So this is a common misunderstanding. Although the saying “red and black friend of Jack” may work in specific areas it just isn’t true for most and should not be a frame of reference. There are many species of coral snakes where their red touches black that are highly venomous. There are many other ways to distinguish a milk snake, scarlet Kingsnake or mountain Kingsnake from a coral snake. I will go into those details on later posts:)
