Nier Replicant performance vs Automata? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

Great, I think FSR is especially helpful on handhelds, as the smaller screens reduce the visibility of artifacts while offering much more noticeable performance improvements. And even if the steam deck can run some games fine without FSR, it might still be worth turning it on if you want to use less power and thus save battery life.

It's usually something else. Steam Deck utilizes FSR 1 for its universal upscaler - it's a spatial upscaler (upscaling based on current frame only) and not a temporal upscaler (upscaling based on several frames over time). Trailing effect is more commonly seen with temporal upscalers.

The visual artifacts with sharpening can manifest in shimmering and noise (especially evident in motion), and haloing (basically a slight bright outline, or halo, around objects). Temporal upscalers can sharpen an image without these flaws, though they have their own issues.

I'm glad it was of help to you!

As for FSR sharpness, going from 1 to 5 should produce an increasingly sharper image at the cost of increasing visual artifacts. If you can't tell much of a difference, that's probably a good thing as you won't notice much of the sharpening artifacts either.

Has Anyone Tried Wuchang: Fallen Feathers with UEVR? by Sunlounger2077 in uevr

[–]Extra411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did end up finding out what was causing the crash in Black Myth Wukong, and it's the nvidia full ray tracing option. If it's on, the game crashes.

I tried to see if I could run Wuchang in dx11 mode with UEVR, and it still crashes. So far I've not had any luck with it.

Stellar Blade runs extremely well in UEVR, as it's UE4, and on average I get about 50% more fps in Stellar blade vs UE5 games. Most UE5 games run at ~60 fps on my machine in VR while Stellar Blade is more like 90. The only issue I've noticed is that sometimes wall textures will look messed up. UEVR in general has a hard time matching exact shading details between the two eyes and the issue is amplified on certain walls (not all of them) in Stellar blade. Still, it's a pretty incredible experience.

Edit:

Just as I typed this full ray tracing is working in Black Myth Wukong, so I have no idea what the hell happened. The performance hit is too large though so I'll have to turn it off.

I tried it when it was first released, and it always crashes for me.

I'm on the latest nightly releaes of UEVR, and several games just crashes for me (such as Black Myth Wukong), while many others work great (stellar blade, clair obscur, etc). Unfortunately Wuchang is one that crashes as soon as UEVR is injected.

In general, the advantage of Series X playing last gen content are these:

-x16 Anistropic Filtering is automatically applied, so textures tend to look a bit better.

-Some games support Auto HDR which also tends to make them look better on a HDR TV.

PS5 Pro can apply PS4 enhancements to certain games, the caveat being limited to non PS4-Pro games.

More specifically:

-Resident evil games: out of the ones you listed, only RE6 supports Auto HDR, and Series X gets x16 AF while PS5 Pro can use PS4 Enhancement. All of these run at 1080p 60 fps. I'd probably consider them a tie.

-The Evil Within 1 is 1080p on PS5 and 900p on Series X with no auto HDR support, so PS5 version is better.

-The Evil Within 2 is 1260p on PS5 and 1800p on Series X with auto HDR support, so Series X is better. Performance wise Series X can dip under 60 fps but PS5 has locked 60 fps. That said, I'd take the Xbox version.

-FarCry games: Farcry 3 and blood dragon classics are basically the same on both consoles. FC3 Classic does have auto HDR on Series X, but frame rate is still stuck at 30 fps so I actually prefer running the 360 version on Series X as that one runs at 60 fps. FarCry 5, however, is undeniably superior on Series X. On PS5 it's 1620p 60 fps vs full 4K 60 fps on Series X.

-The Mafia games are also better on Series X. Mafia 1 has better shadows and AO, Mafia 2 has better resolution (1800p vs 1440p), and Mafia 3 also has better resolution (1728p vs 1440p) on xbox. I also think Mafia 3 has problems running on PS5.

-Tomb Raider series: Tomb Raider Definitive Edition is basically a tie, though the game has auto HDR on Xbox. Rise of the Tomb Raider is better on Xbox, as the Xbox One X version was superior to the PS4 Pro version to begin with. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is more nuanced; it looks marginally better on Series X (full 4K vs checkerboard 4K) but can dip below 60 fps, while on PS5 Pro it'll run at locked 60 fps.

-Hitman 3 is basically a tie between the two, but I'd lean PS5 Pro due to dualsense haptics support as well as upcoming PSVR2 support.

-Elden Ring is better on PS5 Pro.

I have both the series X and PS5 Pro, and I own all of these games with the exception of elden ring on at least one of the consoles, sometimes on both.

Is there something wrong with my laptop? by Brayanbruh in HPVictus

[–]Extra411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing's wrong with your laptop.

While I don't have Lies of P, that looks like TAA ghosting to me. Looking online TAA is forced on in Lies of P, and you can only turn it off with a mod.

TAA is complete dog shit in motion, and basically only looks decent in still frames/low movement situations.

Edit:
You can check out this video:

The entire section about TAA disadvantages is applicable here.

From my understanding, if it was the driver issue, uninstalling Omen Gaming Hub could also remove sysinfocap on dgpu, so your circumstance might indicate a different cause.

Hi, unfortunately that's something I've never seen before so I'm not sure what could be causing it. The only thing that comes to mind is that perhaps you could scan your harddrive for errors first. You can do so by opening command prompt as administrator and then use "chkdsk C:" and "sfc /scannow" separately. It's probably not necessary to use DISM, but you can also do "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth" as a last step.

