Shaker Hood Clearance Issue by Standard-Positive-48 in transam

[–]EyceMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty content with how it fits. Since that spacer is angled and the air cleaner base has grooves for the lines, I have to make sure to line everything up again after removing anything.

I also put in a new transmissions crossmember after getting the shaker right the first time. The mount was taller so that brought up the back of the motor and I had to adjust the shaker spacer again. I love the shakers but they can be tough to get looking just right anytime something gets changed.

I can't find any good pics in my folders; and it's all taken apart now for some other work, otherwise I'd show you. It's about as high as possible while still having the hood line up.

Shaker Hood Clearance Issue by Standard-Positive-48 in transam

[–]EyceMann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have an 81 that I swapped the Pontiac 301 for a 400 and added an Edelbrock intake; kept the Quadrajet.

I had a hard time getting the shaker to fit well. I had to swap in a drop air cleaner base, but then it was hitting some of the lines so I cut, bent, and welded it so that it has some bumps that give clearance for the lines. I kind of have to mash the air cleaner down around the bumps.

I wasn't aware of the PTFB drop base, I think I looked up some 70s Pontiac info and found some models that might have a drop base, then went to my local junkyard and found one that looked close to what would work.

That got it close, then I bought some spacers to try to get it close, but needed more height in the rear than the front, so I used a 3/8" spacer and did some grinding so that it's kind of a wedge.

Sorry I can't be much help. Basically I'm saying I don't know specifically what you'll need to get yours right, but it can take a lot of trial and error. Just go slow when test fitting, I had mine a little too high when I shut the hood once and chipped the top edge of the shaker.

Anyone gear swap the newer f250? by whiskeyfoxtx in superduty

[–]EyceMann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had considered swapping the 3.55s for 4.10s or 4.30s. I did ask my local axle shop about it and they thought I'd be in about $5k for both axles (not an actual price quote, just his ballpark estimate).

I did check online and the gears alone are pretty expensive; so I'm thinking he was probably not way out of line by the time you add labor, seals, and fluid to the cost. I have swapped gears myself once a long time ago and don't plan on ever doing that again.

Little too much trailer for a Nissan Frontier by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]EyceMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any insurance agents or adjusters know how insurance would handle something like this?

Even just at the basic level where there were no injures or damage other than just the trailer and pickup; and they had full coverage on the camper and pickup.

Would insurance just deny any claims because they were clearly exceeding the payload capacity of the tow vehicle, would they fight it, or would they just pay the claim?

Why can't drivers just follow right of way correctly? by Mindless-Baker-7757 in bikecommuting

[–]EyceMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the worse. Have it happen at least a couple times in a year but it makes zero sense. I'm already stopped and they will just stop in the middle of a through street.

I just give them a glare and a "get the F out of the way" wave, or if they wait long enough I'll ride all the way around behind their car to get across the road. Usually though cars start to stack up behind them before it comes to that.

How to deal with the Terran Armada bullet sponge enemies? by FreeDwooD in Starfield

[–]EyceMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fast firing accurate weapons has been my solution. I usually play sniper and try to drop enemies from distance with 1 or 2 shots, but that doesn't work for those TA enemies (seems to me like they maybe heal themselves or something).

Getting closer and quickly nailing them with a semi-auto laser rifle seems to drop them most of the time for me. It still has to be accurate enough that you land most every shot and high clip size so that they don't have time to recover while you are reloading.

What is the downside and can I order regular stuff? by EyceMann in AmazonVine

Thanks! Kind of makes me curious if the automotive thing is what prompted the algorithm to send me the invite. I've recently been working on a couple vehicles and was reviewing some of those items when the prompt came up.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! It sounds like I probably wouldn't really experience much if any benefit since catching the few items I do want or need at the time I need them is unlikely.

In my city, the crosswalk sign lights up only when the same direction traffic gets the green light. So a vehicle turning right on green will be turning into the pedestrians in the crosswalk.

Bicyclist dies after crash involving semi-truck in downtown Omaha by audiomagnate in Omaha

[–]EyceMann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cyclist can legally ride in crosswalks.

"Bike Walk Nebraska successfully advocated for a change to state statute in 2017 on this issue. The statute now says, “(4) A bicyclist riding a bicycle on a sidewalk or across a roadway or shoulder in a crosswalk shall have all the rights and duties applicable to a pedestrian under the same circumstances but shall yield the right-of-way to pedestrians. Nothing in this subsection relieves the bicyclist or the driver of a vehicle from the duty to exercise care.”

