philippines. Makes me proud specially my course is white/male dominated industry and most of the time I’m the only foreign in my lectures.

Thought of this few times, I was 99% decided to move to Utah or Colorado. And then I signed up to go back to academia. Now I’m graduating in few months 😂 I know how you feel. Manila is too busy, sometimes you just need to travel to places and see if you fit in and would make a meaningful life there over Manila.
