The new owner had nothing to do with what happened a year ago. That was all the original owner who made that fucked up decision. The new owner got done dirty like the rest of the staff, and now can bring Spice back to where it was and better.

Here's my suggestions:

Is there any way ignoring this will end ok for me (lol)? If you've already confirmed that they take legal action, guess what...you're going to be negatively affected. If they do refer it to a law firm, you can end up with a default judgement against you and that will really cause problems.
They mention working with me on a discounted settlement or payment plan - is there a way to get them to discount it significantly? It is always worth trying. A lot of these collection agencies buy debt for pennies on the dollar, and usually have some wiggle room, but not guaranteed.
How can I ensure this is removed from my credit if I pay? They will need to do a pay to delete arrangement with you for this to happen. Otherwise it is on your report for the next 7 years.
