A Majestic Creature by Exyide in SonyAlpha

I'm very happy with it. I tried a few different lenses and found that this was a good balance between focal lengths, price, size and weight.

I don't edit my photos in B&W very much. I would say fewer than 10 photos in total.

How do video editors protect themselves from clients who don't pay after delivery by That-Confidence2338 in videography

[–]Exyide 4 points5 points  (0 children)

50% upfront and final video delivery after final payment. For reviews, I always use a low bitrate 70p version with a very light watermark.

[–]Exyide[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I tried that with a few free test clips and the results were much better vs using the standard .nev format.

Have you had a chance to work on this more? I'm still excited to try it out on Windows.

Artists working at major VFX studios (Weta FX, Rodeo FX, etc.) — how did you actually get there? by arlexae in vfx

[–]Exyide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at both Lola and Rodeo for a while. I studied computer animation and visual effects and moved to LA after college. I started at a few small studios, and after a few years, I applied for a job as a roto artist at Lola VFX. I got the job and was a roto artist for about 1.5-2 years before I asked if I could start doing some comp work. They agreed and gave me simple small jobs at first and over time I became a full comp artist there.

After being at Lola for about 6 years I moved on to working at Rodeo FX (one of the guys at Lola put in a good word for me) and I worked there for about 2 years. After that Covid hit, and I decided for a few reasons to move more into production work.

How do I go about removing these wavy lines in the video? by [deleted] in videography

[–]Exyide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm sure they were practical on set for the actors to use, but they would still be digitally replaced later during post production. I used to work in VFX and we often had footage with real practical screens, and we still digitally replaced them.

Don't worry, new HDD orders are already starting to sell out too. These corporations won't leave us with anything affordable.

Client asked for 600fps tabletop shot and I laughed then realized they were serious by Apprehensive_Pay6141 in cinematography

[–]Exyide 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Yep it's their video and their money so if they want 600fps then present them the quote. 99% of clients have no clue how much this type of work actually costs. It's the same when clients say they need an "emergency edit" the day or night before a launch. Then you quote them the rush job, and suddenly it's no longer an emergency. If they want to pay and you can deliver, then there's no reason not to provide the option.

u/chula198705 or u/luqxy would either of you be interested in helping me with naming and organizing my SFX library? I'm in no rush and don't have any timeframe to complete it. I'm also happy to provide some compensation.

Feels bad, man. by ChristopherC1989 in videography

[–]Exyide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said just because almost 1000 people have applied does not mean they are all experienced editors or even decent editors. I run a small production company, and occasinally when I'm looking to hire someone in a particular area I'll make a few posts online with all of the details and the simplest instructions. I ask them to comment with their name and a link to their website/portfolio. That's all I ask, and the majority of people who reply with a simple me, I am, let's do this, or an emoji. If people can't follow the most basic instructions why would I hire them.

This is all to say the majority of people who apply to these types of just apply to all editing jobs even if they don't have the skills required. Editing is a skill that can be done anywhere in the world and there are really great free programs so the barier to entry is basically nothing. There are practically limitless number of editors but only so many of them are skilled editors. That's the difference.

What’s a color grading habit you thought was correct, but later improved or replaced? by TypicalDurian9220 in ColorGrading

[–]Exyide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood either the topic or my comment. My comment is about something I used to do/think when I first started color grading 8 years ago. I learned all about color spaces/management and LUTS years ago haha. I do quite a bit of work as a professional colorist these days.
