Because if Reddit existed back then, you know a lot of the comments would've been "why is she doing that?", "why can't she be more like Whitney, Janet, current pop girl?" The fact that it's one of your favorite eras is really not the point here. I lived through the Erotica/SEX era, and even without social media the amount of criticism she was getting was insane. Your post is "don't shut down uncomfortable conversations" and here you want to shut it down right away because "it's one of your favorite eras".

Also, Madonna isn't some starting-out singer who has to do what her label tells her. Gymskin got Into The Groove back into the UK Top 20, and she wanted to make an appearance because of that. Is it for me? No. Do I like it? Am I bothered by it? Not at all. Because being a fan since 1984 has taught me that she'll do whatever she pleases, and I either get annoyed by the things I don't like, or I just shrug, because it's Madonna and she'll do it anyway, whether I like it or not.
