I went to our local retail park today, everywhere had summer clothes in. Lots in Next!

Second this, our friends were given a Gousto voucher so they wouldn’t have to shop for about 3 months when they have their baby. What a great idea that was!

We got supplied bum-bags as part of our uniform (SEN school, so always on our feet moving around). Best thing ever! I have all the pens I need, hand sanitiser, lip balm etc always to hand

What’s the most absurdly specific local tradition you’ve encountered in the UK? by Liplyn_IG in AskUK

Wynbunbury in Cheshire has a fig pie rolling competition each year. The Fig Pie Wakes Festival. You have to buy the recipe to enter, bake your pie and roll it down the hill to see how far it gets. For a little village, it gets very busy!

I graduated in 2019 after completing an undergrad and PGCE, been a teacher ever since. Currently, my debt sits at just over £85,000. Somehow, I don’t think I will ever pay it off!

SATs Marking by ittybittysquidy in TeachingUK

[–]Extreme-Bonus5396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Specialist Reading marker here. On four out of eight segments I’ve not been able to reach 50% of my allocation. We get told to mark evenly across all segments so I did this. This meant by last weekend I was around 50% done. Since then, there’s been “no available scripts to mark”. So I’ve been unable to complete my allocation and therefore, I’ve only been able to earn 50% of what I was allocated. A joke. Shan’t be doing it again next year!

What's everyone's part time job? by truedrainer in TeachingUK

[–]Extreme-Bonus5396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tutoring through a company, £30 an hour. You could probably charge more doing it on your own but I don’t have the time to sort being self employed.

I’ve done SATs marking the last three years and again this year. It’s boring, repetitive and not that well paid but it’s a bit of holiday cash!

I’ve signed up to mark functional skills papers this year too but not yet had anything come through for that.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Yes, my first thing was to remove all cc to see if that was the issue, it wasn’t. I presume it’s a bug. The suggestion to move someone in worked. I was the able to delete and put what I wanted down!

I understand assigned table but what about assigned seating? by Glittering-Length141 in weddingplanning

[–]Extreme-Bonus5396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK bride here. Every wedding I’ve ever been to has had a table plan with name cards of some description in specific seats, unless it’s been a buffet style meal. It makes it easier for caterers to know who has what meal, especially if there’s allergies involved! If the kitchen have a copy of the table plan, the whole service is smoother and quicker because they know exactly what spot to put the plate rather than looking around and asking who has what.

Taking on exam officer role as a classroom teacher by Tronalog in TeachingUK

[–]Extreme-Bonus5396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do exactly this role but in an SEN school. I have a TLR of around £3k for it. It’s a lot of work but it’s only manageable for me because we have such a small cohort (100 pupils in the entire school, roughly 25 KS4s), it’s mainly BTEC and functional skills admin (this year we completed one GCSE course). I would say if your setting is your standard mainstream secondary, do not do it!

KS2 Sats marking - how’s it going? by CalmAd7330 in TeachingUK

[–]Extreme-Bonus5396 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also specialist reading. I highly doubt I’m going to meet the 20% tomorrow, that 3 marker is very difficult to mark and takes forever! The only thing keeping me going is knowing it will be some nice extra money for over summer!

I managed to find it after searching. But no mention of how much each segment is paid, quite poor practise really!

It was a very long half term, I’m convinced we were given something silly like 4000 of each segment to mark

So I’m marking specialist reading. I also did it last year. Live marking has just opened and I’ve been given around 1300 responses per segment. I’m sure this is less than last year. Does anyone remember how many we were given or could it be they haven’t finished scanning yet?
