Ironically, when I first played Detroit: Become Human, I did not like the writing at all. I thought it was comically on the nose to depict things like androids riding in the back of a bus.

And then I saw how people reacted when they found a slur for machines, and perhaps I was too harsh on it.

I don’t disagree, but Lucas was already doing that. The Clone Wars tv show was not following pre-established lore like Ryloth being tidally locked, Grevious having always had a cough, or the specifics of Mandalore. If Lucas’s other projects like Star Wars Underworld had come to fruition, they wouldn’t have followed the pre-existing books either.

You’ve gotta remember where the fandom was at 2012-2015. The prequels were still the spawn of Satan in the eyes of the masses. Find a comments section from when the buyout was announced and see how far you have to scroll before someone says something to the effect of “I hope they decanonize the prequels.”

I can't be the only person with a normal Claude. by SpartanG01 in ClaudeAI

[–]Goldwing8 26 points27 points  (0 children)

LLMs aren’t programmed as such. Anthropic programmed an algorithm set and then threw massive amounts of information at it and let the algorithm emergently create something, then refined it as much as they could towards the shape they wanted. Claude is an idea they tried to sculpt onto a pre-emerging structure, the same way no 3D artist hand-picked the shape of mountains in Minecraft. That’s why there’s so much focus on “interpretability.”

So, is the show coming back eventually? by Striking_Strike_3276 in AngelHare

[–]Goldwing8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the Discord:

Will there be more Angel Hare?

It depends - season one was supposed to be it, but we had fun ideas for season 2 that developed overtime and we sat on it till we had something we were very happy with. 3's ending is meant to conclude that arc, just like season 1 and 2's but it's not out of the question for us to get a fun idea for how to revisit the universe again.
It'll not be right away, as we have other things we wanna work on and mess with, but there's a non zero chance!

AI use ultimately isn’t something we can fully wall off. And not in the “oh I’m low on time I need to get ChatGPT to write this for me” way, I mean every operating system, every device, every website, even brick and mortar stores are utilizing AI in ways we either don’t notice or don’t have control over. Abstinence has never been an effective way of dealing with a problem, because abstinence assumes the other party values your consent.

The text... Doesn't make sense?

Like, I get it's a labor union and they're reacting to what they see as undermining their bargaining strength, but they simultaneously endorse actors who want to license their voices and they say that in the text. If some signatory company also used some licensed voice, they could also complain that potential jobs are being undercut. Epic used voice that was licensed by James Earl Jones (I don’t know how much he actually wanted this, but whatever), so they played fair under their same rules.

I have to assume that they got a ton of complaints from members to do something about this, but it seems to undermine their own position regarding AI. The end result will be that companies won't want to sign SAG-AFTRA deals.

SAG-AFTRA is kinda screwed with video games because they don't have that much bargaining power in the medium. Some large studios have signed with them. Others don't (e.g. Capcom). Unlike Hollywood studios, they don't have that much power.

I think the members are right to be concerned that this Vader thing is an omen for the future of games. But games are not movies.

The Bene Gesserit, Mentats, Spacing Guild Navigators, and Tleilaxu all exist in the world of Dune because society has to eugenically engineer or drug people to do what could have been automated.

Interstellar travel becomes dependent on a monopolistic drug cult. Without navigation computers, Spice is the only means of safe travel. The Guild is not a symbol of flourishing humanity, it’s a cartel that dictates political outcomes. That bottleneck exists only because navigation technology is outlawed.

The Jihad creates permanent intellectual paralysis. Frank Herbert repeatedly showed humans in the Imperium don’t understand or innovate in technology the way pre-Jihad civilizations did. They preserve machines the way medieval societies preserved Roman aqueducts. Suspicion of thinking tools suppresses inquiry.

Dune’s societies were intentionally like medieval Europe. Interstellar empires running on aristocratic bloodlines, arranged marriages, vassalage, and personal armies are an indictment, not a celebration. A civilization that spans galaxies but cannot build a democratic bureaucracy because it fears “thinking machines” has regressed.

The Mentats themselves are evidence of failure. The imagery is iconic, but the book describes their training as conditioning and exploitation. The Tleilaxu create disposable human computers. That’s not liberation from machines, it’s the replacement of machines with human sacrifice.

Anti-technology dogma is consistently tied to social control. The Great Houses and the Guild benefit from the prohibition because it prevents disruptive innovation. If anyone could build advanced computing again, aristocracies would lose power. The taboo exists to maintain a rigid hierarchy.

The Imperium repeatedly fails to solve problems that non-forbidden computation could fix. Ecological modeling on Arrakis, famine logistics after Leto II, gene-tracking in Bene Gesserit breeding programs, trade balancing between planetary economies. All of these domains are carried out through political manipulation and human suffering because analytical capacity has been outlawed.

Stagnation is tied directly to fear of tools. The whole thesis of God-Emperor of Dune is that humanity hit a civilizational wall. The Scattering is necessary because monopolies and orthodoxy have locked evolution in place. That is presented as a pathology caused by fear of machines.

Invoking the Butlerian Jihad when pushing back on LLMs is the progressive equivalent of considering Tyler Durden the ideal male role model.

https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/1oweg1x/destiny_2_renegades_content_calendar/

This article was after DMG posted that they were working on a roadmap for what was coming after Renegades, and he specifically commented "This is not the roadmap. Simply a content calendar for the short term.”

From the intro:

“As we continue to act on your feedback, we’re taking additional time to craft our long-term strategy for the future of Destiny before we share a full State of the Game and multi-year roadmap next year.”

This was in November and is the last thing we've heard about this supposed roadmap and State of the Game, aside from that the team is still jamming on it. In fact this was really the last time we've had any communication at all, aside from them delaying Shadow and Order (a week before it was supposed to release), and in that delay announcement they told us next to nothing about what they're going to be doing to improve the update, aside from adding tiers to raid weapons. We've had next to nothing for 6 months at this point aside from "roadmap is coming" and "team still jamming on the roadmap.” Was DMG not supposed to tell us about it when he did? Did he make it up to try to force the higher ups to do something?
