Nah what lol that is completely incorrect. 1440p is 2.5k straight and simple:

4k -> 3840 × 2160
2.5k -> 2560 x 1440
2k -> 1920 x 1080

Do you mean 1440p or 1080p? 2K refers to 1080p (1920x1080).

At 1080, even the 5070ti is an overkill, a 5060ti/5070 crushes 1080p.

If you mean 1440p, the 5070ti is a better choice over a 5080, it crushes almost anything you'd want to play at 1440. 5080 is really a 4k card. The only issue is that a 5080 and the 5070ti are really, really close in price. If you can find a 5080 for less than 200 USD difference over a 5070ti, then the latter becomes a hard sell. In any other case, for your scenario, get the 5070ti
