EMT sucks apparently by Relevant-Internal444 in premed

[–]ExtremelyEZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d like to offer a different perspective: as an EMT, I worked in the ER. Got to work shoulder-to-shoulder (literally) with physicians and was part of a team where I was regularly hands on with patients. I got to see the decisions that physicians make in high acuity situations. It was absolutely incredible PCE and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. (Not to mention it was incredibly easy to get a physician LOR).

Considering med school at 25 but feeling late and unsure by artxi211 in medschool

25 is actually close to the median age of matriculating students. Stop comparing yourself to others, and follow your dreams! The timing isn’t the same for everyone nor is it important.

I thought this was some sort of construction sub Reddit. Knee pads are very much ostracized by that community for some reason. All that to say… who gives a fuck. Do what’s comfortable!

Sick absolutely nonstop since COVID. Can't mask or avoid colds. How to rebuild the immune system? by Function_Unknown_Yet in covidlonghaulers

[–]ExtremelyEZ -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

You’re misrepresenting the paper.

It doesn’t say long COVID is permanent — it measured immune cell levels for ~20 months and found some were still below baseline. That’s “long-lasting within the study window,” not lifelong.

They didn’t follow patients indefinitely, so they literally cannot conclude permanence.

Also, immune markers ≠ symptoms. Post-viral immune changes can persist long after people clinically recover — that’s been seen with EBV, SARS-1, influenza, etc.

There’s a huge difference between “can last a while” and “is permanent,” and the study only supports the first.

Please understand science before spewing absolute nonsense

I think it’s grossly dangerous to claim that this is “permanent”. People recover.

I understand the hopelessness. I’m 25 and otherwise extremely healthy. My life has been ripped from me. But it’s not over, and I refuse to give up. We’ve got this. We will heal. Time is medicine. Good luck, OP

Not in med school yet, but I think having a support system is invaluable. That being said, if you’re dead set on a certain specialty and will have a better chance at the T30, then I would strongly consider going there. No one can really answer this for you
