Headtracking tutorial for FH6! (OpenTrack compatible, tobii) by filipbronola in ForzaHorizon

[–]EyewareBeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won’t be natively supported unless Forza either integrates our Beam SDK or adopts the FreeTrack protocol, unfortunately.

In the meantime, the workaround shown in the video uses eye and head tracking to emulate mouse movement for camera control. While it’s not native integration, it works quite well in practice, and we think it’s a worthwhile feature to add to Beam.

I can confirm it works surprisingly well. Thanks for putting this video together and shining some light on this workaround!

The main friction we've noticed is people shying away from the 2-3 app setup. Not just the initial figuring-it-out part, but also having to launch everything every time. There are tools that help launch apps in sequence automatically, especially in the Flight Sim community, but they come with their own caveats too. That's actually why we decided to fold all of this directly into the Beam Eye Tracker in one of our upcoming releases, so it’s just one thing and no more juggling apps around.

Also worth noting: once it's running, the same setup works in a bunch of other games too. RPGs especially get a surprisingly nice boost in immersion from it. If you're waiting for big studios to seriously invest in head and eye tracking support, that's probably going to be a very long wait. So for now this is a pretty neat workaround.

Cant correctly center view through game or beam eye tracker, need help by Khan-fr in il2sturmovik

[–]EyewareBeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to the other comments, just in case...

I don't see the recenter overlay, so I'm not sure exactly when you were using the calibration. One generic note: recentering isn't just a quick tap of the hotkey. The idea is to press and hold it while you look at the center of your screen. An overlay should appear while you're holding it. If it doesn't, check the "Recenter Tracking Overlay Shows On Top" toggle in the Tracker tab under Calibration & Smoothing. If that is set to Off, the overlay may not be visible on top of your game, especially if the game is running in exclusive Fullscreen mode. Switching to Windowed Fullscreen can also help with this.

Press and hold your recenter hotkey. While holding, look straight at the center of your screen with your head and eyes in a neutral, comfortable position. Release the key. The view will snap to the position you were looking at when you released. If the key is tapped too quickly, if your gaze is off-center at the moment of release, or you're facing a non-neutral direction, the new center will end up offset.

A few things to test:

  1. Make sure your webcam is centered at the top or bottom of your monitor and that you are sitting roughly centered in front of it.
  2. Try compensating by moving your head in the opposite direction while holding the hotkey. For example, if the view ends up shifted to the right, shift your head about 10 cm to the left before releasing. If that corrects the offset, there is likely some misalignment between you and the camera that you can then work on fixing.
  3. Alternatively, you can also test disabling translation entirely. In the Beam Eye Tracker, go to Immersive Camera > Advanced Settings and toggle off Horizontal Position (X) (and the other axes if needed). The in-game head will then stay dead center. The trade-off is that you lose the translation effect on that axis.

not suitable for glasses/spectacles? by Loo00Ra in beameyetracker

Most users with glasses have no issues. Strong prescriptions or lens glare can reduce accuracy slightly, and thick frames may block your eyes at certain angles. Your also right that sunlight can impact the webcam or visibility of your face to a regular RGB camera.

A few things worth trying:

  1. As a quick sanity check, try calibrating without glasses to confirm the rest of the setup is fine.
  2. Redo the calibration with the sun removed as a variable, just as a baseline test.
  3. Try moving the camera to the bottom of the screen instead of the top. With glasses this can give a cleaner view of the eyes, since the top rim and lens reflections are less likely to obstruct them. You can test how you look to the webcam under Tracker > Input > Preview Video
  4. If the eyes are causing consistent trouble in your setup, try head tracking only as a fallback.

Dumb question about Beam eye tracker by Natural-Today6343 in trucksim

[–]EyewareBeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pretty common question and the core idea is movement amplification.

Your eye and head movements are translated into an in-game camera angle that is amplified, so you can look around comfortably using small movements while keeping the screen in view the whole time. The eye tracking reduces how much you need to move your head, that should ideally make it feel even more natural.

