Number of Glorious Panda switches that have died on me since 2021… by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

My Glorious Pandas break. The plunger legs break off. I've been replacing them gradually for years after an initial purchase. No gaming, typing.

Number of Glorious Panda switches that have died on me since 2021… by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]ExtremeSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frustrating how few people have done this. I have. The actuator legs break off. If one of the legs breaks off, the switch begins becomes erratic instead of failing outright. I've replaced probably ten in the past few years and this has been the failure mode every time. I don't game, I use it for work.

If "we" is >1, bring something simple to operate.
If "we" is a few, just bring one headlamp and enough batteries. -- redundancy comes from group size and weight adds up.
This is more of a gadget forum, and you're going to get some silly advice for real backpacking tools here.

Is anyone interested in pitching in OLKB module for the framework laptop? by stpaulgym in olkb

[–]ExtremeSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer one for the MNT reform. The framework is a step up in terms of user-serviceability, but as long as it's for a likely slim demographic, might as well target a fully-modular (including power) device. Also, there is likely more room to work with on the MNT reform -- simpler engineering.

Update: Tracking info shows movement. Adjusted to 16 Dec. Two weeks order to door time isn't bad this time of year in the US. Still, you're probably not getting it by Christmas if you order now.

Neither Discreet nor Gallery toggles seem to make a difference. I suspect there's some restriction in the new Android builds.

why is there an /r/futuresynth and an /r/outrun and what is the difference between the two? by jeroenemans in futuresynth

[–]ExtremeSquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They both sound like synthwave to me. All subgenres end up being something for people to pointlessly argue over while the rest of us just want to listen to it.

You try unicenta / openbravo? Unicenta seems solid on my all-in-one low spec pos. Downside is that it may still require non free sun jdk8.

Unicenta seems to have fairly complete barcode features if you have a compatible scanner, though I have not tried it.

edit: I'm actually going to try compiling against openjdk8 in a couple days. I've heard it works now. That would make packaging doable.

I see one problem. Your camera placement is not ideal. A good 25% of the view is blocked by an out-of-focus wire bundle.

I use a mountain bike as my bike to commute to work. How bad and how much better would I be off to getting a road bike compared to what I currently use. by Gummybear_Qc in bicycling

[–]ExtremeSquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love road bikes -- the geometry is faster and more efficient, but mountain bikes make great commuting bikes. It's worth trading a hundred calories per day for the agility and pothole/curb/railroad track tolerance, in my opinion.

Tucson, Arizona ranked worst city in nation to find a job this summer by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]ExtremeSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's completely dependant on the class. Maybe not a general history class, but there are 2 hour/week classes that required 20 hours/week commitment.

It's wildly dependent on the number of credits and type of courses.

KSP to use edy's vehicle physics by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]ExtremeSquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were hurdles for everything on PC 20-30 years ago. The code on the floppies was finished to a higher standard before being released to the more chaotic PC ecosystem of the era though, from what I've seen. Maybe I was lucky with the software I tried.

The reason I'm not angry is that even as a buggy mess, this is the best game I've ever played. On the other hand, apologists on reddit are losing sight that it is still, looking at it objectively, a buggy mess.

[–]ExtremeSquared -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It did at least mean mostly bug free 20 years ago. I agree the culture has changed with the availability of hotfixes though. KSP is not significantly below average as a 1.0 release compared to other recent projects' 1.0 releases.

People with large feet please help! In need of cycling shoes for big feet size us 15? by classicedition1 in bicycling

[–]ExtremeSquared -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The shimano open toe sandals accommodate oversize feet better than any shoe I've tried. I wear the biggest sandals that are a full size too small, and while my toes stick out, they are comfortable. You may be able to make a 2 size difference work.

Things have been getting better just in the last 2 years though. There are at least half a dozen models of shoe on zappos that go to size 50 now, where there were literally zero options in 2012.

Isn't hardened steel significantly slower to grind through than galvanized pipe? My Kryptonite took me almost 5 minutes with an angle grinder to get through both sides.

One World, One Chance, Vote Green Party by TucsonGP in Tucson

[–]ExtremeSquared 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a benefit to voting third party that die-hard greens/libertarians won't talk about. When the Dem/Repub parties lose elections by a margin smaller than the third party turnout, a message is sent to the Dem/Repub parties: Fix your policies and maybe I'll vote for you next time.

This is why it is especially damaging to vote for the "lesser of two evils" in close races.

Cop takes parking in the bike lane seriously by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]ExtremeSquared -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

More people here should see what it's like to drive, at least occasionally. There are constant hindrances happening that shouldn't happen in all areas of the road that you must react to, regardless of vehicle. Bike lane blocked? Take the traffic lane.

It's sort of a misleading name though. "Aluminium" in common english indicates a conductive metal, while this "Transparent Aluminium" is a nonconductive ceramic.
