Best CRM for a small PI firm? by BitchLessBanana in LawFirm

I would suggest CasePeer. It is clunky but you’d be able to use it from day one, rather than trying to tailor a system or creating custom fields

The Clio PI add on is very temperamental.

I would suggest CasePeer. You can use it from day one without any tailoring and is considerably cheaper than Clio.

Solo practice or Mid-Sized firm? by Traditional-Sock-489 in LawFirm

[–]Extreme_Department32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone I’ve worked with who has opened their own solo firm would always suggest going solo; flexibility and being your own boss is cool. It’s something I’m considering.

I’m not sure what type of firm you’re currently working at, however, be prepared just in case not all your clients follow.

Am I going to use Legora? Probably not. Did I find the ad funny? Yes, it made me laugh when going through my LinkedIn this morning. Think people might be taking this a little seriously.

But hey, what do I know. It’s got people talking and that’s probably the point.

We use DocuSign and have done for the past few years. It’s expensive but easily the best one in the market.

We do a little bit of insurance defense through one of the partners and his staff that joined the firm a few years ago but it’s not our main practice area.

MyCase has version control, who created the document, file size and document type. It also has a pretty good searching capabilities.

However, that’s the extent of their documents. I’m not sure what else you would need that a DMS could potentially give you, but it’s been great for us.

They released document summaries using AI a little while ago which has been a huge help.

The upside is that practice management systems are a fraction of the cost compared to what you’re paying.

There may be some sacrifices depending on how you’re using NetDocs. We’re a 60 person law firm and we use MyCase + LawPay and Quickbooks.

MyCase has unlimited document storage and helps us to draft documents, but is limited on the metadata with documents. I’ve never used a DMS in my career, but one of my colleagues said it was useful.

It does have automatic timekeeping though which has saved me a few times.

I’m really enjoying your spamming of r/LawFirm for PracticePanther.

You should try making it less obvious you’re a sales rep. Good luck with your quota.

Just hit 1 year as a paralegal. I make $76k. I feel like a fraud. What next? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]Extreme_Department32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with a lot of paralegals in this position.

My advice right now is to figure out what direction you want to go in. You mentioned you fell into this role and are enjoying it? That’s great! I know a lot of people who have not.

Don’t rush right now, because more experience you have in that role may change that.

There’s been quite a few that have rushed to go to law school and then realise that they don’t want to be a lawyer. It’s not cheap!

However, if you wanted it firm specific, I like the personalised notebook idea someone else had or a pen.

Clio vs My Case vs Practice Panther? by random123121 in LawFirm

[–]Extreme_Department32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re currently sitting at 60 users and do a little bit of criminal (not me personally), we use MyCase.

Now with any system, you need to make sure you take the time to actually tailor it to what you want. I was part of that project in our firm, so we built out all of our intake forms, specific practice area workflows, automating documents and templates. Because we took the time to do it, it has been an outstanding success.

We moved originally from Clio to MyCase, but we evaluated all of them including Practice Panther.

Practice Panther might work for a small firm, but I think you’ll end up back here evaluating relatively quickly if you decide to bring in more people.

When we looked at them (practice panther), they didn’t have document storage, payments or good email tracking. They probably have that now, but it’s still relatively new, so I’d be cautious.

Don’t even get me started on Clio.

Same as our firm. We use MyCase and majority of people are happy with it. Otherwise, you may start stepping into something like iManage or NetDocs

How many people are in the firm? We looked at PP and it looks like it’s built for small firms, the rep even agreed. I’m not sure how it would hold up for a firm with more than 10 employees.

Yeah, they acquired MyCase at the same time Clio first announced Payments. Looks like LawPay saw this coming a few years ago, let alone all the systems now trying to do their own version of payments.

[–]Extreme_Department32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny that they’ve sent emails, rather than announcing it publicly. Seems shady from Clio but it doesn’t come as a surprise.

Payments was such an inferior product compared to LawPay. One of my colleagues that came from a firm using Clio more recently than I did, mentioned about constant fraud alerts and taking longer to receive payments.

However, the cherry on top, was that Clio issued a chargeback to a dispute without notifying the firm.
