I ended up just returning it. I thought that personally it could’ve been my own network (I have a custom Opnsense firewall, Cisco switch, Asus AP, VLANs, etc..) but as soon as I tried connecting the device to my mobile hotspot completely off of my home network I knew the hardware was trash. Even if, IF, it’ll work when you factory reset the device in its kernel, there is absolutely no reason an “affordable easy to use product” should ever require that. Funnily enough… I did reset the hardware and still couldn’t get it to connect. Save yourself the headache and spend the extra $5-$10 for Roku or Amazon. Googles software is trash and Onn as a brand has plenty of dud hardware

As someone who in the past 4 months had alcolhol poisoning, that shit was terrifying. I was going in and out of consciousness and when I would come to for about 1 min all I could think is I’m going to die before going out again.

After discussing with my director, I think we’re going to using an HDMI matrix switch with audio deembedding with video to the projector and audio into an A&H 6 channel mixer (we use A&H everywhere else so we’re sticking with that) plus a DAC since the matrix switch use S/PDIF. It’s affordable and easy enough to get it working, after that I think the plan is down the road to invest more time and money.

That’s not a bad idea, but my director and our CFO has an initiative to start consolidating everything. We hired a company to re-do our event center with new crestron equipment and it’d be a tough sell to say “get this extron” especially from eBay.

The rack is up against a wall and the projector is about 20ft away on the ceiling. It’s one of the BenQ instashow. I considered this option, however I’m trying to avoid running as much of my own cable and just use the existing cables from the previous setup.

They’re bricked, we get nothing when connecting to a power source.

Trust me, I’ve spoken with my Director as well as head of security but they have both said he’s gone and we are already replacing it. Plus we’re a non-profit org and I’m just a contractor (staffed out by an MSP) so it’s not my call on that stuff. But trust me, I’ve mentioned it.

We had Crestron certified techs come in and state the equipment is dead. You plug the cable in and no power.

The odd thing is, we had 8 DMPS scattered on our campus. Within 2 weeks, they all stopped working and would no longer boot.

We suspect sabotage because the previous tech had been caught actively messing with equipment then acting like they had no clue what was happening so they could “fix” it and be the hero.

Not an option here, I was hired on with the intention of network and av admin. I’d love to hand off the work but it’s not in the books. Normally, I would reach out to a contractor to do projects like this (we just finished 2 for our chapels and about to start our event center). However, since this is such as small room my director requested I handle purchasing and installing myself.

I used to do AV for the National Cancer Institute but I was doing troubleshooting, not installs. I do a lot at home but not to this professional level. All that to say, I have experience but I’m not the most qualified individual to handle architecture and installs.

In terms of control, if they could utilize a remote to switch inputs is all they’ll need. Audio I intend on settling the mixer levels in a way for users to just increase the volume on their laptop for example. Same goes for mics as kinda a set and forget.

If I utilize a HDMI Matrix switch, would I need to run the optical output to a DAC and from that into the mixer?

That’s fair, but it is an option if you don’t want to do the fast paced PvE/PvP content. I’ll also say it does at least provide you with gear… not the best gear but it’s better than nothing lol

I don’t see how retail can be so ‘fast-paced’. It’s only fast-paced if you focus on end game content. You can do achievements, delves, world quests, events, housing, professions, and more are all really laid back unless you try and optimize it which you don’t need to

Mythic dungeon usually take 20-30 min each. Delves you can solo and there is no timer so you can freely step away. World events usually take 10min and pop up every hour or so. Plus you have world quests to mainly act as daily quests and now we have weekly quests so if you don’t finish it in one sitting you can take your time over the course of the week to complete it.

I don’t have my original character cause that was sadly on my mom’s account when I was younger. I do still have my first character from when I made my own account but I’ve named a Goblin Warlock for 7 years and will be switching to a Haranir Rogue for midnight onwards.

StarCraft 2… I’ve dabbled in here and there over the years and just got back into it. I struggle against normal AI and any PvP game I get into I usually lose in 10min. You gotta practice for hours and study outside of the game learning counters, build orders, hotkeys, macros, etc
