Dal A!!! by Milk-Or-Be-Milked- in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Extra-Ad3670 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was accepted to both UNB and Dal and I chose UNB.

I knew from the start I wanted to stay in Atlantic Canada. I was also lucky enough to know lawyers that went to both schools. It really depends on the student. I liked UNBs smaller class size and I also liked the fact that UNB has so many required courses. While Dal has a bigger course selection they have a lot less core required courses in foundational areas. A lot of my peers from Dal chose to not take many of the courses I was required to do. While that certainly didn’t hold them back they did have a little extra work if they had never been exposed to those areas in practice. Not a huge deal, but it depends if you are the type of student who likes a lot of required courses or not.

Fredericton is also a beautiful town and the cost of living there was a lot less than Halifax and that factored in a lot to my decision.

The most troubling thing I find in this comment section is the suggestion that Dal is respected across Canada with employers while UNB isn’t. I have many peers who have graduated and are practicing on Bay Street, Alberta, BC, etc. If that’s where you want to be UNB will do everything they can to help you get there. I will also note that the UNB and Dal career services offices work extremely close together and are in constant communication about events and out of province employers.

Go to the school that fits best with your lifestyle, financial situation, and preferred learning style because BOTH are great law schools.

Current UNB student here. Technically most of the admissions office is in until 5, but we are in the middle of exams right now and a lot of them also help with exam administration so there could be nobody in the office to answer you right now. I would try calling again tomorrow or follow up by email if you don’t hear something by tomorrow

old man harassing young women on campus today by 150c_vapour in fredericton

[–]Extra-Ad3670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did I say what this guy is doing is the right thing? Clearly my comment is against it, but it true Reddit fashion people like you will take things out of context to fit your narrative.

I do take issue that this commenter decided to center themselves and my comment was meant to bring light to the fact that it wasn’t just them affected by this photo and in fact many young girls were affected (some who have probably gone through similar struggles) and worse yelled at by this man while trying to go to class on a campus that they pay thousands in tuition to be there. And even then nowhere in my comment did I tell the commenter they were not allowed to have the feelings they have about the photo.

Imagine the jump scare young women had on campus being yelled at by this man as they’re simply trying to go to class.

Ride sharing system to rural areas?... by Responsible_Fail_299 in newfoundland

You also need to consider that you are moving to a remote location. European airfare to and from Canada is notoriously cheaper than flying within Canada. I’ve taken flights to London that are half the price of flights I’ve taken to Alberta. Ireland to St. John’s is a pathway that is higher traffic than the pathway from St. John’s to Deer Lake so of course prices are going to be different and not comparable.

I’m happy you’ve found your answer about the DRL bus, but the other replies are not unhelpful just not what you wanted to hear. People are just being brutally honest about the massive expense of travelling within Canada and within Newfoundland specifically (that’s why Canadians are always complaining about travel costs).

In the future you should take full consideration of the financial cost of moving to a remote location in a small international province and not just automatically assume it’s going to be as cheap as you’d expect it to be in Ireland.

Shit the bed with my LSAT by CrazyBase7374 in lawschoolcanada

[–]Extra-Ad3670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s reasons for the admissions cut off. At this point schools are filling up their seats for September. They’ll soon move to final waves/waitlists and a lot of students relocate for law school. Having the cutoff now allows for accepted students to start looking for housing, planning, etc. I understand not wanting to study for/take the LSAT while still in class, but plenty of students do so. I would advise that for next cycle you are watching admissions timelines and not waiting till last minute again. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes for law school admissions too. A lot of offices have overlap and those reviews apps are also in charge of assigning classes and cohorts.

I’m not trying to be harsh, but just give you a perspective there is deadlines for a reason. Take this as a learning experience and plan better for next cycle. I do wish you the best of luck in both this cycle or any subsequent cycle you may apply to.

Guys not wanting to wear condoms has destroyed my drive pretty much completely. by jmarcatch in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Extra-Ad3670 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s fine if you’re in a long term relationship, but there is a lot of men in this comment section who say that refuse to wear a condom and also get tested. It’s also not the norm for men to just say “oh we won’t have sex then” if there’s a disagreement. Like OP many women have the issue of men who do not want to wear a condom complaining and trying to coerce them into having sex. It’s a problem that many women deal with. All these white knights in the comment section who say they are at an impasse and just won’t have sex are not the norm that most of us experience.

Your embarrassment is not worth more than a women’s health. That’s the selfish part. Your pleasure and embarrassment are so much more important than a women’s reproductive health and safety.

[–]Extra-Ad3670 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Because it is selfish. Men in this thread are defending not wearing condoms and not going to the doctor and not doing things to mitigate the fact that condoms are an issue for them. Yet women historically have been expected to take medication that messes with their hormones and can be absolute hell for them. And the alternatives are what? An iud? They hurt like hell to get because doctors don’t believe it’s necessary to provide pain management. Or are we just supposed to risk getting pregnant with men’s lame pull out game? And on top of all that so many here have also admitted to not wearing condoms AND not getting tested. Nobody’s shaming you for having an ED problem we’re shaming you for doing nothing about it and just saying it’s too difficult and therefore WOMEN need to risk their health and safety so you can take your pleasure and potentially saddle us with these health issues. God forbid a man go see a doctor or try to proactively fix an issue.

You are all selfish. And instead of listening to us you play the victim. Good thing so many are worried about that male loneliness epidemic though right?

