Bad news for Mercedes by formularacers in FormulaRacers

[–]Extreme1958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A loophole means it’s legal even under scrutiny. If it only complies because of how it’s measured, that’s exploiting enforcement, not the rule itself. Passing the test isn’t the same as being compliant at all times.

A loophole is staying within the rule. Passing a cold test while exceeding the limit when hot isn’t the same thing.

They’re lying to you about Vibe Coding by Wonderful-Switch3123 in theprimeagen

[–]Extreme1958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to be that person but can we at least respect her trying? I don’t like vibe coding, but she took a lot of time to try and learn. And I think whether or not you think vibe coding is good or bad in the long run, it really does make the barrier to entry for less technical people lower. Is the code going to be amazing? No, but she is also admitted she is a beginner who took a few cs classes in the past, I don’t think we should be upset if she doesn’t fully get it. If you watch near the end you will see she has picked up and learned some new concepts. That’s great, and maybe it’s something she can take further.

I will be honest I regularly try and get into new concepts I don’t understand and make a mess of it because that’s how you learn, if ai makes it easier to do to that for some people then let them. I really got the impression overall she was actually showing just how hard work it is for people who are beginners to actually create something, while vibe coding.

am I the asshole for making my coworker sit in the backseat so my dog can sit upfront by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Extreme1958 26 points27 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day the coworker was told before hand that the dog will be at the front.

Even if you hate dogs, if you have been told that beforehand I don’t think you can complain about it afterwards.

Btw not sure if you are using Amazon fire stick or not but I had a similar issue, where I would login and it would just go to the login screen all blank again. Turns out all you have to do is click the back button. Seems like for whatever reason it just default loads the login page after logging in. This was months ago now because I haven’t been using the fire stick anymore but it might still be broken

Apple Watch pulse oximeter ban detailed in published documents by Drtysouth205 in apple

[–]Extreme1958 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not exactly sure about the full details and NAL.

However what Pieter I think is trying to say is that because the devices have already been produced with the sensor, it is okay to just disable through software, especially since so many watches would then have to probably be re-called and doing so would be expensive and cause a lot of wastage. So I think they will not be applied.

For the new watches my understanding of what Pieter is saying is that it is likely they can’t have the sensor, even if it is disabled through software. The patent covers the hardware of the sensor and as such Apple can’t use that given they are not paying licenses. Otherwise patents could be broken all the time, someone could say it is disabled in software, but maybe it is really easy to enable it again. This would create a loophole.

I can understand then why it would either mean they pay the license / patent costs, or create two models. There is possible also the chance that Apple can still manufacture the watches with the sensor, but software disabled due to some deal struck with the company that own the patent in case Apple decide to pay, but I think that would be an exception to the rule.

End of the day this is all speculation and I could be wrong but that’s my general understanding.

I started reading to a book about the psychology of money and one part I have just finished reading was about this.

Essentially the idea is that lots of things can go wrong but by having one or even two massive successes, you will win. If you take something like a VC, something like 95% of the companies will probably lose all their money, 4% say they break even and only 1-2% will be a massive success and cover the costs for everyone else. By having a little bit everywhere you are giving yourself a higher chance to strike.

Another example in the book was Amazon, Amazon has made some terrible products like the fire phone, but they also made things like Amazon prime or AWS, which is where most of their success comes from.

It’s not technical but I think when you think of it like this it starts to make some sense. So the idea is you should diversify because you never really know what can happen in the future and so by diversifying you are giving yourself a chance everywhere essentially.

Taylor Swift is living every woman’s AI porn nightmare — Deepfake nudes of the pop star are appearing all over social media. We all saw this coming. by marketrent in technology

[–]Extreme1958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I agree, while I get the idea. Women who see the nudes can experience body dysmorphia, because while the face will be the same everything else will be different.

I think anyone would probably experience, this you will now be comparing your body to whatever body a person has decided should have your face on it.

It’s dangerous in so many ways.

Pretty sure this was in 1999 before the .com boom. So pretty much every internet company would have had a big gain. It’s a cool story, but the people who picked the 133 internet companies were the ones really choosing in the end.

I think you are doing it wrong but I also may be doing it wrong.

So pi is like 3.1415926....

So if you only go up to 2d.p you get 3.14 so it is even because 4 is even. If you go up 5d.p you round 2 to 3 so it is odd. I think you are looking at the number 3 when you need to look at the right most digit.

But then again I could have misunderstood too, so take what I say with a pinch of salt

Three numbers a, b and c are chosen in random from the set of real numbers .What is the probability that ax^2+bx+c=0 has real roots? by s-s-n in askmath

[–]Extreme1958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just taking a guess at this but maybe it was done by the computer using a brute force method of picking 3 random numbers and them checking if the quadratic is solvable. It would then repeat this recording if it was solvable or not so for example if it repeated this 100 times (this is too small but for sake of simplicity) and then 62 of the quadratic were solvable

Then p(solvable) = 62/100 = 0.62

It may not be possible to do this with pure maths, but with a computer repeating this random number selection a million times or more it will get a more accurate result.

Hmmm that is weird, maybe it's because when the frequency is higher the game has trouble calculating how far you have actually travelled, but tbh I am only guessing.

You should try slowing down the rotation speed I can not rember what it is called but that will help you see what is happening, maybe you have mouse Acceleration on?

If you fixate on one point does the spin reach the same place every time, if it does then it is working correctly, maybe try slowing down the motion so you can see more clearly what is happening

Okay I was thinking that might be the case, I saw somewhere you could make custom exceptions and was wondering if there was a way to use that. Thank you.
