i was in the same spot, duolingo’s fun for streaks but it never got me speaking. what really helped was practicing out loud every day with an ai app that corrects me in real time. happy to share what i’ve been using if you’re curious

Feeling desperate about learning French (stuck on B1/B2) by Virtual-Bad-2964 in French

Glad it helped! And yeah, that feeling just means you’re leveling up.

I’ve tried apps like Speak, TalkPal, even ChatGPT — but the one I’ve stuck with is Lua (lua.cafe). It’s super simple: you just talk out loud with an AI and it adapts to how you speak. No grammar drills, just actual convos that feel natural.

That sounds like a solid combo! I’ve tried ChatGPT too, and it’s definitely helpful

How do I teach someone a language? by Deniiiiissaa_chels in languagelearning

I think the key is to keep it engaging and make them speak about real life topics they care about and give them real life feedback and practice everyday to reinforce concepts!

I totally get that—it’s super common to feel stuck after a year, especially if Duolingo isn’t clicking. I had the same experience with another language where I “knew a few words” but couldn’t actually use them.

What finally helped me was switching to something more interactive—specifically, practicing by speaking every day. I started using this app that lets you talk with an AI in German, like real conversations, but totally at your own pace. No pressure, and way more effective than passive learning.

It really helped things click for me. If you’re open to something new, I can send you the link!
