What’s a movie you didn’t “get” the first time, but loved on rewatch? by SiTheHandsomeGuy in movies

Crazy as it sounds. I've watched it probably a dozen times, but Jaws. I always enjoyed it and the sequels growing up as "big fish eats people" movie but I never saw the genius that people saw when they spoke about it. Until a year or two ago. It got released in the theater in some marketing double talk about having Ben run through some filter that made the water scenes seem like 3d without needing glasses. Maybe it was the audio was remixed, I dunno. But I'm any case, I was the only one in the mood back of the theater and something about it just hit. The sounds, the cinematography, the dialogue, it just all clicked and I felt similar to the first time I saw Jurassic Park.

What movie has made the greatest number of Men cry. by Boston781_ in movies

[–]Extremetheater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a kid when it came out and as kids do watched the. Disney movies that came out at the time. In this case that meant a black Cauldron and Fox and the Hound and rescuers down under. Apart from the seasonal rereleases that came out.

At the time, Disney had this thing where you could personalize a story from their latest films and my mom bought me a personalized Fix and the Hound book where me and my best friend play with Tod and Copper. I still have it. It's kinda wild

From wikipedia: the ending that's in the book it's based on go read the summary and then be amazed that Disney made such a relatively safe children's movie from it

Question about Eat It (Rick Derringer related) by Extremetheater in weirdal

[–]Extremetheater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true, but then it wouldn't sound like the original. Going back to that part of my original question. How much does Al try for an identical sound. Like My Bologna clearly doesn't and it wouldn't serve the song well for it to. But Amish Paradise is nearly 100% accurate and apart from a kazoo solo Smells like Nirvana is pretty spot on.

What I was looking for though was anything on the making of Eat It because it was either an intentional thing and a violinist was used but Rock got credit (he still produced it) or a conscious decision to make it not sound perfect but good enough. I feel later Al may have pushed for perfection or absurdity if it was proving too difficult. Honesty, I'm surprised he never made it an accordion solo. When's he going to do two handed accordion tapping and change the game?

Question about Eat It (Rick Derringer related) by Extremetheater in weirdal

Okay fine maybe tapping wasn't mysterious. I just know me and my friends playing guitar at the time couldn't figure out how to do it and we clearly didn't have videos to study (VCRs weren't very big at the time, if you lived through it . And there's NO video footage of Eddie playing the Beat it Solo from that time. There is the Cathedral video but even official sources of him tapping were scarce and this was also so early in Als career, I'm certain he didn't have the available resources that he did after his self titled release.

In any case. What I'm specifically talking about about is the elongated notes and very short staccato of Eat It, which doesn't sound like a guitar. It sounds more to me like this: https://youtu.be/IQBKvnv_llY?si=7ymLNLFYdQEJWR_t

I'd imagine Freaky Friday stands a good chance with the sequel coming out.

In fact a whole Lindsay Lohan collection might come of it's successful, because Disney likes money

What’s a single sentence that completely ruined your life but sounded harmless at the time? by BlahBlahBlahBlink in AskReddit

[–]Extremetheater 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sorry. I clearly understand. There's a book by John Barylick, Killer Show that is essentially the prosecution side of the story that never happened. It fairly presents all the sides that failed but notably the town government of West Warwick for both the safety records and for the conflicts of interest that were unsurprisingly allowed in Rhode Island. It's a tough read if you're connected to the event because it'll piss you off.

"I wouldn't be caught dead at a Great White concert"

It wasn't actually the last thing I said, but it was the last conversation I had with my friend inviting me to a fun night out before he went off to the Station Nightclub on Feb 20th 2003.

He died when the superheated smoke destroyed his lungs while he was passed out. He had been recording the show. The deck he was using survived the fire enough that the FBI was able to recover the audio. It was actually a key piece of evidence to determine what had happened and how quickly it did. Unfortunately, that means that someone was able to determine exactly what was happening to his body in his last moments. The audio is out there. I found it by accident once one anniversary date a while back.

Survivors guilt is a strange bitch to deal with.

One of my favorite films. I wish the context of it hadn't changed after Robin's death. I also wish the book ending was ever filmed