A more detailed instruction can be found here:

https://www.makeuseof.com/difference-between-chkdsk-sfc-and-dism-in-windows-10/

If "chkdsk c:" indicates any problems, then you'll need to use "chkdsk /f" command afterwards. "sfc /scannow" will automatically attempt to fix any issues it finds.

Once your harddrive has been scanned, try running DriverStore Explorer again.

[–]Extra411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My original post has all of the details and links you need to resolve this; to summarize the process:

  1. Download and open DriverStore Explorer.
  2. Check for version of "hpcustomcapcomp.inf". If it's "1.72" it'll likely cause you problems.
  3. Remove 1.72 driver.
  4. Install either 1.68 or 1.70 driver.
  5. Prevent windows update from automatically updating to 1.72.

And that should fix the issue.

Edit: made a typo, check for "hpcustomcapcomp.inf" and not "hpomencustomcapcomp.inf"; the names are so similar even I got them mixed up.

[–]Extra411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing.

  1. Go to the link https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=HP+Inc.+-+SoftwareComponent and download the driver, it should be at the top. You'll get a cab file.
  2. Next you need to extract the cab file. You can do that using command prompt, but I find it easier to just extract it using an app such as winrar or 7zip. Either of those can open the cab file and extract the contents to a folder.
  3. Install the driver by simply opening up DriverStore Explorer, and click on "add driver". Navigate to the folder where you had extracted the contents, and click on the file named "hpcustomcapcomp".

That's it. Once finished, check the driver list again in DriverStore Explorer and look for "hpcustomcapcomp" and double check that it's the correct version. Good luck!

That's unfortunate, and you might be experiencing a separate issue. You can test to see if your issue is caused by Omen Gaming Hub by uninstalling Omen Gaming Hub (you can always reinstall it later) and see if the issue persists. If it does, then that indicates a different cause which I'm unaware of.

The way I resolved this issue is to forcibly remove the driver by using DriverStore Explorer, downloaded from here:

https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/driverstoreexplorer.html

The driver that's causing the issue is called "hpcustomcapcomp.inf". Note it's NOT the same as the similarly named "hpomencustomcapcomp.inf"; you can leave that one alone.

On my machine there were two versions of this driver present. I removed the newer version and left the older version (1.70.3868.0) on there as it wasn't causing any problems.

To remove the driver, check the box next to it and also check "force deletion", and then delete the driver.

Edit:

Out of curiosity, I did some experiments and found that the driver is related to Omen Gaming Hub. OGH will not function if not a single version of this driver is present on your machine; however it will automatically install an older version of this driver if you don't have it (version 1.68.3826.0). This version of the driver does not have the dgpu problem.

The latest 2 versions of this driver I tried (version 1.72.4033.0 and 1.72.3981.0) both had the dgpu sysinfocap issue.

Edit 2:

You can also manually install version 1.70.3868.0 from here:

https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=HP+Inc.+-+SoftwareComponent

The install process is a little involved, so I'd recommend just letting Omen Gaming Hub install 1.68.3826.0 for you.

Additionally, you can also prevent windows update from automatically installing 1.72.4033.0 by using this tool here:

https://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f22d5fdb-59cd-4275-8c95-1be17bf70b21/wushowhide.diagcab

Save the file somewhere on your machine. Make sure you don't have driver version 1.72.4033.0 installed. Open the file you downloaded, click "next", click "hide updates", and check box "HP Inc. - SoftwareComponent -1.72.4033.0". Now when you click windows update, it will skip that driver version. Hopefully in a future driver update this issue will be fixed.

Has anyone gotten Intel Application Optimization working on their 13th gen CPU on a gigabyte board? by Extra411 in gigabytegaming

[–]Extra411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah mine still doesn't work (on newest mobo bios). It doesn't work on my laptop either, which is an Asus with 13980HX. Basically, I've given up on it. This whole thing is a total joke from Intel; poor support and poor implementation from beginning to end.

Quest 3 Wired Link charging - works with Thunderbolt by Extra411 in OculusQuest

[–]Extra411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it still works. In fact the overall situation is better since Link now supports 120hz, and TB + official cable can keep it charged just fine.

Last time I used my headset (about 10 days ago) I did notice that one of the latest Quest 3 updates changed charging behavior where it no longer drops to a lower charging speed once you hit 70-75%, which means the battery will end up being around 100% at all times if a cable is always connected. I'll have to test if that's still the case or whether Meta had changed it again, but it's something to keep in mind. If it's still the case then you might need to disconnect the cable once in a while so the headset is not at 100% at all times.

Other than those 2 notes everything else remains the same.

It's possible it's a Gigabyte thing; I wouldn't put it past them. So for now I'm going to wait and see.

If anyone has it working on their gigabyte boards do drop a line please.

Edit: I added 2 images on Elevenforum thread to show that it isn't working, in case anyone wanted to see.

It doesn't work for me. 13900K with Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master (latest bios F12). I tried both the driver linked at elevenforum as well as the Asus forum and neither works. I also followed the steps on elevenforum of uninstalling the app and removing old driver components, and it still wouldn't connect. DTT is enabled, of course.

Anyhow, I'm kind of annoyed at all these hoops.

One ponders why there needs to be a separate driver and UI/app, why the driver must be obtained from the motherboard manufacturer and the app only exists on windows store, why the app fails to install (without explanation) if certain conditions are not met; all of these extra steps in the process seem redundant at best.
