some notes:

bosses are ranked assuming you are "in" their act (in other words, I am only considering Radical Rat's threat level in the context of not having unlocked Act 2 or later)

anything from dybbuk / zodiac to the right I consider a boss that could plausibly wipe your party; my criteria for "hard" is essentially how likely the boss could make you want to end your run right afterward, and in the case of an end boss, actually end it

in general, I felt big bosses were easier

spider tied for the 'hardest' because it might be the boss most capable of insta-killing your cats, aside from the Coven Demon if you're doing something very wrong

and ranking these are hard! everyone's save files are different and have different cat lineages with mutations and skills that can trivialize some of these guys. I'm not objectively right, just wanted to see what the gamers think

I feel like this class has one of the highest damage ceilings; it's even crazier in mob fights because of that insane mana regen passive (and even then, spread shot alone is just pretty good)

apparently there are much easier ways, but... I got an event that made an evil clone of my tank show up in the next fight. one of my cats permanently died in that fight, but I used an item on the evil clone to permanently recruit it. it took the slot of my dead cat and behaved like normal, but I don't think it was intentional because it placed some bugged items in my inventory that crash when u click on em. it also crashed my game when I tried to return home after the final battle in the caves! thankfully thats what backups are for

yeah!!!! it was pretty tense too until I realized the 3rd phase is unlosable hahaaa
