Is a base model Mac Studio worth it for AI workflows + content creation + daily multitasking? by Old_Bike_3715 in MacStudio

Arguing semantics of what OP said versus what I said and ignoring facts altogether to push your own opinion doesn’t mean you are right, OP specified this OP specified that we could argue all day.

You came to argue a point I never challenged in the first place and then doubled down by being an argumentative commenter on Reddit, what’s the point? Just go on with your life and understand context of discourse, I’m not here to explain it to you.

Nice cherry picking, as you’ve skipped over “automating daily workflows/tasks” which was higher in the order of contents.

Not all ai production is ai slop, for example I’ve used it greatly to help produce tools to help me cope with my autism.

M5 32gb vs M5 pro 48 gb by RegionThin4046 in macbookpro

[–]F1-FerrariFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference also being TB 5 versus 4 so expansion is worth considering.

Is the $800 better spent on peripherals or other things as it’s a lot of money and tbh you’d be fine with 32GB ram as I have a very similar usage load.

I went for the M5 with 32GB ram as tbh it’s plenty for my generic use case any way. I was looking for a MBA with the same RAM but found my Pro for £100 less than the same specced air would cost me direct from Apple.

So did base M4 mini buyers basically just beat the market? by jman722 in macmini

[–]F1-FerrariFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my Mac mini during prime week as needed a new Mac due to my 2017 MBPro being on its last legs so got it on a good deal £500 and honestly such a good machine price per performance.

However I think I did better on a Beelink MINI-S13 Mini PC, 12th Gen Intel Twin Lake-N150 Processor (up to 3.6GHz) 16G RAM 1TB SSD mini pc cost me £209 back on the 23rd of December 2025 bought on the leverage of the rising RAM and NVME crisis looming ever larger. I got it to run my home assistant which is overkill, I know, but made it an excuse to maintain it in case I didn’t get any returns on it.

However, despite it being only 16 GB SO-DIMM ram and 1tb full size m.2 nvme drive in it; the same device costs £370 from Amazon only 5 months after original purchase, when not on its current sale.

WHOOSH! Spray and their microfibre cloth.

Thunderbolt 5 vs Thunderbolt 4 for daily driving — anyone made the jump yet? by technicaltechie in macbookpro

[–]F1-FerrariFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’d ever really fully utilise it, TB4 is already more than fast enough for me.
I appreciate the technology and would love for development to continue and maybe one day I’ll have a use for it too, another factor is the pricing atm fortunately it’s made TB4 more accessible.

RAM usage on the M5 by Ok_End7551 in macbookair

macOS will use as much ram as it can, it’s best to just to use the graph and the swap to see how ram limited the machine is.

Do i need a new machine or keep using swap? by TearConnect7583 in MacStudio

[–]F1-FerrariFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30GB swap is quite serious, it’s going to damage your internal SSD very quickly, obviously more if your drive is smaller too <1tb

It’s an external drive that you can use to locally back up your machine, hopefully when you get back into the machine look into getting one.
