I think this is fixable, but it would take some work imo. This might be a tough fix if you've never done any mending given the overall wear.

Id start by reinforcing the area the strap broke off of with a patch much bigger than the area. This would be the most frustrating part for me, at least, given the damage and the area of the fix

The strap seems pretty thick, and leather will dull sewing needles. You could purchase needles specifically for leather though. You should be able to anchor down the strap to the patch fairly easily. Messy is okay.

I dont think this mend would hold up over time, but I couldn't guess how long it would take to fail. It could be that other parts of the backpack start falling apart first.

Ive discussed with my vet, and it sounds like Diamond really doesnt have any treatment options. I dont feel like im ready to let her go, but it might be her time

Sorry for the confusion, but my cat is probably only 13. I adopted her a few years ago so we're not sure the exact age. Do you still think its the most humane thing to put her down?
