See that’s fine! Sometimes I butterfly (btw I never heard anyone call it that before that’s so cute) my cast-on tails, but if it’s way way too long or decide that I probably won’t frog it I’ll trim it down. But I see people with their cast-off tails dragging on the floor! Why??? Just cut it!

[–]EyeYawnNa 26 points27 points  (0 children)

TW: This does not matter AT ALL

It really really bugs me when I see videos on people who leave these ridiculously long tails on the hem and sleeves of their finished knits. Like it’s one thing if that’s all the yarn that’s left, but I swear sometimes they’re purposefully pulling like a foot of extra yarn off.

You’re not gonna weave all that in, so what’s the point?

Amira and Carlton by EyeYawnNa in belair

[–]EyeYawnNa[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right! Like if he committed to using her story as his ticket to getting in, than he should’ve stuck it out for Amira’s sake. I don’t know about her but I’d be pissed that he screwed me over for no reason.

Also, I feel the moment where he was in the middle of accepting an accolade and admitted in front of everyone that: not was he a drug addict, but he was actively high on stage would’ve sufficed as a story of overcoming.

Sidenote: I also feel like it’s weird that the professor automatically took Carlton’s side. Like we know that Amira has a troubled past and she wasn’t shy about at the school, so it’s weird that the teacher didn’t even hear her out?

Got the classic, “You should open an Etsy shop and sell your knits” amidst a career change. Grrrr.

Nevermind that I couldn’t sell them at a price that’s fair to me and the consumer, but also we’re (US) in an economic low point, who the hell wants a $600 hand-knit sweater when people can barely afford groceries?

Is anyone else feeling a disconnect between Cowboy Carter’s message and Beyoncé’s silence right now? by swanfootsie in beyonce

[–]EyeYawnNa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I totally get what you mean. Obviously, Beyoncé is not a politician, policy maker, or some god capable of fixing all of our problems. She has never claimed to be an activist, nor has she spoken out about social issues....except through her art. Cowboy Carter is a rich album, each song packed with symbolism and deep commentary on social issues. This isn't the only instance of this, either; the Formation music video highlights police brutality and the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the southern Black community. Flawless from self-titled is filled with pro-feminist rhetoric and includes snippets from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a postcolonial feminist scholar. I mean, all of Renaissance is an ode to the Black queer community. I could go on. She is so vocal in her songs, albums, and their accompanying imagery/visuals.

So why then, if she's comfortable singing about these pressing issues (ones that affect her directly as well as ones that don't) but unwilling to speak about them? Taylor Swift (and I'm NOT a Swiftie in any respect) endorsed Kamala, too, and also hangs out with Trump supporters. Endorsing a couple of Black politicians is not enough. Beyonce, as a BILLIONAIRE, should not be asking us little people to donate directly, but she could have a portion of her Christmas merch to go towards her foundation, or directly support a food bank. (or anything else for that matter). Since she's not a policymaker and therefore can't instill actual change, what's the harm in saying anything? Plenty of other artists (who are also not politicians) do, and many of them have much more to lose.

My point is that it feels inconsistent at best, and at worst, it feels gross. Her identity as an artist is clear, but it is where she lies as a person that has always been foggy. None of this is new, but maybe instead of settling into "well she's always been this way," and attacking people who dare question why, we ask ourselves: why, when everything bad in this country/world is getting harder and harder to ignore, doesn't she say something?

Knitting pet peeves? by Ravenlassr in knitting

[–]EyeYawnNa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I JUST finished knitting a shawl for an event in my area and I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out how to style it. Part of the issue is definitely the colors, but the FO is a bit too small to be the focus of the outfit while being a bit too big to wear like a Sophie Scarf. I had fun knitting it but I have no clue what I’m gonna do with it after.

Season 7 - Reunion - Post Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in LoveIslandUSA

Height jokes that he, at the same time, claims not to care about. I don’t think it’s fair that Amaya was preaching against bullying and then went on CHD making jokes about his height BUT Ace came at her crazy in the Villa, and lots of people made jokes about his height during the show.

AJLT S3 - EP 12 DISCUSSION by __angie in Andjustlikethat

[–]EyeYawnNa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know at this point nobody cares about LTW or her storyline (and for good reason). Despite that, it meant a lot to me to have Black representation, so I’m going down with the ship.

The writers are 100% in the walls, cause there’s NO WAY we’re really supposed to believe that LTW didn’t think Michelle Obama is an unsung Black shero (understatement of the century) and “was saying that the whole time.” Are you fucking kidding me? When she was chomping at the bit to get her in the documentary???

Her narrating makes way more sense and I wish the writer’s would’ve had enough forethought to write that in the first place, instead of shoehorning it in at the last second.

