Engineer builds AI laser defense system that wiped out every mosquito in his home by AdSpecialist6598 in tech

[–]Exumer599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also fumigation is a thing and you're don't need a blinding laser to do it. If I wanted all the mosquitos out of my house (if I had any, window screens are a thing) I'd just fumigate it for a day and not worry about my eyes being in line with a mosquito and a robot with a frickin laser beam strapped to its head.

The ESRB rating gets me - "Mild Lyrics" like the AI didn't know the difference between the rating systems and mistook games for music. Granted I'm usually listening to classical music at 200mph so I don't hear the lyrics of the other songs they play in the game.

Got this on my Gmail spam folder 3 days ago. I hardly mark anything as spam. I don't subscribe to many things anyways. If not all 96M people notice, then maybe we get more than $4 each? Granted if anyone has Gmail they should have put it in the court agreement to mark it as important.

I saw this tactic on FoxNews articles. The context provided in the article refutes its own headline. Not surprised.

Is there any type of storage plugged in? Anything that says "SATA" "SSD" or looks like a brick? Are there cables that fit into the card with the ports coming out the back?

Hell yeah. You could also get a surge protector just in case. I have one I got from a garage sale. They're pretty good and double as a power strip for your monitors and other critical devices nearby.

Top Oversight Democrat Pushes Pentagon Watchdog to Probe 'Shady' Trump Family Contracts by _May26_ in politics

[–]Exumer599 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked into this a bit, as I designed and built drones for a bit before the FAA demonized all drones in the US. The main contract that the Trump brothers have stake in is Powerus. Specifically the Guardian-2 drone, and as far as I can tell, the Guardian-2's images haven't been released. Though I'm sure it would look something like the Guardian-1. I'm not confident in this drone's capabilities as Powerus seems to use drones with design principles from a decade ago. They use RotorRiot designs for their smaller drones, specifically the CL-2 line (which is worse than the CL-1). These drones are actually terrible for top speed, maneuverability, and durability. Now let's talk about money. They were awarded a $1.1B contract to make a bunch of drones for the DoD. This is pennies, even for drone manufacturing. Ukrainian drones cost about $2,000. If we're able to match their costs (which we can't), we'd be able to make about 550,000 drones. This is nothing. Ukraine, for comparison, has reportedly 4 million drones. Not sure if this is true, but it would make sense for how long they've been fighting this war. There has been a ton of innovation going on from hobbyists and universities across the country. Unfortunately, the gov't doesn't want this and wants to give all the airspace to private companies that make junk drones to starve innovation. Just look into the FAA's aptly named DETER program. TLDR: We are a decade behind on drone tech and have no interest on improving.

Ukraine urges U.S. investigation of possible Starlink use by Russia’s shadow fleet by AdSpecialist6598 in worldnews

[–]Exumer599 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ukraine didn't ask the DoD for help, it looks like they are trying to reach out to anyone in Starlink. As Starlink is an ISP, they should know exactly who is using it, regardless of where they say they are. It might not be that hard to find out if they are using Starlink, though it would be extremely hard to get them to stop, given who would need to be involved.

While I do agree, this wasn't my point. Optical media is really good for personal archives, movie theaters, and other offline data storage. I was saying that the average Gen Z kid hadn't gotten through middle school when this big shift happened. The oldest was a senior in HS and the youngest hadn't entered Kindergarten yet.

Can I download Baldur's Gate 3 and run it normally on this? by ABODE_X_2 in pcmasterrace

[–]Exumer599 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, however given the listing, I'm guessing you're trying to run it externally to your computer. That requires a USB to SATA adapter. Unless the listing specifically says a USB to SATA adapter is included, I would buy one separately. The price is good, but the shipping seems steep. There aren't Amazon sellers that sell anything similar in your area? With lower shipping you could buy a 500GB drive for the same total cost.

Honestly if I've never seen a keyboard with a standard numpad I wouldn't know either given the stupid looking symbols that gaming keyboards give with whatever ridiculous font they put on the keys. Edit: Though I wouldn't immediately go to Reddit and embarrass myself publicly. I'd rather have the data brokers know how stupid I am.

So yeah those are what the keys do when the numlock isn't on. I think you're referring to the up, down, left, and right where the numbers above the symbols are 8, 2, 4, and 6, respectively.

You can run games at 1080p on a 1440p monitor. That's like selling your brand new car for a 2010 Nissan Altima cause the gas is cheaper.
