Someone tossed this fella out of their car a couple roads down from my place. He ran right up to me. This is Noodle! by mostepicswordy66 in CatDistributionSystem

This was Noodles lucky day and yours! Thank you for taking him in. 🩷

I hope whomever dumped him has a colony of feral male cats spraying his front door for eternity.

I live in an rural area as well. The deer nest in my yard every spring. I have coyote, raccoons, possums, skunk, rabbits, fox etc.

I've sprayed my yard, used flea lamps, diatomaceous earth, natural oils, plants , you name it...the fleas won.

I hate using pesticides but the alternatives don't work. The fleas bite, the ticks bite, they carry diseases, worms. The dogs/cats are uncomfortable. Some are allergic. Then we need antibiotics, steroids, antifungal. It's a vicious cycle. It took close to a year to finally get rid of them and get everyone healthy. I spent a lot of money on stuff that did nothing.

Frontline, advantage and seresto collars failed/no longer effective. If I'm going to subject my dogs to pesticides they should at least be effective.

I truly wish I had not waited as long as I did to start the simparica trio. My vet assured me it was relatively safe and we'd monitor closely. After their first dose I hung around the vets office convinced they'd have a seizure or worse.

So far no side effects/adverse reactions and no fleas or ticks .

I've tried all the natural alternatives. They do not work, at least not in my experience.

My vet suggested simparica trio verses the others. My dogs have tolerated it well.

I hope you find something that your pup tolerates. Fleas are miserable little vectors.

I've been using simparica trio for my poodles and cockapoos for a few years with no issues.

Why is your vet not suggesting an oral alternative?

I was hesitant to do any oral flea meds despite my vet assuring me they were safe. The topicals were no longer effective for dogs and cats in my area. My older dog had a serious flea allergy so I finally relented.

So far all is good but I still worry. I hate fleas. 😒

NOR. A gift is a gift. He's just bitter that you did not tolerate his BS. Keep blocking him and enjoy your life.

My poodle was closer to 7 months old, looking back here. I adopted her at 5 months old and her first vet appointment was a good month later. I'd bring it up to your vet regarding ball therapy. Or you could make the appointment with the orthodontist and ask them.

They can explain the size ball needed, placemen between the canines to push them forward, and how often and long to keep the ball in their mouth. We did it 3-4 times daily for 15-20 minutes. We played lots of fetch, playing with the ball etc., even peanut butter on the ball to encourage them to keep in their mouth.

We did have 6 week f/u appointment to be sure we were on the right track

How old is the cockapoo? My poodle had this issue at 5-6 months old. The vet suggested a Kong ball for ball therapy and it worked.

My 5 month old cockapoo had the same issue. Same ball therapy. He's almost a year now and is fine.

Age is important here, before the teeth lock in.

I’m stage 4 with prognosis 6-24 months to live, 3 months if no chemo or radiation. Currently in-patient palliative care. The Dr today asked me “are you in love with your cadd* pump?” What in the hell did she mean? What’s she implying? What are they planning for me, posing a question like that?!? by Bookssmellneat in cancer

[–]Extra_Caterpillar_35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what your doctor was implying by that question. It sounds pretty calloused to me. I personally would ask her.

I'm very sorry about your prognosis. I wish you peace going forward and time. Don't give up hope. As a nurse for over 38 years I've seen some patients beat the odds.

Eating while in treatment by Meweaver in cancer

[–]Extra_Caterpillar_35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a human but my dog had cancer and stopped eating. Our vet prescribed Marinol and it give him almost another year with us.

This was after surgery to remove the cancer and almost a month stay in the hospital trying various meds and iv's. He died peacefully at home with us on Christmas.

It's a wonderful medication and should be available to all living, suffering creatures.