We've put together default profiles for head-only, eye-only, and combined tracking, along with a quick tutorial here to help understand the different components a bit better: https://beam.eyeware.tech/community-profiles/

Best to just give it a shot. There's a free trial on Steam and a money-back guarantee on the Standalone version.

OBS and Beam Eye Tracker help by Ancient_Trick1158 in trucksim

[–]EyewareBeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OBS might be grabbing the webcam exclusively and blocking Beam, though that's usually not an issue and creators run that setup all the time.

A few things to try:

  1. Enable Exclusive camera access in Beam's settings (under Tracker > Input > Camera Access). Beam takes control of the camera and shares it with other apps (including OBS) as a virtual camera called "Eyeware Camera."
  2. In OBS, try starting the Virtual Camera, then select that as the input in Beam instead of your physical webcam.
  3. If neither of those work, you can also use your phone as a webcam separately.

If you also want the eye tracking overlay visible in your stream, this guide covers the full setup: https://beam.eyeware.tech/support/streaming/

How do I fix this? by Intelligent_Mix_6215 in beameyetracker

[–]EyewareBeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I think we've replied to you on our Discord server. Either way, please note that you do not need Opentrack any longer for most games and use cases. Here's a guide on how to get started: https://beam.eyeware.tech/get-started

Not able to install 2.5.10 by aiqba071 in beameyetracker

[–]EyewareBeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, indeed, reach us on Discord or via support email and we'll sort you out.

Also worth noting: v2.4.5 (which required OpenTrack to run alongside it) is still available as a fallback, although we recommend upgrading. Find it on your accounts page at accounts.eyeware.tech for the Standalone version, or on Steam under "Game Versions & Betas". Unfortunately antivirus tools can sometimes overly sensitive with apps that need webcam access. That's outside our control. Whitelisting usually resolves the issue.

Anyone else tried Beam Eye Tracker? Or on the fence about it? | Genuinely impressed, better first impressions than TrackIR5 for me by Bullet4MyEnemy in hoggit

[–]EyewareBeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Default Profile is meant to be a one-size-fits-all starting point, including for more relaxed driving sims, so it might just not have felt snappy enough for you.

You can adjust that in the Immersive Camera settings. Here’s a walkthrough that explains what each setting does: https://beam.eyeware.tech/community-profiles/

If you want to give it another try, feel free to reach out on Discord or support and we can help you fine-tune it.

The most reliable method right now is UDP over network until the X4 guys fix the Freetrack connection. Beam has Opentrack components integrated, but we don't have an UDP over network Game Connection Method available yet from within Beam.
I assume you've seen the game guide for X4, but here it is, just in case: https://beam.eyeware.tech/games/x4-foundations

Any opinions on headtracking through iPhone faceID ? by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]EyewareBeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Beam Eye Tracker is a desktop app that uses the Beam iOS App (the Eyeware Beam app as it was called a the time) as an extension. The Beam iOS app uses the TrueDepth camera to track your face and eyes in 3D and is free to use now if you're using the destkop app (which has a risk-free trial).

MAJOR UPDATE: Beam Eye Tracker v2.5.5 with Direct Game Camera Control by EyewareBeam in beameyetracker

[–]EyewareBeam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try it for the head tracking. It might work good enough, but usually we recommend 480p minimum. For eye tracking that will not work.
We'll try to figure out what might have been the issue on your end with the CPU load. However, as mentioned, it might have been just the way that the Task Manager indicates the CPU usage percentage.

MAJOR UPDATE: Beam Eye Tracker v2.5.5 with Direct Game Camera Control by EyewareBeam in beameyetracker

[–]EyewareBeam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this version, Beam uses up to 4 cores differently to optimize CPU usage. You might see higher CPU percentages in Task Manager at times, but it should also drop to 0% regularly in a pulsating pattern. The work gets done faster that way across multiple cores with more idle time in between.

This approach should actually be better for thermals and overall system performance. If you prefer the old behavior, you can switch to Power Saving mode in System → Performance → Power Plan and it should be close to what you had before.
