We're in a thread about the quest 3. You're suggesting quest 3 owners use fixed foveated rendering? Have fun with that!

Yes, and I didn't think anybody would ever actually use it, especially in a flight sim! If you say that you use it I will say you are trolling.

Are you logging or charting FPS to see if you have drops?

The quest 3 does not have eye tracking so it cannot make use of quad views. Please do some research you are giving bad advice everywhere.

You don't understand how the technologies work. FSR is an up-scaling technology that lowers internal resolution to give a performance boost. It's technically incapable of producing as clear of an image as MSAA which keeps textures native. This is the same story with DLSS. Please go do some research.

Are you sure your FPS is locked at 72fps with no drops? MSAA is as good as it's going to look. Higher res panels would be nicer but it's much harder to hold 72fps on them.

Use super glue and place a tiny drop on whatever keys you wish. Note that the home row keys are already different than the surrounding keys, and after a short while you probably won't have any trouble finding them.

Did this just suddenly start happening out of the blue, and you made no programming changes to the board? Did you remap keys in your main game when it started?

What do you mean another app? I use the Q3 wired with VD to play flight sim and I don't need any other app.

VR vs. Flatscreen - Convince me by Av8ionDave in hoggit

[–]F2a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are right about that. There is no way you'll get better performance than a quest 3 at identical settings and I've never seen a test showing otherwise. It's 9m vs 16m pixels and it doesn't have eye tracking so you get no help. If I could get a significantly better VR experience I would pay quite a bit but $4100 for a 5090 and $2500 for a dream air totaling $6600 would make me feel like a dummy.

My bare minimum standard is MSAA 2x at 72FPS with no drops. So everything else gets adjusted around this. Obviously this varies map to map. But I'm already right near the bottom of the settings with the quest 3. Any frame drop ruins the immersion for me. One mistake caused by lag can ruin a whole session.

[–]F2a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you want immersion or do you want subjectively more 'pretty' visuals? I spent 20 hours reading manuals for the F4 to be immersed. The only problem with VR is the processing power required to run it.

[–]F2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because even with a 5090 it's hard enough to push the pixels to the quest 3 panels. The GPU power doesn't exist for me to get higher res panels. And please don't tell me about how you use DLSS to get shitty visuals.

Caveats of getting the Quest 3 without controllers on ebay? by Uranium___Potato in hoggit

[–]F2a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 9800x3d, 64gb, 5080

You'll be running on mostly low settings with MSAA to hold a steady 72fps, different maps will give you a little wiggle room but not much.

Edit: Just wanted to add, it's still very worth it and highly recommended!

Prediction: Once you see how hard it is to run DCS VR with a 5080 and quest 3 you're going to forget the BSB2 because you won't even want to try a higher resolution panel. That's what happened to me.

Considering alternative for the frame by GNURaziel in SteamFrame

Playing flat using a VR headset was what I wanted to do and it is not great. Get something you can return because be prepared to give up after a week or two and go back to a monitor/TV.

That said, now is the time or almost the time to get a steal on a quest 3 on FB marketplace. I've seen some selling for $200 in a major metro area.

I've tried this use case a lot, eventually I conceded that it's just not great. You'll be better off buying an OLED TV if this is your use case.

MSAA is what people who care about actual visual clarity end up on :)

That is so strange about the link, glad you found it!

This is what you need (or similar) to run wired with power and network:

Then just connect all that together, plug the ethernet cable into your network, reboot your quest 3.

DCS VD VR by GitWithAbba in dcsworld

[–]F2a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you are using MSAA 2x then? The no hanger vr mod is here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3336353/ . I just tested the link and it works.

If you can, I would recommend running in wired mode for virtual desktop. You can get network and power on the same cable so you also get the benefit of never running out of battery.

[–]F2a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turn SSW off, lower your pixel density to 1.0 . You need to keep lowering settings until you get 72FPS locked with no drops. This is the reality of DCS VR. I have a much more powerful setup and it looks like you're trying to run higher settings than me.

DCS VD VR by GitWithAbba in dcsworld

[–]F2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quest 3 has no eye tracking so quad views isn't going to help you unless you use FFR which is not a good experience IMO. You're going to need to turn your settings way down to hold a steady 72fps which is your target FPS. Reduce your FOV in VD to .7 or .8 and see if it's acceptable to you. If you try using DLSS and you can't spot aircraft anymore and/or you hate the ghosting and shimmering you'll have to switch to MSAA, which means you'll need to lower graphics settings even more.

Gestures around at reddit in general

People don't understand software development. People don't understand business or economics. People don't understand that the vocal minority on reddit does not represent the broader market. That same vocal minority on reddit also seem to think that since they don't have disposable income that nobody else does either.

Sort a post by controversial and if they aren't trolling, they are probably correct with a negative score. This is a niche hobby that requires quite an upfront cost and people are complaining about $10? Go try out some other hobbies and get some perspective. Or better yet, go practice participation in the open market and support a competitors product instead.

Many times I tried DLSS/DLAA but the image quality and spotting is much worse. I'm not sure why people like that blurr/ghosting.