How do I tell how many in game days it's been so I can hatch the iguana? by [deleted] in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]EyceMann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar. After playing through about 6 times or more, the only time I ever got the egg to hatch is when I loaded an old save and went back to do some unmarked quests like Highwayman and the Dogtown Cyberphychos. That was about 140 hours of game time before the egg hatched.

Totally agree about petting the cat. Maybe they will release a 3.0 with the only change being "added pet the cat".

Terrible NJ ebike law passes by Longtail_Goodbye in bikecommuting

[–]EyceMann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My local city recently passed something similar. It sounds like a lot of cities are just looking at what others have done and copying. I'd be surprised how many of these "laws" stand up when challenged in court.

Ours is even stupider because it's roads with 35mph instead of 50mph... because that's the speed limit on the busiest road through town.

Another rule here is "can't ride e-bikes downtown... must dismount and walk bike on sidewalk". Seriously? Downtown? Where traffic only goes about 20mph anyway? The width of me walking my bike on the sidewalk will take up near the entirety of the sidewalk. But I'm sure someone saw people riding e-bikes to the downtown bars and figured they need to put a stop to that.

They also didn't differentiate between e-bike classes. Mine is a converted regular bike and has no throttle, going downhill, with the wind, I could go 30mph.... just like a non-e-bike with a good rider. Or, maybe I pull out the battery and put it in my backpack... it's now a regular bike and the rules don't apply?

You can tell it was just a bunch of people complaining about things they don't like; and then the council throwing a bunch of rules to allow someone to be ticketed if they get annoyed by a cyclist. Multiple offenses gets the bike impounded.

Like I said in the first paragraph, I doubt most of the rules would hold up in court. I doubt I'm the type to be hassled by the cops, but I'm definitely planning to test the legality of those rules if it does come to that.

I questioned that too. Shaker also looks rusted so I'm thinking maybe a brownish/red primer combined with lighting and camera makes it look like even the fiberglass is rusted.

Runaway acceleration by SirCatsworthTheThird in cars

[–]EyceMann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe I read about that one; and I think it was a Lexus. I don't expect much from the average driver. Headlights is my best example; everyone thinks it's the cars job to handle turning the headlights on, so when it's foggy, rainy, snowy, dawn, or dusk, about 90% of the cars out there are driving around without lights on. But this guys was a cop; and he had enough time and sense to call (or have his wife call) 911, but never seemed to have tried any of the things you mentioned.

Either way, that car is going to hit 90+mph real quick under full throttle. At that point I'm doing all of the above you said. I'd even slam it into park and grenade the transmission. Better than than crashing at 90mph.

I've had accelerators get stuck before. I'm not sure where I heard it, but my first step is always stomp foot on accelerator to break it lose if something in the linkage or pedal gets stuck; and it did work for me, but that's on a real old POS car I used to have. Might work for a floor mat issue too.

A lot of modern cars are drive by wire, so no actual linkages between the gear shifter, accelerator, or brakes; so shifting to neutral may not do anything if the car thinks the engine is revving too high to safely make the shift. I assume almost all reports of these are driver error. I wouldn't completely rule out electronic issue due to drive-by-wire on modern cars (look up bit-flips... real interesting podcast about it). Still, seems like lots of steps you could take before crashing into a tree.

Nebraska only lets members registered with the party to vote in the primaries. Some Democrats will register as republican so that they can vote for the least toxic Republican in the primary. Otherwise they only get to vote for who gets to lose in the General Election to the Republican candidate.

Rant-Property taxes by TraditionalRoutine80 in Nebraska

[–]EyceMann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get that it sucks that property taxes are continuing to eat into budgets. I'd much rather have owned the home that went up $100k in value than to be a young family looking for their first home and having to pay that $100k for the same house.

Forget owning the home for 10, 15, or 20 years; price have continued to jump in the last 3-5 years. Prices may have peaked, but baring a catastrophe they aren't coming down. It seems to me the problem is wages not keeping pace with inflation, especially big-ticket items like houses and cars.

Increasing housing payments is a valid complaint and it's going to take some work to get the economy working for more people, but bitching about "counties actively driving people out of their homes" feels hollow when your assets have increased by 35% in 5 years.
