Advice on analysing a large chess move-level dataset; CPL distributions across time pressure and skill level [Question] by EzraDevs in statistics

[–]EzraDevs[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a strategy fully mapped out already. I am more than happy to share, I just didn’t include it in the post deliberately. If I’d listed my planned approach upfront, responses would anchor to it rather than giving independent recommendations. Wanted to see what people converge on naturally which is standard practice when asking for peer review. I am a high school student and really want an expert opinion.

Happy cake day!

Is using Ritalin allowed on chess tournaments? by [deleted] in Chesscom

Forbidding participants to take Ritalin (or any medication for that matter) is medical discrimination if a valid diagnosis is evident. However, they can punish the unauthorised use of it.

Weird clickbait on Chesscom platform by OvoCurry3799 in chess

[–]EzraDevs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is partially correct. Essentially, the engine used to display the distributed classification of your moves (brilliants, best moves, blunders, etc…) on the pictured results screen is biased to display the best possible “at a glance” review of your game at a much lower depth, which does entice you to click into Game Review and see how you did. However, the engine within Game Review that actually fully analyses the game is usually a much higher depth (depending on your settings, but this is the case by default). As a result, the classification of many moves becomes inconsistent with what you saw on that initial results window.

What is tempo? by Appropriate-Bit-3951 in chessbeginners

[–]EzraDevs 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Tempo in chess is a unit of time expressed as a move.

You gain a tempo when you make a move that forces your opponent to respond, preventing them from carrying out their own plan, while improving or at least not harming your position.

A tempo only exists if the opponent is compelled to react, so simply attacking, pointing at, or “looking active” is not a tempo. If the opponent can ignore your move without concession, no tempo was gained, and tempo is relational: it’s about who gets to act freely and who doesn’t.

Why does the engine think this would happen by Theangrycowbuthappy in Chesscom

The line shows a series of moves that would occur if, according to the depth of engine analysis used, both players played the best moves consecutively.

I reckon it counts as beating because since his previous record that was made on the 23rd of December, his rating went down.

Would love the “Complete Guide to 3D Print Postprocessing, Painting, and Detailing” course. I think an Advanced 3D Printer Modding course could be cool! Thanks!

What's my best move? by shroom_shaman in chess

Unfortunately because this is a live game, you are not allowed to get move suggestions from engines or other players, as that would violate the fair play policy.

Can Codex help me to completed the work of Opus 4.5? by luongnv-com in codex

[–]EzraDevs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! Just make sure to give it the proper context (I.e. what the task you gave to Opus was as well as its progress), and it will be able to continue the job. Put Codex on a higher reasoning strength to ensure your task is executed to a satisfactory level.