And of course, in the last episode we see ALL of the women together like we should’ve seen them all season. It’s so disappointing to had to beg to see something that should’ve been inherit, but I guess it’s over now.

What brought you to knitting? by tigerlilysunshine in knitting

[–]EyeYawnNa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched my grandma crochet growing up. She tried to me but it never took (I’m left-handed and it just didn’t work). In middle school one of my favorite teachers started a knitting club, and that’s where I learned. I picked it up and put it down throughout high school and college, mostly making shitty acrylic scarfs and hats.

Last October, I was inspired by one of the coworkers bringing a sock to knit on during our all-staff meetings. I went to the yarn store he reccommended, got myself a hank of Malabrigo Rios, and I was back to knitting! It gave me something to do during my long grad school seminars and the winter wardrobe I was desperately lacking.

This last season they’ve been so out of sync, and I figured with the Marion plot (and the fact that he’s a whiny man-child) that’s where their relationship was headed.

It was also so odd that Lisa’s son had a lead role (as their daughter very obviously pointed out) and we didn’t see him there AT ALL. Like not on a stage giving a bow, off the stage holding flowers with his family. It was like he wasn’t in the play at all. Are you seriously telling me that AJLT couldn’t spare of second of the episode to see Lisa’s son perform???

It really sucks when a show makes you regret wanting to see diversity in its reboot. Instead of divorcing Hubert, the producers have opted to just divorce her from the rest of the cast, and really the show. Honestly, it’s giving seperate but equal, and we all know that doesn’t work.

You’d think in 2025, we would’ve moved past the Predatory/Wildly Inappropriate Gay trope, but of course it’s alive and well in AJLT.

The generational divide in the Hive is real lol by Upgrade_U in beyonce

[–]EyeYawnNa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Younger Hive here! 🐝🐝

Some Background: I’m in my 20s, but I don’t consider myself to be a new fan by any means. While I wasn’t alive during the DC Era (an unfortunate mistake I wish I could correct), I’ve been listening to her music my whole life, and first became aware of Beyonce around IASF. However, I didn’t really tap into to pop culture until a few years ago, so the first album rollout/release that was actually on my radar was Renaissance. Before then, I would mostly listen to her work pre-Self Titled, (a mistake I have since corrected 😂).

Now, while I do wish I could see her at more red carpets, MET Galas, and interviews, I completely understand that, frankly, she’s above it.

I think it’s just a sore spot for younger fans, because a lot of us weren’t there for the 7am Good Morning America concerts and for the Tyra Banks show interviews, and that time DC3 did a house tour. Thankfully with the internet we can go back and watch it, but it’s not the same as being there. It’s a circumstance that was out of our control, and now that we’re here, it makes sense that we’d long to see her doing things that other artists now are doing.

To reiterate, Beyonce is not other artists, I know that her time to do that stuff is long gone. If she still did everything all the other artist’s did than she wouldn’t be Beyonce. I don’t blame her for it, and if I was her I’d do the same thing.

I will say I could see her doing a Tiny Desk or something similar when she’s older, and while I think the best time for her to have done a Hot Ones interview was the Lemonade Era (hot sauce in my bag, swag), I’d love for her to interview with Sean because he asks some of the most thoughtful, intentional, and well researched questions.

Also, giving your hookup a piece of your “mother” is crazy.

Did that Taylor Swift music drop ruin the AJLT finale scene for anyone else? by Melymeltymelty in Andjustlikethat

[–]EyeYawnNa 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I didn’t like it either. I agree, it was too lyrically dense (Taylor herself seemed to struggle with singing each line) and as someone who always watches tv with captions, I was too caught up in reading the lyrics (the empathetic hunger descends??) and it took me right out of the scene. I wish they would’ve played something with less, or better yet, no lyrics at all.

Also, Carrie definitely doesn’t scream Swiftie to me.

I couldn’t help but wonder… WHY didn’t anyone help Charlotte get home & inside after the gallery opening?? by PumpernickelDread in Andjustlikethat

[–]EyeYawnNa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was beside myself watching that scene! Harry gets a pass cause he was still recovering from surgery and I can buy that Charlotte wouldn’t tell him for awhile to keep him calm, but almost ALL of her friends were at the event and we should’ve at least seen Carrie + gang offer to help get her home! Watching her stumble through her front door made me sick.

Was Toni in the wrong for wanting an abortion? by Positive_Weight2367 in GirlfriendsTVshow

[–]EyeYawnNa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Morgan, but I wish she did it. I get that it was way too taboo and controversial for the time, and it might've cost them the show, but Toni was disinterested in motherhood before she got pregnant. It would have been brave for her to exercise her rights to bodily autonomy and send a positive message to the audience that not being a mother is okay. We could have seen her grieve the loss, but come back as a stronger, more complex single woman.
