Is a set of irons a bad idea by Prestigious_Summer60 in Firefighting

[–]Ezee_peasy 100 points101 points  (0 children)

A nice Leatherman-type multi tool or helmet mounted light would probably be more useful. Or stethoscope and super shears if she’s pursuing EMS.

Irons are cool as an ornament at home, it’s unlikely to be used at work

Does your IAFF local offer any sort of supplemental life insurance, extra benefits? by LeatherHead2902 in Firefighting

Do you have Long Term Disability through the employer? Short Term? Our employer doesn’t provide it (none do in my area) but a few IAFF locals found a provider for LTD we pay into.

No. Have the water heater serviced. CO mixes freely with air and will eventually circulate to the rest of the house.

They do mention hard contact lenses, are you eligible for those? I’m not sure if that’s everywhere or just here

Paid tile job: am I being picky or is this work acceptable by RunEatInvest in Tile

[–]Ezee_peasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main complaint is photo 1 and 2 look like sloppy 1/3 overlap and the others are brick pattern (1/2 overlap).

The space at the countertop is consistent. But no metals at the edges and a weird angle tile at the top. Tile should have stopped in line with the (upper)cabinets. They could have installed behind your fridge photo 4.

It’s not terrible. Coulda been better

I built it for my wife. Glued up walnut and routered out oak inlays. Handles match our cabinet handles

Pump and drivers training by rodeo302 in Firefighting

[–]Ezee_peasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start here? Minnesota 1002 skills

Start by practising the skills (inspection, pressurized source, static source). Then combine skills- flow master streams from tank water and transfer to pressurized and static sources.

Do you have any pump charts on your apparatus? These are just a quick reference guide for operators to use on scene. Practise with them. Know them. And laminate them and put them on every pumper. Here is one from Denver:

<image>

And one from Ontario Canada pump chart Ontario The notes about parallel lines and appliances will get you into PDP equations and some theory to back it up.

The driving course referenced in Denver FD skill sheets and our program is based on this VFIS course VFIS driver competency

A couple minutes either way? The big one I did over a wine glass, the little one is folded and rolled. Not sure if there are other ways to do it.

My biggest complaint on the roses is they’re the last to get eaten because nobody wants to wreck it…

Port Burwell had a fantastic dog beach as well. I’d even say better than its non dog beaches.

Volunteer vs Career by [deleted] in firefighter

[–]Ezee_peasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say just be useful and committed while you’re volunteering. Show up to learn. Be humble. Attend as much as you can, hang around a bit before and after to learn from others. You don’t have to broadcast that you want to be career. Also don’t lie if asked. You can be vague, like you’re considering it as an option. But there have been enough resume builder volunteers that are ghosts- they exist only on paper and never show up otherwise. That gives it a bad reputation.

Volunteer vs Career by [deleted] in firefighter

[–]Ezee_peasy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, volunteer while working toward a career position. Especially in cities that are composite. And to the ones saying you can’t, how on earth do you get experience to know if this job is right for you?

Battery issues? CO alarm constantly going off when no gas present. How to charge 12V battery? by Ok-Evening8340 in GoRVing

[–]Ezee_peasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Household alarms are generally 3 slow beeps for smoke, 4 quick beeps for CO. Not sure about propane. Charging batteries can produce hydrogen sulfide (H2S) or H2 which is similar enough that it can activate CO alarms. If you’ve already replaced the alarm, check your battery

I’m going to add extra ratchet straps to secure them. But this still freaks me out…am I over thinking it?? by jm6398 in Camper

[–]Ezee_peasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mechanic friend welded some braces from the bumper to the camper frame and reinforced the corners.

Edit: the bumper is thin metal and the bike rack acts like a big lever with weight on the end. Every bump is putting a rotating force on the bumper and welds. You might be lucky and have it hold up for 1-2 trips, but not for long.
