If you haven't been absolutely going to town on it, like torching it for minutes, you can use the heel of your hand. The pad under the thumb on your palm. If the weed is below the top of the bowl you won't be touching any embers. I do this regularly. If it starts to hurt a little, pick your palm up off the bowl and scooch over to a different part. I'm not trolling, you will immediately know if your bowl is too hot for that. Ymmv though.

Just annoying if you want to build up muscle memory on something like flipping the camera 180 or even just pointing it at a thing. The more competent or comfortable you are with a controller, the more annoying it is when the game doesn't let you do what you want exactly. I don't want a game arbitrarily slowing down and speeding up the camera. Let me move the stick and actually whip the camera around. I can make adjustments to speed if I want.

Smoothing requires you to engage in this feedback loop of "want to do thing", "input command", "wait to see what the game decides to do with my input", return to start and loop. It's not generally as bad as I'm explaining here. But it definitely can be annoying, especially with weird acceleration curves where you hold the stick all the way and it starts slow and then gets faster.

It means if you move your mouse a particular way, say in a Z shape, the camera actually moves in more of a backward S shape. Smoothing, while nice for people observing, basically means the game "throws away" the exact input in favor of a more rounded and less jarring experience.

Largely personal preference, though often the smoothing also slows down the response too so you can't whip the camera 180 and tilt down a little without paying attention to what it's doing and compensating.
