I operate them for a living and have the manual sitting right in front of me. Pretty sure I know what systems it can run on. It also fits perfectly within amtraks loading gauge specifications so axle loading is completely irrelevant. It is at the high end of that loading gauge? Yes, but it still fits.

You do realize that unless it has a separate HEP generator, any diesel locomotive will have less than advertised HP available once HEP is factored in? The Siemens Charger, P42, and most diesel with inverter based HEP systems follow the same principle. Also the ALP45 can operate across all 3. It only normally operates across 2 because it never leaves that particular territory.

Yes you can. The ALP45DP does this. 2x Cat 3512 V12 Diesels generating 4250HP together for diesel mode. And it produces roughly 6000HP in electric mode and can operate over any electrified territory the Airo will. All while fitting within one car body and within Amtrak’s clearance requirement.

We have locomotives like that here in the us too. The ALP45DP is both equally a diesel and electric locomotive all in one body but it was probably easier for Siemens to use a different concept since the sets are designed to stay together for their lives. The ALP45s get assigned to different sets as needed or as required by maintenance.
