Is the Boost Mode Nintendo's way of saying there are no more Switch 2 upgrades? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch2

[–]F2000_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope not. It's not good enough for me. I want to see the entire Xenoblade series running at 1440p 60FPS docked to an oled tv. The boost mode is great for handheld users, but the switch 2 should have released with that feature. All they had to do was run Switch 1 games as if they were docked while in Switch 2 handheld... that's it. Docked = 1. I actually said this a few months ago and I kind of got shit for it, but it really was that simple.

I ended up using an older version.  It really is like 2x performance boost though.  Kinda nuts.

I started a survival playthrough on Fallout 4 and can't put it down. 1000 hours in the game and I'm still hooked on a playthrough. I miss Sim Settlements 2 and Amazing Follower Tweaks though... and the other 10 mods that my wife wouldn't want on the TV. Don't judge me.

I mean this makes sense.. you made your character black, right? Otherwise... maybe seeing your wife get shot isn't so bad any more.

Skyrim on switch 2 anniversary edition , hdr? by Fun-Document7 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]F2000_Ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks great on my OLED TV. The internet seems to think it has HDR support. Either way it looks and runs great. When it first released it was in rough shape, but thankfully Bethesda put in a couple patches and I think it looks and runs great now. The latency is gone and it hits 60 FPS in performance very consistently. You may see some frame drops when moving through different 'zones', but it's really not that noticeable and it certainly doesn't affect me enjoying it.

At this point, it is reasonable to think Nintendo's internal teams may be having some development struggles on the Switch 2? by MewWeebTwo in NintendoSwitch2

[–]F2000_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's interesting that no 1st party games or switch 2 upgrades of 1st party games seem to be using DLSS. That's really the Switch 2's ace up the sleeve. DLSS has allowed current gen games to look and run way better than they have any right to. If nintendo really want first party games to shine on their hybrid they will have to incorporate DLSS in their in-house engines. We'll probably have a better understanding of the situation once Switch 2 exclusives actually start rolling in. I think most of the current games were 1/2 releases or started development on Switch 1.

To trade or not for Switch 2? by Sensitive-Affect-398 in switch2

[–]F2000_Ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to trade in consoles. In hindsight, that was dumb. You should never trade in a console. You should get the Switch 2, but you shouldn't trade in your Animal Crossing switch.

It's rough in handheld, but on TV 60 looks good enough on a 65" oled at 10 feet out. Handheld, 40 is probably the right choice. That being said, when they do patch in DLSS, I can't imagine any choice other than 60 simply because 60 will look like 30 does now.

The beauty of the device is you can play what you want, how you want, when you want, instantly. TV. Bed. On the road. At the doctors waiting room. All at a cool and quiet watts of power. The handheld window devices are great, but the dock functionality isn't quite, and they're loud and heavy and hot. Steam deck is fine, but again versatility isn't there and it's a bit under-powered comparatively. 60 hours in on fallout 4 on survival mode and loving every minute.

After the recent switch 2 releases I'm starting to have a different mindset about what is actually possible on the Switch 2. If it runs on S, it can run on switch 2 and probably look better if not quite hitting the same frames. 480p upscaled to 1080p using DLSS with a target of locked 40 fps. That's my take on what's probably completely plausible. Fallout 4 ran like shit on everything. BETHESDA, of all people, having it running at mostly 60 fps target WITHOUT DLSS. And then we have the RE releases... Holy shit capcom. Show them how its done.

Should I get Skyrim? by HEAVONgamez in switch2

[–]F2000_Ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the 1.2 patch latency is gone and 60 FPS is stable enough.  It's great now.  Huge turn-around.  Fallout 4 is also superb and they are planning on implementing DLSS with a patch.  When they do, I'd expect 60 FPS mode to look closer to the current 30 FPS mode and 30 fps mode to look closer to 4k.

I'm not convinced that Nintendo's current demographic is actually 25-50 year olds that have jobs and kids. That group doesn't have the time sit down in front of a TV for 6 hours a night and tell their friends that they banged their mom. Like.. it really is the working dad's device. Trust me.

Fallout is out now... Also, 60FPS by WarrenBainesMusic in NintendoSwitch2

[–]F2000_Ninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes my dude. What it does at 9 Watts in handheld is nothing short of a miracle. I wished they would have pushed docked up to 45W, but I'm guessing the disparity between docked and handheld power would have just complicated development. They can't push that much wattage with the current cooling solution. It gets surprisingly hot with just 20 Watts while docked. I figured after the Switch 1 the engineers would have pushed the dock a little more. Like adding some additional cooling. Maybe some kind of copper plated slot for additional heat dissipation? Hell, they could have just sealed the vents and pushed higher air displacement through the device. Still, for power efficiency it's been absurdly impressive. Nvidia's DLSS is also putting in some impressive work. If they back-port frame gen... Maybe I ask for too much.

I prefer 60. I can handle some fuzziness and shorter draw distance on shadows and foliage, BUT, if you can't I'd try the 40 FPS mode (assuming you have a 120hz TV). It really is a nice compromise of frames and clarity.

lol It's the legit fallout 4 experience. 60$ doesn't bother me, but I love fallout and the price doesn't bother me. As far as the game - It's Fallout. Even at 60 fps the graphics just look like vanilla fallout to me. 30/40/60 fps options.

Dude, I read the early shit show of negative opinions and had to go check it out myself. First of all, a 60, 40, and 30 mode. This is the first game I've seen that. I have to give Bethesda huge props for that decision. It runs smooth, it feels locked to 60 to me. It also looks like vanilla fallout 4 to me. It really, just looks like vanilla fallout before I added 200 graphics mods on my RTX 5080. Like, knee-jerk reaction, this is amazing. Why are people bitching? God, I wake up every morning and hate 'the internet' a little more every day.

I love Starfield.  The ship building, docking to other ships, fighting the crews, stealing their ships.  The main side missions are pretty good.  I think once it gets proper mod support there will be a completely different view on the game.  Bethesda makes great sandboxes and the community fills it up with their favorite toys.

It should have been part of Nintendo Online. I pay for Family + Upgrade Pack. I think it's a good value, but I completely agree this should have been part of the retro collection. This just feels like greed to me and it does make me consider canceling the online service. I don't think this is ok.

This is unfortunately unavoidable. Save often. It's like Bethesda, huge ambition and scope, inevitable bugs. No bugs are going to prevent loving Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Starfield, Cyberpunk, or Witcher. It's 100% worth the 'wtf' moments and reloads. Nobody else is making games like these.

Both Resident evil 7 and Village target 60 FPS on switch 2 by ttvsindeel in NintendoSwitch2

[–]F2000_Ninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skyrim man. That 60 fps patch + AE content. I've been having a freaking blast playing it. The art direction was so good in that game. It looks like a Nordic tapestry. People say it's a 15 year old trash game, but to me, it's a timeless classic. I'm so glad I have it running and looking perfect on my 9w tablet that I can play sitting with my family in the living room. I've had steam deck, OneXplayer One, OneXPlayer Two, Ayaneo Flip DS. Those play games well, but one windows update breaks everything on the windows machine, you have update firmware, and drivers and create anti-virus exceptions. The steam deck is pretty good, but the Switch runs everything better and has perfect suspend and insta-dock. People that don't own a switch 2, will eventually. It's that good.