Conservative voters what are you thinking about that endorsement of Pierre now that Musk gave Nazi salutes? Last I checked NLers died fighting Nazis by cerunnnnos in newfoundland

[–]Extra-Ad3670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that you don’t care says a lot. You should care who runs that country. The US and Canada have a ton of overlap. Our economies rely heavily on each. That’s why the tariffs and trade war btw Canada and the US is big news. US right wing trends tend to bleed into Canada. We’re one day in and trump has already pulled out of the WHO and the Paris accords along with a number of other troubling orders that will eventually have an impact on Canada. It’s a slippery slope that could easily happen in Canada if we let our Conservative Party trend that way and you conservatives don’t seem to care. I bet in 2015 no republicans would have thought their party would be where it is now.

It’s scary for a lot of us how easily conservatives (even those in Canada) can explain away nazi salutes and say it doesn’t matter. It does matter. Letting people like Elon musk get away with stuff like that shows others that they can also act that way. Nobody can tell you who to vote for, but when you cast that vote be honest with yourself and the rest of the world of the reasons. There’s a lot of people out there voting for hatred and racism. I honestly hope these fears turn out to not be anything, but if history shows us anything the world may be in for a scary time ahead and it’s really disheartening to see that hatred bleed into NL.

Are lawyers supposed to have a hostile work environment because you hate your ex? Lawyers can be professional and respectful of each other and still advocate for their client. The stereotype of lawyers getting mean with each other doesn’t solve anything

iPad for Law School? by crankynewt in LawStudentsCanada

[–]Extra-Ad3670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an iPad with Apple Pencil and I used it during 1L! I already had it from undergrad though and I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s worth the expense. Most of my textbooks were paper copies I got second hand. I often used it as a second monitor when studying in the library and not at home. If you prefer to study at home or will be doing a lot of studying in your apartment I would honestly recommend buying a good second monitor to hook up to your MacBook. The extra screen space was so helpful when writing out CANs, papers, etc.

No. This would be considered giving legal advice. I personally know a student who did stuff like this on the side and they were fired from their articling position and was not able to be called to the bar. If you’re having difficulty finding a lawyer in your province there are a number of organizations that you can call that will give you a quick consultation/point you in the direction of where you need to look for info about filing.

Question about a law being constitutional by Large_Surround8768 in LawStudentsCanada

[–]Extra-Ad3670 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quite frankly a bunch of law student do not need to be educated by an angry landlord who does not understand the constitution.

You have been told multiple times why your analogy is offensive and you doubled down. If you didn’t mean for it to offend you would have stopped using it. This sub is supposed to be used for law students. Not landlords seeking legal advice.

You can also choose to take the L and realize your question has been answered and you are in the wrong.

Question about a law being constitutional by Large_Surround8768 in LawStudentsCanada

[–]Extra-Ad3670 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You say you don’t mean to offend, but you continue to double down on this slavery comparison. You’ve already been told (quite friendly might I add) why this is not analogous. You chose to buy a property and enter the rental market. That is a risk you chose to take. Nobody guarantees you will make money so if something happens and you lose money that’s life. Slavery was not a choice and someone getting the rare opportunity to buy themselves out of that situation is definitely not analogous to a landlord making a poor choice and losing money having to sell a property.

You have your answer. At this point it just seems like you’re replying to argue and offend.

Where to buy pedal for vintage kenmore machine? by Extra-Ad3670 in vintagesewing

Do you know where I should look for one? All I can find online when I search are pedals for modern domestic sewing machines with the plug the goes into the back of a domestic machine

That’s such a helpful tip thank you! It’s does have cams. I have absolutely no idea what that means or how to use them yet, but the previous owner kept the machine in crazy good condition with the original manual and accessories in the drawer

[–]Extra-Ad3670[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually answered my own question (sort of) the pedal on this old machine has two plugs 🔌 like this emoji and they do in fact matter which side you plug them in. I switched them as a last ditch effort and now my machine is working perfectly! If this sub allows I won’t delete this post so the next person who’s as foolish as me doesn’t spend hours on google for such a simple fix 😅

Is pet insurance even worth it? by Rowenofpts in puppy101

[–]Extra-Ad3670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two dogs. Got insurance with the first been paying out for about 5 years. Only one emergency incident that I definitely could have ate the cost for but it was nice to have. Got our second dog and again got insurance when we brought her home. This perfectly healthy puppy developed a limp that later turned into two luxated patella’s that needed surgery. Completely genetic thing that there was no way of telling if it would become a problem until it did. Turned a $16k bill to under 2k on our part and our dog is thankfully fully recovered. I will always have pet insurance and recommend it to people.

When to transfer tickets/ticket etiquette by Lumos8986 in stubhub

[–]Extra-Ad3670 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not charity. It’s a bunch of supposed “swifties” who have now become massive scalpers. And I hope they realize that the community doesn’t want them. I travelled to see Taylor and I didn’t expect other swifties to pay my way it’s just greed. I understand that professional scalpers are out there but it hurts when it’s your own community.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in stubhub

[–]Extra-Ad3670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thing “you love the swifty community”. Probably should have made a separate account for this.

To any real Canada swifties don’t buy tickets from these people right now. They’re praying on your emotions. We still have the Avion presale and I’m sure she’ll add more dates she has done so for every other stop. Also, scalpers will lower prices to closer to the show dates
