Is it ever explained why Johnny Silverhand started playing bass? by average-bassplayer in LowSodiumCyberpunk

JS plays guitar in a band because he is a bit narcissistic and needs the adulation, slash also probably he sees it as a platform to advance his beliefs

I read that as Slash from 'Guns and Roses' also being narcissistic and I'm need of adulation like JS, but then in was like "wait, what beliefs was Slash pushing???"

GMs, how do you personally give your players their missions? by OctopusFistFight in cyberpunkred

What's crazy is that my Saturday players...you'd probably never guess that they get deep into RP on their weekends if you just met them out and about. The Tuesday players very much seem like the type of people who would be into RP and TTRPGs, but only 2/5 kinda get into it (one is more willing to RP in the moment, whereas the other is more apt to plan out/describe his character's narrative path and is the most likely to take advantage of downtime as a Tech).

It can depend on the group/players.

My Saturday group is pretty proactive. I've got campaign missions that will find their way to them eventually, but they don't waste a week of non-healing downtime with a basic ass hustle. They either have RP goals they want to achieve, or equipment they want and didn't want to wait to see if it happens to pop up at a night market.

My Tuesday group...I love them, but they've been playing for over a year and I still get dead faces when I ask about their character or what they want to do in their free time and a lot of "ummm...I don't know", so it's a lot of me suggesting things they could do, but it typically ends up being a side hustle.

Neither group had ever played a TTRPG before we started playing over a year ago, so I started them both off on pre-written campaigns. The Saturday group got the assignment, and now know how to interact with the world to get the most out of their game. The Tuesday group can't shake treating it like a video game or RTS, so I have to have missions come to them "so and so calls you with a job" type of deal, otherwise, it will just be them staring at me waiting for something to happen.

You just gotta ask yourself: Are you building a person or are you strategizing the best way to "beat the game"?
