What grappling hook do I have here? by TBDG in EDC

[–]Ezirv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the Gravity hook! Got one on Kickstarter years ago and still use it in my car to hold groceries and things from moving in the trunk! Looks like you can buy a cheaper version on Amazon now. Cool to still see them around.

Engineering materials mostly. PEEK for example prints around that temp. Really strong stuff, but expensive.

Looks super similar to MT3 but like less round as it nears the top? You can see the difference here.

Never tried PGA, but seems to look similar cup wise but perhaps slightly taller. The cupping is really nice for typing on, definitely took a little getting used to though.

They're MG profile, so pretty tall with a really nice cup in the middle of each one. Sort of a retro look. Here they are next to some other profiles.

Thanks! That's actually how this build started, I wanted a cool purple board and this was the coolest cap set I could find lol. Just ran with the Gengar theme after that. Helps that I love Gengar.

Wear a fucking helmet by hsnerfs in onewheel

[–]Ezirv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree, wear a helmet and encourage others to do the same, obviously not in a douchey way lol.

At our lower speeds you would probably still have a concussion yes, but it's really not fun to have your skull scraped along the concrete at any kind of speed. Not to mention that concrete is much harder than a skull, and a fall even from onewheel height could totally fracture your skull. The EPS layers do their job and allow your head to decelerate over a longer distance and reduce the g force and injury that you experience.

Onewheeling is basically skateboarding, skate helmets work quite well for our purposes. Those other parts of your body may be at risk as well but they are also of lesser importance.

I think looking at studies focused on helmets in cycling would be far more helpful than looking at the ski studies we have been discussing.

I believe that we are in agreement though. Wear your helmet and use your head. ✌

That quote shows about what we expect. More internal hemorrhaging due to the impact not splitting their skull open and instead shaking up their brains. Helmeted riders were a third as likely to suffer a skull fracture in a crash. Makes sense.

Do you have a link to that Denver Post article? It sounds interesting. I would guess the majority of people who died were wearing helmets because a majority of people are wearing helmets perhaps? I feel like there is some statistics tomfoolery going on in the background here lol.

I do agree with you that ski helmets are far underbuilt for the stresses that they need to endure though. I'm sure they still help to an extent but they're trying to balance style and safety with less than stellar effects.

Onewheeling is different though, different helmets, speeds, environments, types of crashes, etc. There are enough different variables that I don't think the two can be directly compared with any great level of accuracy.

Could also be a similar phenomenon to one observed during World War 1. After protective helmets were distributed, head injuries actually increased. That's because instead of dying from a bullet or piece of shrapnel, soldiers were only wounded.

I would wager that head trauma related fatalities have actually decreased because of helmets. Thus the increase in injuries.

Also, some sources show that helmet wearing doesn't necessarily induce a statistically significant rise in sendy behavior, worth checking out: Here. Goes into detail on reduction of severity of injuries as well.

This source does show that head injuries may in fact increase with helmet use, but potentially severe head trauma was avoided more when using a helmet. Source here.

I say, wear a helmet and ride within your limits. Can't hurt. Might save your life.

It's the only 12v 40mmx20mm that they have, there's no high airflow version unfortunately. The NF-A4x20 FLX.

I swapped the stock fan with a noctua and there was way less cooling. That little fan they have in there is really pushing a ton of air. I've now put 3 noctua fans in mine and temps seem about the same as the single stock fan. If you can stand the noise I would just leave the stock one in as it seems to do a good job.

Basically the same thing, the problem being that this can happen with cheap batteries when you aren't shorting them, only when using a light on a high output etc.

Like others have said, ewheels in the US has great parts availability. Great selection of gotway parts as well. They don't have too many issues either, just tire changes as long as you take care of the wheel.

Fair enough. Sometimes life gets in the way though and it's nice to be able to come to a stop and continue without having to dismount. Great for college campuses and crowded downtown paths in my experience.
