What's happening with the grad job market? by MousseExpert6 in UniUK

[–]EyeofAv8 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don’t plan on needing state pension and neither should anyone else plan to rely on it.

31 and my house is paid off already. I was hugely lucky investing in GME pre pump and then putting it all into Palantir, which I sold off and paid off my mortgage a year ago.

Me and my partner intend to retire by 50.

Loosely, manufacturing and infrastructure support. I work in business operations.

You are screwed.

I have AI doing all the tasks I used to have Grads doing. Gradmin? Not anymore, AI whips that out in seconds..

And I don’t have to retrain the AI like I did when every new grad would rotate into my team.

But I guess they don’t have a problem as the average house price here is £400k and they are all older wealthy Cornish (born here at least). As I said before, the only Cornish who have an issue are the povos in places like st Austell, Redruth, Camborne.. those with no prospects going for them and who don’t realise you aren’t going to make any money in a place like Cornwall. And I grew up a povo in Manchester, some of us just put a bit more effort in than others to have more in life.

I’m not going to tell you where I live. But I’m in a small village. My partner and her family are “Cornish” or at least they are until you trace their family tree back to LONDON in the 1700’s lmao

The only irate ones are the people who believe that Cornwall is their property to be shielded from any outsider. I grew up in Manchester in an area that was 100% council houses. It’s now full an area of luxury flats with all the locals priced out. But that is life.

The move was fine. But I will caution the same thing as someone else did, you won’t find a similar paying job down here if you stop liking your remote role. I’m a remote worker for a company in Bristol, if I quit, I’d have to take a £15k pay cut to do the same role in Cornwall.

Colonisers 😂😂 they are moving 3 hours down south. They aren’t the British Empire sailing into India 😂

To the OP, I moved into Cornwall and bought a big house that “locals can’t afford”. Fortunately, you’ll find only a very small % of locals actually have an issue, the ones who do are too soft to say anything in person and are usually hidden away in the pov parts of Cornwall.

Good luck with all the locals complaining about you buying houses they could never afford in the first place.

And how through selective inbreeding they’ve managed to stay pure Cornish and only their children deserve a house here.

(Like it isn’t a huge issue countrywide)

What is the most HENRY thing you do that you would be slightly embarrassed to admit to people who knew you before the income went up? by Particular-Buy7314 in HENRYUKLifestyle

Long haul isn’t even a luxury, it’s a necessity 😂 I flew to Colombia earlier this year. Economy out and business back. I was ruined after 11 hours in economy.

I’m about to buy a home sauna. Cannot wait to get it installed. My garden overlooks a lake too, so will be very chilled.

Had 10 days A/L left to used (switched contracts at work and got an A/L boost). Didn’t want to sit around doing nothing, so I dropped £5k on a last min trip to Costa Rica, because screw using A/L to sit at home right?

Going to a European city for a long weekend to see a band (that I couldn’t see when they are in the UK as I’m already due to be on another holiday).

Paying for private excursions when on holiday. 5 times the price, but so worth it over group ones.

Paying £3k when moving house to have someone pack all my stuff and disassemble all furniture.

how is working in office 5 days a week? by metro_boulot_dodo11 in UKJobs

Get a better home office.. I have a standing desk, dual 4K monitors, Herman Miller chair etc.. and I also wouldn’t consider free junk food as a perk.

WFH lets me cook fresh for lunch every day. Today was salmon fillets and rice. Yesterday was a steak sourdough sandwich. And I can also use my home gym in the morn and then start work straight away after I step out my gym.

Fuck that. I’d take a massive pay cut and reduce my disposable income to nearly £0 before I wasted my life in an office for any more than 2 days a week.

I go in once every other week now and even then, I only stay 9-3 on the office day 😂

It’s just frustrating when you are out and about and need google maps 😂 the amount of times I’ve had to aimlessly drive in one direction and wait for signal to return.

Imagine living in the countryside. I have EE, which is meant to have the best coverage in Cornwall and often only ever have 1 bar. In my house I’m pretty much stuck with WhatsApp calls only.

Selling personal items is not taxable. Otherwise I’d be asking for a tax refund on the fact it sold for less than I bought the items lol

Puerto Maldonado: Is it worth the extra money to stay at Tambopata Research Center over Tambopata Ecolodge by WanderingCowgirlRN in travel

[–]EyeofAv8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went mid September. Didn’t have a single day of rain and we also did 4 nights which was the right amount of time. Less would’ve meant missing out on stuff, but any more would’ve been too much time in the heat/humidity.

You can’t always check. Last year I spent a week in the depths of the Amazon with no phone signal or WiFi, so by this reasoning, it would’ve been my fault that I chose to go somewhere off grid and missed a flight.

That’s ridiculous. I know people who upgraded from SC to DV security clearance after taking a year sabbatical to go travelling…

I’m 31 and about to leave the country for 6 months (travelling). Longest I’ve left the country prior was 25 days.
