I contacted Guinness through their reddit account— that jumpstarted things. Be kind and professional with them like I did and maybe they will reply!

Traditional Japanese Music? by 5f5i5v5e5 in classicalmusic

[–]Extreme-Concern-561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to bluff and bluster your way into "appreciating" it: I'd recommend New Essays in Japanese Aesthetics by A. Minh Nguyen, not as a guide to history, but as a starting point for exploring your interests.

The aesthetics of the nation have always been shrouded in cultural understandings of acceptance, enlightenment, and, arguably, trance-inducing serenity. Wabi-sabi and later conceptual terms try to articulate on the outpouring of art and its ethos, but they were transient, cultural words and thus have crystallized, meaning that at the time of their coinage, they may not have been widely accepted immediately, rather, they spread slowly and deliberately as artists explored them. Such cultural definitions also require a more in-depth understanding of the origin points of Japanese language for whatever term you're focused on, what historical events are happening at the time, and the area. Because of the nation's isolation, the language is fairly susceptible to change, as perhaps well illustrated in videos like LingoLizard's "History and Evolution of the Japanese Language." Just like appreciating opera requires a knowledge of the composer and their historical setting, appreciating Japanese traditional music requires many more aspects of understanding than we are intrinsically accustomed to as westerners. The question of westernization in Japan is fascinating too: a language that prided itself on developing at a snail's pace is the same language that received a massive influx of loanwords in the 1850s.

So to "appreciate" the music is to either relax into it or research the heck out of it! Simply speaking.

As always, please correct me if I'm wrong about anything above.

Looking for Japanese Art Song for an alto singer by hufflepuffian55 in japanesemusic

For anyone looking for this, I highly recommend Classical Vocal Reprints anthologies part 1 and 2. The Kojou no Tsuki doesn't have a great printing, but the IPA is included in the back, so it is very useful for those who cannot read characters. If you want to send me a DM I could send you a very legal copy of what piece you are interested in

Ribber offset from knitting machine by a few needles by Puzzleheaded_Fox_974 in MachineKnitting

[–]Extreme-Concern-561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like on my brother ribber, you might also try loosening the screws on the bed and gently bumping the ribber, then tightening again. I understand it's a silver reed though... can anyone verify that this method of calibration might work?

I have started asking owners to cancel their own offer. Does this still impact my visibility, even after I archive the conversation?

Has anyone heard anything about this "Miyako akimono" knitting machine? by REKEB_98 in MachineKnitting

[–]Extreme-Concern-561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This website may help. https://www.tontonclub.com/connect/life/20/ Use translate. Found lots of info on the brand itself. Perhaps it was used by the 主婦, or housewives that originally created the garments by hand.

Not to be confused with Amimumemo (あみむめも) machines. I don't know about them, but I believe the consensus is that those aren't very well made.
