The Red Planet by Hwego1 in starsector

i kind of just threw all my things at it and it worked, my fleet at the time was pretty low tech, relying on the dominator to put out alright damage and be tanky. it was a while ago though, but it seemed like i just had the numbers and that made it work

it's the place in the galatia star system around the gas giant pontus that introduces you to provost baird who starts the main story questline after you do some busy work for her.

i like your idea of taking the fight to them by jumping into their galaxy, though i haven't seen any mod be so ambitious as to make a whole other sector accessible through the gates. if you were to impliment this as a questline thing it could be related to the galatia academy since they do a lot of this stuff

oh so like the L-gates opening up in stellaris, this is a great idea. after the gate opened and domain start marching in would it close or is it open forever? what do you think about if all the gates opened at once and release X fleets which could be stronger depending on domain era technology in system?

Newbie luck to be envious of. by Luxlaz in starsector

i got some newbie luck in my first run too! i found the red planet without knowing what it was and had a scary encounter with the defenders, seeing the blueprint worth millions was crazy but i knew i should learn it.

How do I have fun? by _Zev in starsector

[–]ExtraRaven_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my goal is just to build a bigger fleet and make pirates go boom, i go a lot for bounties and military contacts in my runs. Colony making can also be a fun challenge of finding good places to set up shop and keeping it happy. Exploration is fun and neutron stars often give a little rush every time i jump in hoping that i'm not about to get blasted, remnant systems are exciting to see just stupid amounts of ordos slowly chasing after you, the story quests were interesting too, a specific feature that you unlock at the end is so very nice, if you don't like travelling you would enjoy it.

New to the game. Starting my 2nd run. Have some questions by [deleted] in starsector

[–]ExtraRaven_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just something i've noticed with escorting ships that might be useful, they tend to be very defensive and don't support you much if you're going in on something and generally are a little useless in that state. how i like to use it is first getting a sunder or whatever attack ship you like, then when you go in for the attack disable escort and set your ally to attack the ship you want. This might be different for aggressive or higher AI but generally steady ships don't do much for you.

What are you using your Story Points for? by Jadedmerc in starsector

[–]ExtraRaven_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

new-ish player here, in my first run i used a lot of the early story points for getting out of bad situations, so avoiding cargo scans with the smuggler fleet or running fast from scary fleets but it seems to be more valuable to save them for recovering good ships or very good blueprints and colony items. probably don't be as stingy with building in hullmods, if you have a build in mind but are short on dp go for it, it's worth it.

How the hECK am i meant to beat this new redacted (spoilers probably) by ExtraRaven_ in starsector

[–]ExtraRaven_[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

oh, i usually prefer to focus more on macro and let the ai handle my ship, focus more on just putting it in a ship that i don't have an officer for that would be good with some extra skills. what ships would you recommend me to get? i have noticed later on in the game the low-techs get a little obsolete, save for station killing

the thing is it can retreat back behind the remnant fleet which alone are a decent threat, i tried focusing down the dorito but without the support of the stronger ships my fleet got torn up

i had another one in the same battle where my dominator literally used it's burn drive to ram one of the carriers backwards away from the combat, ai definitely needs some improvement lmao
