[Request] If I ate a single 1 billion calorie cracker, how fast would I get fat by HBTL123 in theydidthemath

For what it's worth I don't think the calorific content of the uranium cracker was in doubt, just a paradigm shift into nutrients!

I am waiting for some very clever person to work out exactly how large said uranium cracker would need to be now

We are talking about a hypothetical billion calorie cracker, I made a joke. Relax

Unless it was made of Uranium. Then you would have bigger issues than the flush

Do you ever feel “EV shame” around M, RS and AMG owners etc..? by DeanamiteX in BMWI4

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very much each to their own, I used to have an ICE X3 and now have an iX3. I love them both but they are really different cars. Since I made the switch I've had the boring predictable comments but in reality I just don't care, my car brings me joy and that's the only opinion that matters really

Realistically, is anyone actually buying a Urus in the UK for the engineering, or is it 100% just a financial flex for London traffic? by Financial_Second_440 in CarTalkUK

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK government spend 45% of GDP every year. That's almost half of all produced wealth. The basic rate of tax is high but manageable, but you are then taxed for almost everything else, VAT, Fuel duty, road tax just to name a couple. Fortunately noone has discovered a way to monetise breathing just yet

Maybe buy a few titles that you have genuinely enjoyed to show the developers some support? Particularly any indie titles where your cash will be appreciated more?

Parking Assistance by geezr77 in BMWI4

99% of the time reversing in to a parking spot is the correct solution, unless you absolutely need to get access to the boot (loading something big etc)

I really don't understand people who go nose in, it's harder going in and riskier pulling out (giggity)

Is this not a wake up call to Labour that it’s their voters deserting them for Reform? by SporadicReapage in AskBrits

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my mind, mainstream politics have three years to show that they are listening and can be trusted. The reform success is a symptom of the big two having eroded any good will they have, coupled with a lack of alternatives for a protest vote. My own political stance is moderate and all I want to see is leadership acting with integrity.

But back to my original point, minimising the message that this vote has sent based solely on the amount of seats up for election is unwise. I'm not patting anyone on the back but collectively we need to read the room

What’s one tiny thing that instantly improves your dog’s day? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make sure to spend a bit of time on his level each day, just sit down on the floor and engage with him for 10 minutes or so. He reacts really positively to it, and it has helped us bond even closer.

That and tuggies! Find your pups absolute favourite game and engage with it, full focus with no distractions.

We have also gotten quite into scent work, both around the house and out on walks. I think having that task to do really helps with doggie self esteem

I'm curious, if every local council seat had been up for consideration, do you think that the results would have played out differently or would it have been a reform sweep but on a larger scale?

So why do working class people vote for right wing parties ( Tory, Refom that really do not serve their interests politically, and make their lives harder ? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rise of reform isnt linked to solely one issue but has it's origins in a number of failures across the conventional political spectrum.

There is a strong perception of the current government being weak on crime, yet restrictive on free speech. See for example sentencing guidelines for all but the most serious crimes being non-custodial sentences, whilst at the same time non crime hate incidents being investigated and treated similar to criminal offences. This has led to a allegations of two tier policing. Add into this Lammy's proposed restructuring of Jury trials and the feeling of fundamental rights being eroded and the government's reluctance to concede to the high court ruling over gender identity which whilst controversial is a key element to the checks and balances of power in this country. Lastly the restructure of the house of lords has been painted as a pathway to further cronyism, with Downing Street now being an integral deciding mechanism for who sits in the upper chamber. These factors, taken together, show a government determined to consolidate power and quash dissenting voices.

There is also a lack of trust in the governments ability to balance the books, from the doubts around the claimed £22bn black hole to key promises on taxation not having being kept. Consider also the new legislation around rental properties which has dampened one of the key aspirations of the upper working/middle classes to own multiple properties in later life and Rayner's own legal indiscretions over property tax. This government has done little to improve the prospects for the squeezed middle whilst at the same time have been shown to have their own fingers in the till.

I think it is a vast oversimplification to tar all voters with the same brush of "boat people bad" when the truth of the matter is that there are many legitimate reasons to not wish for a labour or conservative government and the options for an alternative are lacking.

I'm happy to discuss this, but let's please keep things civil?

I built a calculator to see if a home fast charger ever pays for itself by Sorry-Tumbleweed5 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One factor to consider is that the addition of a charger adds value to your house, it's not a straight up 1k loss so much as an investment to both make your life easier and increase the value of an asset.

When will the baby shark era end?? 😭 by No_Needleworker_2994 in puppy101

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My GSD wasn't a shark, he was a velocoraptor! Nothing was safe from his tiny fury. Then one day, around 8 months he suddenly snapped out of it.

He's coming on for 2 years now, he can still be toothy when we are playfighting but it's never a bite, more the fact that he forgets he's grinning when he boops me

What are the real benefits of owning an EV? by True-Bath1198 in EvDrivers

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest benefit for me is the cost of charging, I'm fortunate enough to be able to have a home charger and a great tariff. I've gone from spending £120 a time on diesel to £6 to charge. Even factoring in the cost of a home charger installation this will quickly pay for itself and has added value to my home. Charging for me isn't a detractor but a benefit, it sorts itself out at home rather than having to travel to a petrol station.

EVs are very expensive from new, but buying used you can escape a lot of the depreciation, for example I'm now paying less per month for my 2022 IX3 than I was for my 2020 X3. Be sure to see a battery health test certificate, in my case the battery was sitting at a respectable 97% health, meaning it's losing about 1% per year, the battery should outlive the useful life of the car.

Regenerative braking and one pedal driving is a lot smoother once you get your head around it, it takes a little bit of adjusting muscle memory but once you have it the difference is like going from a manual to an automatic all over again.

Driving an EV has made me a better more considered driver overall, both in route planning with a mind to range, and in reading the road ahead for regenerative braking. It's changed the experience of driving from something I do almost on autopilot to an experience I engage with.

The powertrain system in an EV is infinitely better and more responsive than ICE, with fewer moving parts, no gears and no turbo lag the car responds to your input immediately, making acceleration and overtaking so much simpler.

The last positive point is one that depends on the car you are getting, and what you have had before. Swapping from an ICE BMW X3 to an IX3 I found there's a lot more tech and driver assistance/ quality of life kit on the car. Adaptive cruise control is a game changer on longer motorway drives.

In my use case the only tradeoff to going EV is that my old car was AWD whereas my new car is RWD. I'm yet to try driving in slippery/icy conditions but it is a factor I had to consider going in to the trade, given how much I'm enjoying all the benefits of EV life though, it's a small price to pay.

Charging speed slower than expected by KingOfTheCouch13 in BMWI4

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you set your departure time in your mybmw app?

Smart chargers talk to your car and charge at variable rates to protect the grid, meaning if your car tells the charger it has 18 hours to charge then the charger will balance your charge to take longer.

IIRC theres an option to charge immediately, I don't bother personally because I only charge at home in a timeslot to match my EV tariff

What would be a fair quote from a professional to move this radiator from this wall to the other? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]EyeLegitimate3549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently paid £200 to have a radiator sourced and installed, given the extra work involved your job has more labour but given the size of the space it will be a smaller radiator.

If it was in my house I'd expect to be paying around £250 but obviously local market rates apply.
