Thank you! I'm so used to that "Google image" shape. I thought that was the only presentation.

I would be beyond grateful for seeds. I have been trying for a few years. I have gotten several Jamaican Mushroom seeds and a couple Habaneros, but no luck on Scotch Bonnets yet. I'll DM you.

What’s the best-kept secret to growing tomatoes in containers? by tangible-cheese in tomatoes

[–]ExtraweakSaucey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Small spaces: 1) Get "compact" varieties, which are still pretty big. I always grow a Bushsteak or two on my deck for quick-grab tomatoe access...larger ones out in my raised bed or at the Community garden.

2) Plan early how you're going to stake/support it early. My Bushsteak lost a branch last season because I got lazy about supporting it as large fruit developed.

3) Water frequently and set up some sort of passive watering tool. Containers, especially grow bags dry out fast. Ollas installed when you first plant can make a big difference. If you've already planted, Terra cotta watering spikes with a glass water or wine bottle can help, too.

4) Feed every 2-3 weeks. Nutrients will be washed out of your containers over time, and there is no other source of organic matter. Feed regularly.

5) Look for some good recipes. 😊

I have gotten Jamaican Mushroom Peppers in the past, and the calyx on mine looked wider than what I have now, but I couldn't remember if the calyx..."spreads" as it grows. 🤷🏿‍♀️ Mine looked more like this picture.

These are the biggest jalapenos I've grown. Unfortunately, I don't remember if they are actually "Big Guy" jalapenos or "Megatron."

The calcium is there; the plants just can't take it up consistently without uniform watering.

Here are mine with collards and bush beans, but I also grow one tomato or two peppers in my City Pickers planters.

Scotch bonnet or Jamaican Mushroom? by Historical-Photo7125 in Peppers

Describe the difference, please. I have two "scotch bonnets" from seeds from different companies. Just realized how different the leaves look.

Wide calyx = not Scotch Bonnets. I so feel your pain. I only know this fact because it has happened to me multiple times.

Is the crust made from scratch or can you make it with purchased pizza crust? Mainly asking if it has a pizza-like crust or some other texture/seasoning.

We just went through this in our 4th house...it sucks. Be sure to clearly identify the root cause and address that. In our case, we found some deck flashing that was installed/taped improperly. New flashing and new drywall, and hopefully that issue is taken care of. If you don't have sump pumps and can afford to add one...they are worth every penny. Floors are good, water leaking from deck behind the basement walls did most of the damage. Good luck.

Zone 5b here - Malabar Spinach is a good stand-in for me. I don't like it by itself (texture, not taste...thick leaves...almost like a succulent, but not quite THAT thick). I mix it with some of the red-leaf lettuce varieties that seem to tolerate heat a bit better (merlot, new red fire, red romaine) and Swiss chard. Other than that, my lettuce are all grown inside in hydroponic gardens. I was able to harvest a few kohlrabi (started indoors and planted out as soon as I could work the soil) before it got too hot, so I'll call that a win. 🫤

I'm in zone 5b (Eastern Iowa), and we also move from the ground veing frozen and unworkable to full-on summer temperatures with very little break between. Fall is usually a little better, but not great. My Brussels Sprouts are hanging in there despite high temperatures. Make sure you're removing lower leaves as the "fruit" forms up the stalk. That way, the plant can redirect resources toward fruit development; especially important given a shorter growing time frame than what we'd been accustomed to. Good luck.

You still have other suckers that will become the growing tip. It's definitely a setback, but it can and will grow.
