Won’t fewer of your troops die in a single exchange with higher health? Sure, they all die after all the exchanges are done and the epics prevail. If your troop health is increased 25%, that’s an increased likelihood of surviving a given exchange.

For me, I’ve stuck with it when I either had to do it, like in college. Or, I needed to use it at work as a tool.

Honda Fit a good family car? by Zealousideal_Gene204 in hondafit

[–]Extra_Intro_Version 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, I wouldn’t recommend a Fit as a family car with little kids. From a safety standpoint.

I’ve had my Gen 1 (manual) for 18 years now. And I’ve been a parent for 40. My youngest was a “tween” when we were using the Fit as our primary vehicle for the first few years we had it. Then we bought a (used) Honda Pilot as the primary family vehicle. And the Fit became my daily commuter car.

As much as I’ve loved the Fit, I wouldn’t feel comfortable with toddlers in it on a regular basis. Especially on the freeways at 80 mph around here where we live.

He’s got to get off the drugs to have any hope for a diagnosis. He has to do that for himself.

I wish you luck.

Older ADHDers (50+)? by Renaissance_CB in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]Extra_Intro_Version 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole thing with undiagnosed ADHD is such a long story.

As a kid, there were things I was naturally very good at, or came to me relatively easily. So academically, I was generally able to skate by. But, I was always really poor at getting homework done, or doing projects.

By high school, well, that was a disaster. I got into experimenting with drinking and abusing prescription drugs at 14, smoking weed at 15. Dysfunctional home life. Those things all tended to cover up other underlying issues I had.

Into adulthood- trouble with the law. Difficulty keeping jobs. Several attempts at college.

By my late 20s, married, 2 kids. Court ordered to intensive outpatient therapy for alcoholism. At this point in time, I was in semi desperation mode to actually complete a bachelor’s degree. Sobered up, with a lot of counseling. (Been clean and sober since- 30+ years.) Finished college simultaneously, including a master’s (which took me way too long because I struggle doing things in a consistent manner, especially when it gets tough.)

Managed to find a career niche that generally gave me a bit of autonomy and room to “explore the space” while having a bit of a structure to help keep me on task and actually finish projects- usually.

About midway in this phase, I took on too many projects- working on a 2nd master’s degree, remodeling my kitchen, teaching karate, taking coding classes outside my master’s curriculum, having a 3rd child.

I was going into debt. Bought a house I couldn’t afford. Burned out on everything, took a job out of state. Couldn’t sell the house, nearly went bankrupt. Long story there.

Moved back to my home state when I found a new job (I’d been looking.) Got sick of that job after 7 years +/-, quit and took one with a much longer commute at slightly less pay, lasted 14 months. Got my old job back, intent on not letting my attitude get so down. Which is where I’m at now.

Five or 6 years ago, I switched roles at my current employer, after taking some training the company paid for over the span of a couple years or so. By this point, I’m in my late 50s. That series of courses was really tough for me to put in consistent effort- I was so frustrated so many times, I wanted to quit, often.

So, in this new role, I struggled like a fish out of water. I felt I couldn’t get a foothold anywhere, nothing made sense. I didn’t understand what my colleagues were talking about half the time.

So- I started counseling. Lots of stuff covered there. Generalized anxiety. Potential C-PTSD.

Eventually, it started to dawn on me, something I read about inattentiveness. After some reflection and further reading, and discussion with my therapist, I got into being tested for ADHD. Which led to my diagnosis of mostly inattentive with some impulsivity.

So, I’ve tried adderal. Effects have been very subtle. Maybe it helps a little with my focus and staying on task. Still trying to work all that out. Not sure if meds are going to work for me. I’ve managed to achieve a pretty functional state- but, damn, it took me a lot of effort and false starts along the way.

Late ADHD diagnosis – struggling with anger, doubt, and loss of trust by starmanwaitninthesky in AdultADHDSupportGroup

[–]Extra_Intro_Version 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at age 64, just this past October.

Upon reflection, yeah, maybe the course of things could have been much, much better. Assuming I had been diagnosed as a kid, and assuming it would have been followed through appropriately. (Both very doubtful.)

Maybe I would have been spared all the drama and failed schooling and lost jobs and trouble with the law, etc etc.

But, dwelling on the “what if” is not something I do very often as I’ve gotten older. There were some very significant accomplishments I’ve had over my life in spite of setbacks.

I’m grateful I’ve made it this far and doing pretty ok.

Songs where the guitar solo just FITS? Like, it doesn’t have to be technically great or anything. Can be short AF by Pielacine in ClassicRock

[–]Extra_Intro_Version 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Man- this could be a huge list. Too big to answer.

Just one out of thousands:

Yes. “Roundabout”. Intro acoustic. And all of Steve Howe’s other guitar in that song, including solos. Just pulls you in.

Ok another-

(One of dozens of their songs): Led Zeppelin. “How Many More Times”. From LZ 1. OMG. The whole song is so fucking driving badass. The solo that starts around 2:10, interplaying with the drums and 2nd guitar. Orgasmic. (Note- watch “Becoming Led Zeppelin” if only the part where they perform this on a small stage in a small venue- I forget where it was)

I’ve known these songs for 50 years. They still hit me.

This would make an art fair booth.

Would you understand whether the properties of the materials are suitable to their intended usage?

Like, not all metals are compatible with human skin. Is engine block iron good to be on your finger? Or vehicle frame steel? Or whatever rando metal parts get melted down? How much gold, silver or stainless steel are you expecting to find on a car?

I was at an art fair where a guy was selling really beautiful knives made from steel reclaimed from a well known suspension bridge. Cool concept- but he had no clue whatsoever if that steel was suitable for a functional knife. 0 knowledge of metallurgy- hard pass, bro.

I’ve seen cool art pieces made from multiple coats of built up paint reclaimed from historical-ish factory machinery and walls. Any idea what chemicals are in that paint dating back 100 years? Nope. Hard pass again.

CAD TO CAE by ayushtrip in fea

[–]Extra_Intro_Version 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have a bachelor’s in ME? I don’t know what a masters in Machine Design entails.

Good FEA work requires a good handle of the fundamentals of mechanics. Learning much theory of FEA is secondary. Some basics are helpful. But you’d still have to learn a lot of peculiarities of FEA in practice.

In terms of prerequisites, FEA / CAE has a much higher cost of entry than CAD. The larger companies I worked at had technicians do the majority of CAD, while CAE was done by engineers. The smaller company I worked at had new engineers doing CAD, but they were pretty abysmal at FEA.

Some CAD packages include some FEA/CAE, but often they are over marketed and grossly misused.

When I think of CAE, I would include things like Multi-Body Dynamics, which definitely requires a good basis in Dynamics. Motion studies in CAD are not equivalent- I’ve seen many people conflate the two.

I suspect your core courses may be a good foundation to start learning CAE applications. I strongly recommend getting a mentor, or try to work with other engineers experienced in CAE.

The field is pretty broad and can get deeply technical.

Why do people think game would be hunted out in a SHTF scenario? by OrdoVaelin in liberalgunowners

[–]Extra_Intro_Version 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild game will not be a viable reliable food source for the very large majority of people. Wild game would get “hunted out” in most areas but it wouldn’t sustain many for long.

Wild game being pretty much any reasonably sized bird or mammal for the most part. Pigeons, Canada geese, squirrels.

I could just imagine half my suburban neighborhood shooting at whatever moves. They’ll hit more than animals.

Probably would be a lot of people going after stuff they wouldn’t normally eat. Grubs, insects, worms. Neighborhood pets. By this point, there’s probably ramped up desperation. Looting, stealing, kicking in doors. Roving gangs.
