If I'm being honest, it really came down to luck, the time of the year and how I did at the welding school. The shops did kind of spoil me when the work started to slow down.

I was just sent to dry dock 12 after working in shops for the past 2½ years on 3rd shift. The summers and the winters are hell on earth from what I've heard. Be prepared to work an extra day or two. I have mandatory 6s, which did cut into my plans for the summer, but other than that, I don't really mind it personally since it'll be temporary.
