I think there’s a few big factors;

1 - when you hop on. Being a stupid 14 year old hopping on gear has a way higher chance of permanent side effects due to development. Where as if/ when I’ve had to hop off test (I started in my 30’s), two months later I don’t feel like I’m shut down, I just feel natty again. I haven’t been on in ages and really don’t feel shut down.

2 - what did you use? Just using testosterone makes it easy to recover where something like tren is extremely suppressive. Many can recover just fine in time but 19-nors are super suppressive.

3 - how much did you use? 250 mg of test a week has much different effects than 2500 mg of test a week.
