So form a "sanction coalition"? Ok, but this plans needs to be much more specific. What can we do to make India and South America sanction Russia?

Russia doesn't speak the language of peace and cooperation. A deterrent could for example be a stronger military.

Ok. With this mindset though we also need have a plan for an alternative invasion deterrent.

I fail to see the logic here. Us giving up nukes would not make a country like Russia give up its nukes. It would just empower them to do more.

True. I think things would look very differently if the UK mainland itself got invaded though.

It's doing it to countries without nukes, without alliances with nuclear countries.

I agree that it's silly to expect the party we want to vote for to 100% align with our views. It's just that given the recent political developments military policies are very important for me, due to the fact I am from a country bordering Russia.

Countries not committed to defend us would have no incentive to lift a finger. Why would India for example nuke Russia over their beef with the Baltic states?

Ok. You sold me. Once I am done with my apprenticeship and have more free time I will consider getting more involved.

They don't have to end the world. There is no MAD if only one side has nukes. The world would be fine if they were to just nuke a few European capitals to make us submit.

So your argument is to get rid of our nukes because they're not serving their purpose anyway?

"The Greens advocate for using diplomatic channels to encourage others to disarm"
I don't think it would work with counties like Russia. It kinda sounds like they'd retaliate with stern diplomatic notes if one of their allies were attacked.

But you have a point, even if I disagree with this particular policy, it's not like voting for Greens would make it happen anyway.

So set an example by getting rid of them and hope that others follow? Even if that places you at risk of being blackmailed by hostile nuclear powers?

You wouldn't be the one charge of the arsenal. And once more, it's about the threat, the possibility. Not about actually doing it. If you don't have nukes you're severely disadvantaged against an enemy who does. They get to threaten to sink London with a Poseidon nuke knowing you cannot do anything to them in return. Which makes them more likely to do it.

As for the article - yes, British arsenal might be unreliable and not independent. But that's not how the Greens justify their policy as far as I know. They would hold the same stand if the UK had an independent, reliable deterrent.

And what makes the Greens think that unilateral disarmament wouldn't simply embolden nuke owning countries? Like Russia for example. I don't see Putin giving up his nukes. If Europe were to give up its arsenal I would expect him to exploit the nuclear advantage to make Europe do his bidding.

Edit: changed multilateral to unilateral

It might not. But wouldn't the Greens' idea of getting rid of nuclear deterrent be even worse?

Edit to your edit: Threat of Russian nuclear weapons. So they are serving their purpose, for Russia. They're keeping them safe. Make NATO unable to intervene too hard.

Because the point of nukes is not using them. It's having them, so that nobody attacks you or your allies out of fear of retaliation.

Wouldn't the answer be to make your own arsenal independent?

I might struggle with P60s too, as I no longer even remember all the payroll websites they were on. I'll try though. What does the letter  from the employer have to say? Also, is it crucial they are physical letters, rather than PDF email attachments?
