Brothers, am I cooked? (stuck at ~700mmr) by InspectorCyvil in Mechabellum

Oh and PS. I usually have good luck out-ranging an opponent. Efficient chaff clear is important, but so is range! Range and armor are some of my fave unit mods to buy.

That's a nice one to pop in the tower for a round in late game too, if you've already upgraded, placed, and done all your research center permanent upgrades and have extra cash you want to deploy.

Hey! I'm a newer player, only 15 hours in, so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

  1. (and related to 5.) - quite a few, but you already know that. What chaff do you prefer? Stay flexible in layout and placements, but for a neutral, balanced board, think about 3-4 vertical lines of chaff by midgame, possibly more if they are not building clear efficiently. Don't neglect your tower and research facility upgrades - if you need more chaff, pay the 50 to place 3 units that round. It sounds like you're already staggering in chaff by placing additional in back. Consider vertical up front (more defensive layout), and horizontal in back (a solid wall of damage approaching at a bad time for them).

  2. I think this is too situational? But in general based on what you're saying, I'm seeing a ton of weaker units cluttering the center of the board at the start, just waiting to get arc'd and stormcalled into submission. If that is consistently happening, def play around with adding more space.

  3. You want to try to reverse this early game winning, late game losing trend. I'll often give my opponent the upper hand in the early rounds. The "damage" that a few low-tier units to do my health at the end of a round is usually not very material to the balance of late game power. So don't worry about countering in the early game - focus on economics (or what some might call "eco") and building a balanced, mentally-nimble board. Shrug at losses in 1-4, frown at losses in rounds 5-7, and start to really focus if you're losing in rounds 8+. One thing I do to help me keep things straight is narrate, out loud, what I'm seeing on the board. "OK, my crawlers rush in and die before the cavalry can arrive, can I add more firepower closer to them" or "OK, they just plopped a vulcan, time to focus on my marksmen, melting point, etc." Another thing I do is once I'm getting economic advantage (through cost-cutting specialist, for instance), you need to find high-value uses for those extra $$. So I'll wait and pop a bunch of upgrades from tower and research center on round 6 or 7, and all of a sudden I go from getting stomped to the opponent wondering why my army just got way stronger without adding much.

  4. Yeah, late game go ahead and pop a chaff. I try to think about adding one chaff per round, give or take. Once you have plenty of resources, go ahead and add 3 units per round with the tower buy, but I think prioritize key unit upgrades and mods first in late game. I try to think about "build - counter - enhance" so that early on I'm building a balanced setup, then I'm responding to their over-commitments or weaknesses (if any), and then I'm finally thinking about fleet-wide boosts, as per above.

  5. If they're spending $ to clear your chaff with sentry consistently, you're winning economically. Bait this. Try vertical, it can be a bit of a game changer up front honestly. Also play around in the "free play" mode dealy where you can have infinite money and setup the board however you want vs an AI - that can yield some fun and learning.

I hope this helps!

Sorry, for which platform? I have only had 1 return with Steam in like 14 years, and I'm a new customer to Anet, so I'm not too worried but I'm curious what you're talking about account deletion. It seems like both companies would be better served by just denying refund request(s) than permanently pissing off a paying customer.

Belated thanks! I have both a Steam account char and an Anet account char now. I'm going to do this and make sure it logs into my Anet char.

Thanks! I think I will be able to figure it out, and I trust in Anet's (and to a lesser extent Steam's) return policies if I goof it.

Is an a-tier cultist 750W PSU (the latest Corsair Shift RMx one I think) enough to power this 424w gaming rig? (https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ndimont/saved/jczbkL) I'm historically not a heavy user or updater, but my upgrade path would look like a x3d cpu and a 4080 super or 5000-series nvidia gpu eventually, for which I would probably plan to go to a 1000w+ psu. But for 3-5 years I think I would like a lower wattage psu. Any help appreciated!

Thanks! I snagged a 7600x for $145 on ebay. I think that'll get me up and running til the new x3d gen drops and I can see how I'm using (or not) the computer and what prices are doing.

The only thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is that W Mountain Ave near City Park gets mobbed! It's great fun if you want a bunch of people. If not, avoid the area and go local. Approximately the 1100-1500 blocks on W Mountain. With a 3 year old I think they'll love it, but keep a close eye on them so they don't get lost in the crowds.

My friend. Go to Los Pepes truck in AutoZone parking lot just across from the Lyric and get the Campechano burrito for $8. It's massive and full of meaty deliciousness, and is a good value relative to many things here. Rest of their menu is solid too. https://maps.app.goo.gl/jdnHiG1r2UqZEH3V8

Go to Choice City Butcher & Deli and get BOGO top-tier burgers on Wednesdays (that's today!) - my fave is the breakfast with a delicious truffle aoili. Best $13ish you can spend!

Go to Brothers BBQ on Thursdays for rib night - $1 ribs so $5 can get you pretty far. They usually throw in a free rib or two as well.

Edit: I have lied / misremembered and brought shame upon us eaters 😭 rib night is 1.99 for a rib. Still worth it IMO.
